As a sourdough novice, I had none of the “tools”. I have serviceable alternatives in my kitchen, but the bowls I used for proofing didn’t seem to work very well - though that could be my lack of experience. I ordered this kit as an investment toward my success. I was worried about how light the bowl seemed, but it was strong enough to hold the dough without breaking. The removable liner comes on and off easily but stays put when holding the dough. It washes easily - I hung it up to dry. It doesn’t keep the flour completely from falling through to the bowl, so I did need to gently brush the bowl a little, rinsed it, and air dries it thoroughly. The mixer has a comfortable weight to it, as well as the dough cutter. Both seem pretty well made. The lame needs to have the blade put on it, and though it’s sharp, it took more effort than I expected to score the dough. In all, I’m happy with my purchase. It’s good for a starter set.

After using this kit, my sourdough game has gone from zero to “who wants fresh bread this weekend?” in just a few tries. If you’re on the fence, this kit makes it easy to get started.
