My son chose percussion for grade 4 band. After searching all the sets, we found this to be the best-rated and were familiar with the Pearl brand. It's impeccably packed and very well-organized. The sticks are adequate but basic so we upgraded those by choice not by necessity. The set works fine as is. There is only one base for the stands which is the only way this set fails in comparison to others, but he's only using one instrument at a time in lessons, so for him it doesn't matter. At home we set the xylophone out on a table so he has access to both all the time. Great quality.

This kit was purchased to replace the one that we had been renting. This one is better, hands down. This kit has the notes engraved on the bells, which is a huge help to a child learning to play. The kit we were renting did not have this, and we have found it made a huge difference for our child. Also the kit comes with a drum pad, which is pretty important if you want some peace and quiet, like ever.She can easily assemble/disassemble the unit with no problems. The only downside is that it's a little heavy and I have to help her lift it in and out of the car. But, she's 10, so that's expected. Overall, we are thrilled with this kit and would buy it again.

This set was the exact one offered by music company for 5th grade beginner band and was a much better value. Our school doesn’t recommend buying outside of what is recommended through contracted music company but I called them and got the model number they had and this is the exact one. Quality is good and saved on it compared to the rental fees or purchasing through music company the school uses. So far has been exactly what is needed for my beginning drummer/percussionist and great value!

This is my sons first year in band. He wanted to do percussion. Looking at stores in the area that rent music equipment I was shocked at the prices. This was a no brainer why rent when we could buy. Looking around we decided on this Pearl set.

We only had the set since June, and only used sparingly by an 8 year old. The drum stick tip snapped? Really? Isn't the idea that the drum sticks are solid enough to use on a drum pad and a snare? Does anyone know how to contact Pearl to make a complaint?Update: Sent Pearl a picture of the broken drum stick, and they sent a new set out! Thanks Pearl! Changing to 4 stars. Sticks are not too expensive, and the kits include good instruments, so I don't know why they don't just include really good sticks to begin with. Why even make sub-par sticks? Hurts their brand. The sticks are the lowest cost item in a kit. Not worth risking customer dissatisfaction over something that is low margin to begin with.

We purchased this kit as a replacement to the expensive monthly rental kit we had received for my daughter's 5th grade band. This kit is perfect! It is the exact same kit we had been renting, and we were able to purchase it for much less than if we had bought out the rental agreement or just kept renting it. The only thing my daughter had to do was put a piece of duct tape on the snare drum to get the right tone (Google it - it's a thing :)). I would definitely recommend this kit for budding percussionists!

Can’t really comment on value because I didn’t do a lot of research with other options. This kit packs up nicely in the included rolling carry case. It is easy to set up and take down. It has sustained daily use without any signs of wear. Extremely happy that we chose the Pearl brand.

My daughter loves this set. Perfect for beginners and great value for the money. I could rent the drum from school but I would end up paying twice the price. I highly recommend this drum set.
