Great battery life
I'm an occasional (one or two trips per year) single-gas recreational diver, and I wanted an all-purpose activity, health and sleep tracking watch that could also serve as a solid backup dive computer. I was coming from an Apple watch that needed charging at least every 24 hours, which finally got too annoying. I'm 10 days in with this G1 now and am loving it so far. I haven't plugged this watch in since bringing it to a full charge after unboxing it, and it's still telling me I have six days, or 25 percent, battery life left. The solar charging capability is pretty nifty -- I was out in the sun a lot this weekend, and my battery level was exactly the same this morning (Monday) as it was when I woke up on Saturday. The activity/health/sleep tracking seems pretty accurate so far. The watch feels well-made and looks good on my wrist (in my opinion). No complaints with it yet. The big caveat is that I haven't had a chance to dive with it yet. I have dives upcoming over the next three months, so I will edit my review once I've had the watch in the water. I have checked out the dive functions, and it seems well thought out, with all the info I need displayed clearly in large type on three screens that you can cycle through by double-tapping the watch face. As long as it functions at depth the way it has while learning it on land, and as long as it's as readable underwater as it appears it will be, it should be a great dive watch as well. Update: I just did four dives with the G1, using it as a backup to my Shearwater Peregrine. It was great. Screen visibility was excellent despite the small watch face. I’m starting to need readers in low light situations these days, so this was my main concern. But the display was crystal clear and perfectly readable. The recreation dive screens are well designed. G1 uses the same decompression algorithm as my Shearwater, and the dive data in both logs was the same.

Use it 24/7, in and out of water.
Previous watch was a Phoenix 5. Got this watch as my backup dive computer, and it has worked exceptionally well. My primary Suunto computer, which is air integrated to monitor PSI, and for easy underwater visibility, is what I look at underwater. But I have the Garmin Descent as a backup, and also for recording and downloading the dive details, as the download process is very simple via Bluetooth, and the dive interface is much easier to use on my iPhone or iPad to review the details of the dive, attach pictures/video, and record important information about the dive. When outdoors in the sun, solar charging works, and generally with a full charge, the watch will last up to 19 days without recharge. I’ve used it on approximately 200 dives around the world, to a depth of 180 feet. Also useful for step count, sleep stats, and other fitness information, as it has the Garmin Phoenix fitness programming. Love it, and my best dive computer purchase, even though it my back up computer.

Great combo device
Is great having a device which records both my dives and my health for a decent price. Not really to spend a grand on the fancier model or two grand for air integration. Syncs with both the apps readily and is easy to use. Looks exactly as advertised. Fits smaller wrists well too, which was the biggest fear - it may look and feel too large like standalone dive computers.

Great Watch For The Money
Two years later, and several activities, the watch still works great. Would recommend for anyone who dives this watch. Easy to use, rugged, good battery life, and a must-have if you also like to do activities outside. The watch has never failed during a dive or activity.

Does everything you need in a dive computer, easy on the wrist.
First off, this is a compromise to the full size and full price DECENT. for less than half the price you lose color display and a nicer layout on that screen. Other than that it's a nice daily wearable fitness watch that will start recording dive times even if you don't enter dive mode. I use it mostly for freediving and spearfishing to most importantly track my surface intervals to prevent CO2 overload and shallow water blackouts. It's also fun to monitor my in progress dives in real time. Helps me to work on depth and time improvements. There is a ton of customization and lots of 3rd party support for watch faces and useful apps. overall, I love the Descent G series. I wear the non solar and got the solar for my dougter/dive buddy. It's about the same size as your average g shock and does everything you need. I think I would like the regular descent more but I just can't justify 1200 bucks and it's bigger than what I like on my wrist given that the g shock square is my preferred watch. There are tons of quick change bands available all over the place. Just make sure to get 22mm and the quillock. There's even extra long ones for over wetsuit wearing. I think all the added features give the DESCENT G a huge edge over all of the dedicated dive computer watches under 500 dollars. And the fact that it has such an easy to use and useful apnea mode realy sells it for any freedive oriented user. I recommend this to any diver willing to spend up to 600 but not 1200. It will do the job well for you. If you have a higher budget, get the full size DESCENT with the titanium bracelet.

Premium built
Feels and looks like a premium watch, Gps is accurate and battery life is great. I’m not a diver so I can’t tell you if it holds up as advertised in the water. Activities that I use it for mountain biking walking exercising and cardio work great accurate! I had the instinct 2 solar tactical but was having hard time seeing the display. Seems that the G1 has a better display with backlight Very happy with purchase 👍

Lo compre para bucear pero tambien es muy util en el dia a dia y la bateria le dura mucho (15 dias minimo).

If you’re looking for a smart watch that you don’t need to charge every day like apple and you like to scuba dive this is one of the best Very lightweight, confortable to wear, if you connect it the phone you get 2 weeks autonomy and 5 weeks disconnected. Yes its a black and white screen but it looks like a watch not like a mini iPhone strapped on your wrist. The scuba application starts automatically as soon as you start descending and its clear and accurate in the water.

la computadora de buceo es muy similar al Descent MkI, además de los extras (medidor de frecuencia respiratoria, PO2, etc.) en un reloj mas compacto. la batería dura mucho más que la del Descent MkI. muy buen upgrade.

I primarily bought this watch as a dive computer. The smart watch features is a nice bonus! Very light and the solar power helps extends battery life. I have not gone diving with this watch yet, so I can't comment on its' dive functions yet. I have been using this for my pool swims and tracks my laps and time, so far so good. Battery life is ok, from my use I get about a week's of battery life, it has not reached the 21 days as mentioned. Overall, an excellent dive computer and smart watch!
