Clean, Fast, and Perfect for a Single Drive Setup
This is a great disc drive enclosure and a perfect addition to a workstation setup. It looks sleek and modern, so thereโs no need to hide it away on your desk. It comes with both the power cable and USB cable, making setup simple and straightforward. For my needs, using just one drive reader, it works perfectly. If youโre planning to run multiple drives, the cost could add up. USB 3 provides all the speed youโll realistically need for disc media, so thereโs no need for anything faster. Solid build, clean look, and reliable performance. Highly recommended for single-drive users.

Excellent Enclosure โ Sturdy, Fast, and Worth It
The NexStar DX2 USB 3.0 External Enclosure exceeded my expectations. The aluminum alloy build feels solid and premium, and it fits my fullโsize 5.25" DVDโROM drive perfectly. Once assembled, it looks clean, runs quietly, and performs exactly as it should. USB 3.0 speeds are fast and reliable, and the hotโswappable design is a great convenience. If you need a dependable external enclosure for an optical drive, this one delivers on all fronts.

Great enclosure
this is the second vantec product I've gotten and it has one defining feature: quality. The aluminum housing feels premium and for the price it should. After assembly it worked instantly and it's rubber feet transfer none of the vibrations to and from the drive inside it. no drivers need to be installed and assembly is quick and easy if you take your time and don't rush. Only drawbacks for it is that I paid more for the enclosure than I did for the drive. The cost definitely could have been a lot less since it's just a glorified sata to usb 3.0 adapter but I admit the aluminum is elegant and well made. The other drawback is that it uses usb 3.0 type b instead of a usb c connection. I imagine a future version of the drive will come with type c but it's at least better than 2.0 speeds like i've seen with other enclosures on amazon. Overall it's a great get if you have a computer that doesn't have an internal drive bay. It's an elegant piece of hardware that looks great on my desk and it's worked pretty flawlessly.

Works as advertised. Plug & Play.
Well constructed. Fit my Blu-Ray burner with no issue and Windows 11 auto-detect this device with no hassle. Was able to read a Blu-Ray disc I created a few years ago. I have not had a chance to burn a new Blu-Ray or DVD disc, but I would not see why this would not work. I bought this when I replaced my old Cooler Master HAF 932 case with a LIAN LI Lancool 217 and I still wanted the ability to use my BLU-Ray drive when needed.

A few cons but good overall
It works good. I paired it with an lg blu ray drive that I flashed with libredrive firmware over SATA 1 year ago. This drive often caused Windows Explorer to crash on my Windows 10 PCs. The file explorer will forever be indexing and not be usable until I restart Windows Explorer in the task manager. Then it breaks the thumbnails until I restart my PC. This was not a problem when I used the the same drive over SATA. The enclosure is built well. It is aluminum with plastic bumpers. The package comes with a small screwdriver and many extra screws in case you lose some. The small drawback here is the standoff feet. They are 4 little rubber pieces that attach to the enclosure with adhesive. If you carry this thing in a backpack the legs will eventually fall off and get lost. A cheap shortcut solution for a $60 product in my opinion. The OWC Mercury Pro has feet that screw on for the same price. Overall, the cons are not deal breakers for me so I won't be returning it or anything but if I were to do it again I would buy the OWC Mercury Pro.

Best Value Single-Bay SATA Enclosure on Amazon
This is an nicely-engineered little enclosure with a decent build quality at its price point. It's perfect for my SATA Blu-ray drive, which drive does not slide around inside the enclosure after securing it with the included screws. They also included rubberized, adhesive feet to keep it from sliding around. It is truly plug-and-play: power it on, plug it in, and you're ready to go (at least on the latest major versions of Windows 11 and Ubuntu). I have already used it for 10-12 power on hours ripping multiple discs without any transfer or power issues.

Simple, worked exactly as advertised.
I've been using NexStar enclosures for the last two decades for exactly this reason. This was simple, just worked, screws and screwdriver are included, assembly is a snap as all holes line up perfectly, and as a bonus this one in brushed black aluminum looks absolutely amazing on my desk.

Works as intended.
I mean, it's an enclosure. Not much to them. I do remember the days of there being a lot of options for these kinds of items. This one would still stand out as higher quality even when it seemed there were a dozen companies making them. Now what few are available are often twice the price. I'll judge its price versus the current market. At least this one allowed me to do a firmware update on the optical drive inside without any compatibility issues. Haven't always been that lucky in the past. Assembly was straight forward.

Worth the price for those who need a reliable external drive case.
Nice looking external drive case. Works perfectly. Power supply plugs in to a socket in the back of the case, instead of being permanently attached. This is an advantage because it allows for replacing the power supply if needed. I also like the fact that the USB connection port on the drive is the full-size USB 3.0 type B port that is rarely seen these days. Much better than that flimsy micro-B connector that so many companies use now. I use it with a Blu-Ray drive, ASUSTek BW-16D1HT. Well made. A bit expensive but worth the price in my opinion.

Fits my Blu Ray / MDisc drive perfectly
Well impressed with this. You just plug in the SATA cable that comes with the device then slot the drive in until flush. Plug and play USB, works great. Very stylish too, it's made of a nice metallic finish so it's a solid quality product.

Perfect solution for reusing an old optical drive on a new PC (apart from the plug)
Great piece of kit. If you have a suitable optical drive (I had one reclaimed from an old PC), installation is a doddle, and this enclosure is nicely built and works perfectly (on Windows 11 in my case). My main reason for wanting it is to still be able to rip CDs on my new optical drive-less PC, and it works exactly as I expected/hoped. My old drive still rips at high speed (I watched it go up to 37x in my first test). DVDs and Blu-rays play fine with a standard player app. The enclosure comes with USB3.0 cable, screws and screwdriver to secure the drive, and rubber feet. The only frustration is that it comes with a US plug, so you'll need a UK-US plug adapter. UK mains voltage/frequency is fine.
