Instant Read Thermometer Best Waterproof Digital Meat Thermometer with Backlight and Calibration Functions Food Thermometer for Outdoor and Kitchen Cooking

We actually purchased two; one a year ago for our summer home and because it worked so well we just purchased a second one 3 weeks ago for our year round house. We really like how easy, quick and accurate the thermometer is to use. Our primary use is for cooking meats on the grill, in the oven or pan frying on the stovetop. Our +25 year old “grandma style” glass and stainless probe was OK but new thermometer is night and day better. Simply open, it turns on and is ready for a temp reading, probe food, provides instant temp, wipe off probe and close (units shuts off). We were reading reviews of other competitive units and purchased a second time. Competitive brands did not have the best reviews. I think you will be happy if you purchase this unit. Best, Thomas

If you do enough cooking you'll realize the need for a good thermometer, or thermometers in my case. I have an assortment of them. Analog oven thermometer, long stem deep fryer thermometer, remote smoker thermometer and of course a hand held thermometer. Well my 10+ year old handheld thermometer finally gave up the ghost. It was a short stem unit with pocket clip sheath that I used all the time, especially when trying new cooking methods or different types of food preparation. So I bought this unit to replace my now deceased old diehard temperature pal. This thing is great. Not only was it much less expensive than my old one (technology improvements lowering costs) it's better and I'll tell you why I say this. First of all it's longer than my old unit. This is especially handy over the outdoor grill. Second, it has an auto on auto off feature. It opens like a pocket knife and the display comes on instantly and of as soon as you close it. My old one you had to manually turn it off or it had a preset time out off feature that still sucked battery for a bit in the event you didn't shut it off manually. Small thing to point out, I know, but I appreciate this function. Last thing I really appreciate is the lighted display. I don't know how many times I've been grilling outside during the months of shorter daylight using the old thermometer and I had to tilt it towards my patio lighting to read the display. Oh, I almost forgot to mention, the display is huge compared to my old unit. Right now you're saying this guy is easily impressed to take the time to write a lengthy review for a stupid thermometer. Actually, I'm not easily impressed, but this thermometer did it. Grab one if you're looking for a good all around food thermometer, you won't be disappointed.

I do a lot of smoking on my Treager Grill and was using a Weber thermometer ($10) to check meat temp. The Weber took 5 to 10 seconds to reach temperature and would fluctuate a lot. That mean't the smoker was open longer and I couldn't always tell if my reading was accurate. When the Mister Chefer arrived, I checked the calibration using ice water (put it in the fridge for an hour or two before checking) and it was within one degree so I didn't bother calibrating it. I put a pork shoulder on the smoker and let it go...long and slow. When I used the Mister Chefer, it was up to temp. in one or two seconds and didn't fluctuate at all....I really liked that. Once the pork was up to temp. I took it off, let it sit for 30 minutes, and it ended up being the best pork shoulder I've ever done....fell apart and was oh so tasty! Now, it could have been the dry rub, apple juice spray basting, hickory pellets, sauce, and love I put into it that made it so good, but I think the Mister Shefer helped too :)

I've bought several similar models of this type of product, and I liked them all, but this one is the best. No grand differences, just a lot of subtle improvements that make this the best of its kind. Fast read; big numbers for old eyes; good back-light for display; accurate; probe has a small point so you don't let a lot of juice out when you test temp. My only quibble, which I hope the manufacturer will address, is that the back-light for the display turns off too quickly -- a couple of seconds -- and i wish it would stay on for about 8 to 10 seconds or so. But still five stars-plus.

I really like the look and feel, but the temperature speed is slow. You really have to hold in in for a while and it doesn't read fast enough to easily figure out the gradients as you move through the meat. My cheaper one worked just as well. [EDITED 3/24] The vendor sent me a new thermometer unasked based on this review, which I thought was really great. After reviewing the specs, the new one does read the temperature in the described time. It's got a great shape, nice backlight, and seems to work consistently.

Remember running around the kitchen for the holidays trying to check on the turkey & ham and waiting for analog thermometers to register the temp, then cool down, clean, try the next meat and wait again? I do. And I say fuggettaboutit. I bought this instant read primarily for cooking outside on one of my three grills - yeah, I'm kinda obsessed with what works. And this little guy is a champ. Easy to open, easy to read and easy to clean so you go from one item to the next and get your temp now. As in fast. What's not to like? I got the black one (matches my grills) and it comes with a meat doneness temp guide. Easiest few dollars I ever spent on cooking and yes, it helped me a lot as I put out my Thanksgiving spread. Get yours and take your cooking to the next level as you save time too.

I bought this back in May and it has been nothing but a disappointment. I purchased it because it claims to be "ULTRA FAST" - but that is utter nonsense. The description claims it reads the temp in 3 seconds but in my experience it takes more like 30 to get an accurate read. I've never had such a slow thermometer, it's even slower than my old school non-digital probe. I'm giving it three stars because it works, is easy to read, easy to store, easy to operate. It just didn't live up to my expectations.

This is the second thermometer I've ordered from this seller. I previously owned a less expensive (cheap if you read between the lines) digital thermometer of this type. This one is far better in quality and features. One that is important to me is the ability to calibrate it if necessary. I do quite a bit of smoking on a ceramic grill and meat temperatures are very important to get the best results. A brisket needs to be in the 200° F. range to be at its most tender. Eat brisket that's only 175° F. and you'll never eat it again. You'll tell your other friends that "Joe" served shoe leather for dinner. So having an accurate digital meat thermometer is a tool I can't do without. This one fits the bill.

This is great product, it has a quality look and feel, it's easy to use and has some nice features such as a backlight and a hold button which retains the temperature reading. Calibration was spot-on straight out of the box. I decided to try this as a much lower cost alternative to the Thermopen, which I already have but I needed a second thermometer for the cottage. I can't honestly notice any difference in the time to get a readout although technically it is supposed to be a bit slower- not a problem. I do like the Thermopen and the one I have has lasted a long while and still works well, time will tell whether this one has the same longevity but with the price difference for the same functionality I'll take the chance. I am so impressed I have purchased two more as gifts

So far, this is a great thermometer .The probe is longer, which is wonderful for thicker meats (whole turkey) and baked goods. I have it on my refrigerator, thanks to the magnet, which makes it easy to grab it quickly when needed. It's quick and simple to use, pull the probe out it turns on, push it back it turns off and the auto shutoff feature will save on battery. This is a must-have kitchen gadget! Love using this instant read thermometer when cooking. You get the readout in a couple of seconds.

Pros. Nice sturdy feel, long probe. Auto on when folding out the probe, turns off when folding probe towards unit It really does read temperature within 1 second. The magnet under the backside of the product was a nice touch, can stay attached to the front or side of my fridge for easy access. Cons. The product description should read "water resistant" not "water proof" I would not trust putting this into water. In the product pictures, the electronic thermometer is shown with a bbq cook book, although the book was not included in the "product description", seems like false advertising.

This is a great thermometer which is easy to use, read and clean. so far no issues.

Great little thermometer, good value for the money.. I love the fast read, our previous digital took forever to count up to the temperature, this one is way faster. It closes up nicely for storage, easy to clean and the magnet is handy. When you close it, it turns off, so no wasting battery waiting for an auto turn off.
