CLIFFNOTE VERSION OF STANDARD DISCLAIMER PREFACE: I was skeptical too; Figured low cost ensured a low/no quality piece of no name plastic with a life expectancy that expired before I even bought it. It's a great remote that functions fine. No compatibility issues with my T1i or T3i - High quality look that doesn't scream no name cheap. True it's not a Kevlar remote dipped in titanium but I was surprised by it's decent appearance, look and feel. Not the standard disposable cheap plastic properties to it. Comes with battery (not sure how much a replacement battery is or average lifespan) and instruction 'paper' in a decent small box suitable for storing remote if need be. Switch on back selects timer or just shutter release - Great for long exposures on a tripod where avoiding even the slightest vibration from hitting the shutter is crucial. Shutter remotes and cables are great and a necessity for a plethora of photography uses and techniques and this remote handles it. Range is acceptable - I didn't lay down the tape measure but I had no failures within about 8 feet (which isn't an issue for my uses) - Either preset lens to manual focus and fire away or set to auto and the lens focuses just fine when remote trigger is pushed. No problems or hangups - Remember, depending on your camera you will need to change the settings in the drive mode. For Canon's you switch the drive to self timer/remote - This might sound obvious but I've seen people curse and almost destroy perfectly good remotes, thinking they are inoperable because they forgot to switch a setting in their camera. Adjust timer as/if needed or switch the remote to basic and fire away. Two things to point out - Continuous Shooting mode: You can't hold down the button and shoot continuous, but you can rapidly depress and release the trigger and it functions just like continuous shooting mode. Remote is durable to allow this and I've already put some work on it. Bulb Mode; I may be wrong but it doesn't seem to support bulb mode..? I didn't get a chance to mess with it too much in bulb mode so maybe someone else can field that question. Great buy and gadget -

Easy to use, works and compatible with canon, great battery life, compact size, sleek design, no lag

This product is a very cheap knockoff which did not work, and I wasted several hours trying to figure out why. I bought new batteries. I tried it upside down, inside out, close up and far out. I took it and my camera to the camera shop and was able to definitively determine that it was not operator error. It is truly, a literal piece of junk. I bought the Canon brand at the camera shop for only $12 more than this thing, and it worked just like that. Bam! So don't waste your time, money, effort, energy, photo ops, and just buy one up front that won't be a hit or miss. Also, the one year warranty on this thing; can only find contact online which is located in China and unfortunately I missed the 30 day window to return to Amazon.

I like to play around with long exposures and would always have camera shake involved before this purchase. It works just as it states it does. One thing I notice is that the infrared sensor on the camera and the remote have to be almost even. So if you're trying to remote activate the shudder while you're in the group shot, that might be kind of obvious unless you set it to a 2 second timer off of the remote. I have not tried doing a group shot where I am in it, so I can not be exact on this. I had read somewhere that this remote will not work in "bulb" exposure mode and it does. One click to activate/hold shudder (you do not even have to hold the button on the remote) and another click stop the "bulb" exposure. I have a Canon T5i and it has worked flawlessly in the week that I have had it. I will recommend to friends and would buy again.

It does what I need it to do, I guess. After putting the camera (Canon 7D mkii) in remote mode (2 or 10 second timer), the remote triggers the delay timer or does a single shot depending on the position of the button on the back of the remote. In video mode (on camera), the 0 setting (on the remote) triggers a photo after focusing the lens; this is key, because if I am remote shooting a video, I need to focus it before starting the video. It doesn't matter that it also happens to take a photo. The 2nd setting (on the remote) starts and stops the video (in the camera). So I think I will get what I need out of this. It does function a little differently with my 6D -- it does not auto focus before a single shot when the camera is in video mode. It will not autofocus the 6D at all; it just triggers the shutter, and it can start and stop videos as well.

5 of 5 Excellent customer service, I wrote a few questions and were perfectly answered. IT DOES WORK as an immediate remote shutter release and delayed shutter release as well. I only wish it worked from other than the front but that is not a design flaw of the remote but of the camera, IR sensor is on the front. I would definitely buy other products from Foto&Tech, product is just what it said it was!!! I lost my first one and just got another, works great and does work from the side but toward the front because the IR sensor is on front. THESE work great as long as you know that for my camera for instance I had to put the camera on 2 second delay to use the remote and it takes the photo immediately with the remote at that setting and know to pull the little piece of plastic out that protects the battery from draining until you use it, ( you do not put it back in just for packing it for shipment).

Foto Tech provided very fast shipping and a great price. I bought this for a large family photo which would include myself and some impatient children. I used this with a Canon 6D and set the timer to 2 seconds. I stood about 12 feet away and I had to aim it just right for it to trigger. I would push a lot and it wouldn't work, but then it would. When it did work, the two seconds would go by faster than it should have so I didn't have enough time to get my hand back to a normal position. I couldn't get it to work with the 10 second timer but I didn't try hard enough because there were little children getting bored. You have to be subtle when you aim otherwise the camera will catch you with the trigger. I wish this was more sensitive so you didn't have to point directly at the camera every time. I held the trigger at my hip, flicked my wrist up to aim, and sometimes it would go off, other times it wouldn't. It's hard to take photos with this. It does work if you aim close to the camera's sensor, but in a family portrait setting, it's hard to do that just right. This trigger served its purpose for our family photo. We got the photo done but my expression is one of frustration as i tried to make the trigger work. Next time I will buy something of higher quality.

Update on my second purchase: Used it on last weekend hike. Took 110 shots using this remote. It's still working... Update: This is my second purchase. I bought it as a spare after being very satisfied with the first one. I hike every weekend and can take between 100-200 shots on a 8-10 mile trail. I've been using this for the past two weekends. Last weekend was about 400 shots, being a four-day weekend for me. Works fine so far. I read a number of reviews that the battery does not last. What I did is I kept that plastic thing that comes with it in the box. If I know I will not use it for a couple of minutes, I put that plastic back so the battery is blocked. Last weekend, I was shooting at the foot of a waterfall and I dropped it in a water. I picked it up as fast as I can. I was afraid it will no longer work, after wiping it dry, I just started using it again as if nothing happened. I'm buying another one for spare.

I ordered the product and expected 5 days to deliver, but imagine my surprise when it arrived within 24hrs. Anyways, it's a simple Canon replacement remote for 1/6th the price. Comes with a velvet case, and can be attached to a key chain. It's simple to use, if you just follow the instructions provided in your Camera manual or look online. thanks

Works well - only problem was using it with the 10 second delay. Either it will not work with the 10 sec delay or there is a problem with the camera settings. For 2 second delay and immediate photo is works as expected.

5 of 5 A must have bit of kit, cannot recommend this enough.Once you have used this unit you will always want one in your bag.I use it on a Canon 60D and is the second one I have purchased (the other disappeared at a seminar!) . When shooting Weddings this is fantastic for in Church shots, camera mounted on a tripod no need for me to be standing or moving about during the ceremony, don't forget this also works for video capture.For Portraiture this adds a creative element that only remote shooting can only give, years ago the only option was a short cable release. I know other photographers have had issues and when they contacted me the problem turned out to be operator error. Set camera on timer, remote has the option to shoot with the time delay or overrides the camera setting and shoots instant, no need to adjust the camera settings. If in doubt just refer to YouTube and you can find how to set it up. Photographic equipment is renown for commanding a premium price, this is an absolute snip.
