Electricity energy, not infrared. It can heat up fast with low noise that has no bothering the normal life.

I think it can be sit on the floor, because it's bottom is flat.

How far can a remote control effectively control an electric fireplace?

The effctive distance of remote control is 6~8 meters as normal. I think it is the enough distance for routine use.

This it what it says in description “ 27.5"-27.6"(W) X 23.7"-23.8"(H) X 8.86"-9.06"(D)” I did 27.5” keep in mind though that the cord for it comes out the bottom right side, not the back. Which is a silly design flaw. I had to notch out about 1.5” on lower right of opening to slide it in.
