Q: Can this be dried in a tumble dryer?

Haven't tried it but wouldn't as it is a kind of felt. One thing to be aware of is the mat in the picture looks very big with a retriever/labrador. The mat is a lot smaller that made out to be. The mat is approx 25 inches long by 16 inches wide. hope this helps.

Q: This is quite stiff,does it need washing before use?

I didn’t wash it before the first use and it was extremely well received by the woofer, but equally I have washed it at least one and it has come out of the laundry unscathed .
