Is this the old version that you soak in water?

I do think it is the old version.  I got the other type and my tortoises did not like it.  You can soak it in water.  I do.  I have 2 red foot tortoises.  I bought the 25 lb bag and only feed 5 pellets a day but it stays fresh in the house.  Hope this helps Lisa.

I do not know the answer. It could be referring to soybean hulls. This is best answered by the manufacturer. I am pleased with the product, and my tortoises are in excellent health. They receive the tortoise diet in addition to greens and other vegetation.

Which is best for redfoot tortoise?

The original Mazuri tortoise diet is the formula that I feed my 10 Redfoots, which are primarily kept outdoors in Florida. But I only give it to them once every 7-10 days, unless it is mixed with fresh foods (see my recipe below). Pellet formulas are all too high in protein to be fed on their own on a daily basis, and Redfoots in particular require a varied diet of fresh foods for optimal health.

Mazuri is designed be fed on its own, but it’s much better if you rehydrate it and mix it with chunks of fresh fruit and veggies. It’s perfect for warming Redfoots up in cooler weather if you rehydrate the pellets in hot water, and let the mixture cool off enough to touch before offering it to the tortoises on a bed of chopped greens/lettuce.

Amy’s DYI “Gourmet” Redfoot Dinner (serves 10): Boil 1/2 c. chunks of carrot in 1 c. water until soft enough to mash with a fork, add about 1 c. Mazuri to the pot of squished carrots and water. Let soak for 10-15 min. until cool enough to touch. Stir in about 1/4 c. of any fresh or frozen fruit (diced strawberries, blueberries, raspberries chunks of banana, apple, mango, papaya, etc.), throw in a 2-3 chopped mushrooms if you have some. Stir in 1/2 to 1 c. chopped greens (collard, turnip, mustard, kale, chard) or serve on a bed of lettuce (romaine, mixed salad, arugula). Sprinkle with calcium powder and serve warm (not hot!!!) or at room temperature.

Unused portions can be kept in a sealed container the fridge for 5-7 days, or frozen (use ice cube trays to make individual servings) and thawed completely or reheated before serving. Add a few more dry Mazuri pellets if the mixture becomes too watery. My Redfoots go crazy for this DIY Dinner!
