When my son first said he wanted sno cones at 5th birthday party, I thought, "Oh, great!" We have a little hand crank toy/machine that actually works fairly well for what it is, but it takes so long to even make one cone! So, I looked into renting a machine. I could have rented an industrial-sized sno cone maker (the kind you see at fairs) locally for $40, but I'd have had to pick it up and return it during business hours and still get all my own supplies, including syrups from them in gallon quantities. But, I was thinking, I'd do it anyway because it was my son's only birthday request aside from a green lantern cake. But, then I got on Amazon and found that we could own this well-reviewed machine for less than the cost to rent it! So, I bought it. It worked wonders! We served at least 20 large sno cones in the same number of minutes...that includes the time it took each kid to decide on which flavor(s) they wanted. It exceeded my expectations. We used bagged ice and we let the ice melt for a bit to become translucent as suggested. And, in fact, found that pulling ice from the cooler where we'd stored drinks worked exceptionally well. I think when we make them at home next we'll pull ice out of the freezer (ice cube trays) and put a little water over it before using. The machine isn't soundless, but I also didn't think it was too loud. Operation is easy - you only have to turn the plastic cover - kind of like some blenders I've seen that won't operate without the cover on, so it turns it into a safety feature at the same time. Also, the bucket holds a fair amount of ice. The whole white top comes off so it's easy to remove excess water/ice when you're ready to clean up. The little scoop that comes with worked out fine, but I ended up using my hands a lot to pile and shape the sno cones. I didn't really want to store another gadget, but I'd rather have this taking up place than the hand-crank machine that I have to throw all my weight into. This stays, the other one goes!

I love this machine! It works well and is so much fun! I ordered different flavored juice to pour over and they are great also! Would recommend! Adults love it just as much as kids

Nostalgia Snow Cone Shaved Ice Machine is an ideal addition to summer activities. We've used this on numerous occasions this summer. It's not that large as you may think -- so picture is slightly misleading in term of the size. However, anything larger would have made it difficult to store in cabinet. Because ice is the only intake, the cleanup is very minimal. The snow storage has ample capacity to scoop up shaved ice using the provided scoop. I don't see any issues with leak. The machine is pretty straight forward to use, it's mostly plug and play. The motor/assembly/blade locking mechanism could have been better. Recommendations: * Let the ice cubes thaw for about a minute before you start using it. Otherwise, I've noticed them getting stuck. My complains: * The machine is very loud and noisy. You couldn't hear people talking in the room if the machine was also running. * I've noticed on number of occasions that the machine does not automatically turn on even after putting the lid on and twisting it properly. You have to fiddle with it couple of times. I am afraid the plastic cover/lock at the top may wear out over the time. If after ~4-6 week of light use I'm seeing this type of wear, I'm afraid it may not last next summer. I'm glad to have purchased extended warranty.

Snow cone machine was a hit at my child’s Summer birthday party! Pros: -Fast- snowy shaved ice in a couple minutes. -Ease of use and safety- I like the safety features and simple enough for my 10yo to operate it, without me having to worry about hurting himself. -Portable enough to bring it to my neighbor’s BBQ. - it came with a scooper. - the 2 slots in front frees my hand and pouring the syrup a lot easier and faster. -We spend at least 6 bucks or so per person every time we see a snow cone truck during Summer months, so technically we are saving $$, (girl math), lol! -Easy to clean, just use paper towels to absorb remaining melted ice. Cons: - My kids won’t stop asking for it so I have been using it almost every day. - it’s loud, the noise level is comparable to using the blender. Best to gather the kids once done shaving ice.

I bought this to satisfy our summertime popsicle cravings while cutting down on the artificial dyes my daughter was getting from freeze pops. We use it with dye-free snow-cone syrups, and it has quickly become one of the most-used appliances in our house. We’ve had it for a little over a week and have already made around 50 snow cones. We normally use it at least once a day in the Oklahoma heat, sometimes more when we have guests. The kids love it, the adults love it, and it has enough capacity to make several snow cones at once. It shaves regular ice from the refrigerator or an ice tray extremely well. Softer bagged ice, like the kind you can buy from Sonic, works even better and produces especially fluffy shaved ice. We use the NFK ice tray cubes with it, which are perfect but regular ice tray ice cubes fit just fine. It is pretty loud but nothing you wouldn't expect if you've been around a mechanical ice shaver before. Operating it is incredibly simple to the point that your kids can help and operate it. Add ice to the top, lock the lid into place, and it automatically begins shaving as long as the machine is plugged in. Unlocking the lid stops it. Cleanup is also easy because the shaving assembly can be removed, and the inside generally only needs to be wiped dry. I would recommend washing before the first use. My only complaint is the positioning of the shaver and power cord. With the cord facing away from the door, the shaved ice falls very close to the door. You can rotate the top so the ice falls farther back, but that leaves the cord positioned above the door and makes scooping slightly awkward. It isn’t a major problem, but the layout could have been designed a little better. Overall, this is a great snow-cone machine for the price. It is easy to operate, easy to clean, and holds plenty of shaved ice, it weighs next to nothing and it's pretty versatile. I would definitely buy it again. After all, who doesn’t want a snow cone on a hot summer day?

This worked excellent- it’s especially easy to use and clean - I liked it and am glad I didn’t get the more expensive options- it’s probably best used two to four times a year- for birthdays and holidays- if you’re looking for something that you’re wanting to use more then a more expensive option might be the better choice- otherwise this will do what you need for sure- especially if you take good care of it and follow the instructions to a T
