how long can the substrate last in the bag?

Not long mine was green when it arrived.

Do I just need this kit and a spore syringe to grow or would I need something different or additional?

You would want something like rye berries or straw depending on the mushroom. To inoculate with a spore syringe to colonize then mix in this substrate but if you have myceilium already colonized you would just mix it into this substrate. You wouldn't want to just inject this with spores, from my understanding.

How long will this product last before use when stored properly? And what would be recommended storage if possible?

The sooner you use it, the better. Because it's a sterilized substrate, it will probably be fine for 6 months to a year. I'd keep it in a cool dry place. This is a good option and I've been pleased with the product.

Where do I acquire a rye, vermiculite, pearlite substrate? Thanks

amazon, home depot, hydroponic store...... but if you are planning to add it to this substrate you would need to sterilize it. This bag is made to be used without adding anything to it

Very disappointed

Thought this was suppose to be one of the best substrates out there to use. It takes time to grow and I’m using for personal use so I only do a few grow bags at a time. With in 6 months when I went to use I noticed bugs in my substrate. Now I kept indoors, I folded and clipped the bag tight when not in use and it was stored in the original bag, box in a closed cabinet. When I looked further I saw it was infested with gnat bugs and I felt like it was no longer usable for indoor use. It was over the return time so it was a complete waste of money on my end. If you’re using for a large grow at one time then it might be better but not in my case. I already disposed of it and did not take pictures because when I noticed this I just wanted to get it out of the house.

Wait a few weeks before going to bulk.

Original order was for 2 dung lovers bags, waited a few weeks and saw that one was contaminated. Contacted North Spore directly with my Amazon order # and they immediately sent me a replacement. Great customer service response and communication. Ordered 3 more dung lovers bags due to my needs and currently waiting to see if they along with the replacement crop up with contamination. Great response from North Spore otherwise.
