The perfect clock radio/charger for for me - has all of the features I wanted.
An awesome clock/charger/radio. The 2.1 amp charger charges my Android phone easily each night - nice having a choice of USB A or C.. The color and size of the clock numbers is relaxing and easy to read. FM radio is just fine and stores up to 20 stations. The scanning feature is nice for finding the channels to store. The SmartSet feature worked perfectly. It is a little more expensive - $39.99 vs $20.99 - than some others but it has ALL of the features and power you need plus you have heard of the brand. All in all it is the perfect clock radio/charger I wanted and it feels good that I recognize the Emerson brand.

This is one really great clock radio!
Alarm clocks come in all sizes and shapes with all kinds of different features. I actually didn't want an alarm clock for myself, but rather my wife wanted a radio to use in the kitchen. I got her this one because it looked like it might be easier to use than her last one and also because she has poor vision and the picture showed nice large numbers. But when it came she told me she only wanted a radio, not an alarm clock. So, rather than send it back, I decided to swap it for my old alarm clock which was adequate but wasn't anything to rave about. This clock though, is something to rave about. This is the first clock I have ever owned that accurately and easily sets the local time all by itself! You just set the correct time zone and a few seconds later the right time is displayed. Nice. It also has two different alarms. That lets you set alarms for your work week and also for the weekend. I get up at 5 am during the week. On the weekends I sleep in till 8. I have both alarms set and I'm able to pick only M-F for one alarm and only Sat-Sun for the other alarm. As an old TV ad used to say, "Just set it and forget it!" Controlling the alarm when it goes off is easy too. If you do nothing it will turn off by itself after 10 minutes I believe. If you want it to snooze, just tap the front of the silver colored plate on the top and it will start the alarm again in a few minutes and if you want to turn off the alarm completely, just tap a button on the left side of the top and it goes silent until the next time that alarm should sound. Other nice features include an easy to turn on and off radio function that also has room for several preset stations. The clock numbers are cyan in color, which is easy to see. Plus there are 3 different levels of brightness for the numbers (really bright, medium, and dim) which you can change just by tapping a switch on the top of the clock. Speaking of the top of the clock, if you tap the back of the top plate it turns on/off a bright night light that is on the bottom of the clock. And you can also charge a phone or bluetooth device with a handy usb power connection on the back. And there is also an AUX plug on it, although I can't recall if it is AUX out or in. Haven't felt the need to use that function yet. And finally, like most good alarm clocks, this one has a place you can install a battery, so that you won't be late to work should there be a power outage where you live.

Good unit that could be better
The Emerson Smart Set is a useful clock radio that could be improved with some tinkering. What's nice about it? First, it's size is just right for a bedside table/night stand. The unit has a very useful digital night light that illuminates the base and provides a good deal of light in a dark room. The clock face is dimmable and that is done very simply by clicking the front of the unit to one of 3 brightness levels. The greatest dimming is perfect for sleeping. You can also charge you phone by connecting a charger to the back of the unit. The unit is bluetooth capable so favorite music from a phone or other device can play. The Emerson has very nice sound for the size. What limits this unit? First, the controls are not intuitive. I have to consult the directions that came with it to manage the controls, whether it be to set a radio station to one of the 20 saved settings or to adjust the sound or move from one station to the next. Second, it only picks up FM stations. Certainly FM is likely used more by most people today anyway but there is no way to use the unit to pick up AM unless you connect via bluetooth and use a service. I'm considering getting a different clock radio unit that provides features that operate simpler but the price for this unit is very good and the good things about the unit outweigh the bad for me. Therefore, 4 stars - worth the price and the purchase but may not fit everyone's needs.

Very configurable clock
Great clock because: 1. It auto dims as the room darkens 2. You can set the starting level of the alarm volume and it will get louder until you shut it off (I have mine set to 11 and it takes me about 30 seconds to hear it) 3. Two alarms so I don't need to reset the alarm time based on the day and my varying wake up times 4. USB port for phone charger is on the back of the clock where it won't block the screen 5. Automatically sets time once you set the date. 6. Backup battery is an installed Lithium. No 9V silliness here It does everything I need it to do and for a good price.

Really good replacement for my old analog clock radio
Let me start with the Cons of the radio, or actually, the instructions. They are cram packed, so you may have to bring a magnifying glass [so, this is more of a complaint against the instructions and not the radio itself]. But once you do take the time to read the instructions, you'll find this clock has a lot of neat features. Now for the Pros... I just love how it starts off at a very low volume and slowly gets louder and louder. It's not a "hi, I'm on at full volume", instead, it starts off nice and low. The second thing I like is the M-F wake time can be different than Sat/Sun time. I set the M-F for 6AM... The sat/sun is set for 7AM [or you can turn off Sat/Sun]. The snooze button is your standard 9 minute snooze and right in the front middle top of the clock radio. I waited to write this review, and yes, it automatically changed for Daylight savings. I did not have to touch anything, it automatically moved the clock time forward an hour. I like a very dim setting, and yes, the clock goes all the way down to very dim. On bright, it can light up the night, so I'm happy with the range. The radio is digital and is fine. I don't need a perfect sound with bass, etc... It's a clock radio, it's small, it's not going to have amazing sound. For it's size, I will say it does sound good. But I'm not using the radio to play all day long, I'm using it to wake me up and once I'm up, the radio goes off. If your expectations are that it's a clock radio, with digital display, that automatically stays on the correct time, this is a great match.

Bluetooth works well with my iPhone
UPDATE 14 months later: suddenly this radio no longer picks up some radio stations. I tried my 20 YEAR OLD radio, and I can pick up the stations clearly. So this radio has not lasted, something has gone wrong with it and I DO NOT RECOMMEND IT. I wanted to clock/radio/bluetooth speaker. This replaced my very old clock radio that had a port to set my iPhone on to charge - back when the ports were larger. I've been using my old iPhone as an iPod basically, but the battery has finally completed died to being unrechargeable, and the old clock radio isn't compatible with the new iPhones. I did not want a blue tooth charger, though, because I don't want to keep taking the phone out of the case. With this clock radio, the buttons are not intuitive. I have to read the instructions every time I want to do anything, like, how to switch from the radio to bluetooth. How to switch back. How to turn off BT. Setting the pre-set radio stations was a complete pain, because it is not intuitive and I had to follow the instructions step by step. So - the only thing I haven't done is figure out how to set the alarm. I figure this won't be easy, so I'm waiting for an evening that I have time to focus on it. The sound is fine for a tiny clock radio, and much better than trying to listen to my iPhone music. I like listening to music at a low volume to fall asleep with, so this is perfect. I thought since the USB port is part of it, that I would plug my iPhone into it. Although my iPhone was charging when I plugged in the cable from the iPhone to the USB port, it actually used up more battery than it was charging. In other words, the clock radio's USB port is such a slow charger for the iPhone, that my iPhone used up more power being connected with the Bluetooth than it gained power from the USB port. So basically, the USB port is useless. I decided to keep this anyway, since everything else is okay.

Emerson ER100301: SO close but not quite. This is the newest version w/ three brightness levels and a high amp USB charger.
There have been many average reviews of previous designs for both the Emerson CKS1507/CKS1708 and iTOMA CKS507, and this will be an average review of the new one. Aw, what! They didn't fix everything mentioned by 1000+ Amazon reviews? NOPE. I wanted to love this as an alarm clock, I wanted it to be a perfect way to wake gently, I wanted easy to read time and day fields (including the date would have been nice too). But no, these few basic features were poorly designed and executed in this clock. The truly sad thing is that this is still the best you can get if you want large text, day of the week, and dual alarms. Other clocks have issues such as being unreadable at low angles, no USB charging, battery power only, really ugly:), etc. Features I do love: *The lowest brightness level is perfect...on weekdays (explained below and in photos). *The exterior design and cyan color are very nice looking. *The night light is quite useful and set at a really good brightness level. *The time display is large enough to be read from 30 feet away. *It's a plug-in, not a cheap travel clock. *Day of the week. However I feel the day is too small since it may only be read from about six feet away. Things I hate and which Emerson Co. should have fixed: *The volume is still forced to a stupidly loud scale...i.e. Even level 1 out of 10 can easily wake you from across the room. Emerson's idea of 'waking up gently' is starting at a too-loud level 1 then rapidly increasing the volume to 8. Believe me, you will be cussing when it reaches level 4 after only 20 seconds. Their instructions stating the alarm volume will not exceed the radio volume you set, is still false. Come on, a simple analog volume knob, 50 cents, problem solved! *Then you can see in my photos that they did fix the brightness by adding a low level setting. Brightness is just perfect on weekdays, but what the heck happens when 11:59 PM Friday turns into 12 AM Saturday? The perfect weekday brightnes is cut in half as soon as the red Saturday LED turns on. You cannot read the time on Saturday and Sunday with the brightness on its lowest setting. Moot 'features': *Bluetooth, because it is mono speaker, so just for fun I guess? *Passive sub-woofer radiator on the bottom, again because it is mono. *The 'BEEP' alarm is far less obnoxious than the radio, but still at the forced volume. *Surprise! The weekday/weekend alarms are sort of useless, and here's why. I almost always wake before the alarm, so I turn it OFF in the morning then back ON every night anyway. That means it's off Friday morning and back on Sunday night...with no need for the 'weekday' alarm feature. To conclude, I am keeping the Emerson ER100301 as a great clock, but with imperfect alarm-clock features.

Love my Emerson alarm clock
I put off getting a new alarm clock for a long time because I was so used to my old one and had it for many years - eventually the buttons actually began to wear out so it was time to invest in a new one. My old one was an Emerson as well and I loved it so I knew I wanted to get the same brand. My favorite feature of my old one was that it would re-set itself if we lost power and also for daylight savings so I made sure my new clock included those same features. I actually like this new clock better than the old one - it's not as big, and I like that I can turn my alarm off with the simple push of a button instead of having to slide a button into the off position like I did with the old one. Another feature I really like is that even after turning my alarm 'off' when it goes off in the morning, my alarm still stays set for the rest of the week and will go off the next day at the same time - I don't have to remember to set my alarm every night at bedtime. I don't mind the sound at all - it's not loud or harsh or jarring, it's on the higher-pitched end as far as alarm sounds go. A really heavy sleeper might sleep through it, but I'm a super light sleeper so it works fine for me. I am thankful that you can adjust the brightness level on the clock, as the 'regular' setting I find to be very bright when it's right next to my bed. I tap the button twice to dim it to it's lowest brightness level and it's perfect - if I roll over in the night I can still see the time but it's not so bright that it's keeping me awake. I really haven't found anything I don't like about this clock and I've been using it for quite a while now - this is my second Emerson brand clock I've owned in the past 20 years - the last one lasted about 10 years before I decided to purchase this one.

Only for use in America not UK
Unusable using a standard UK power supply as this came with an American plug so not compatible. I did get a full refund.

This clock radio has exceeded my expectations
Though the instructions are a little unclear, I finally figured out to use the radio and the bluetooth. For a small unit, the sound quality is pretty good. I like the grey/blue colored digits of the clock. The brightness of the clock is adjustable and it's easy to set it at an appropriate level. The night light is a very nice feature and it's easy to turn on and off. Overall, I'd say it's a good deal for the price and I'm thinking about getting a second unit for the den.
