I bought this Kilner wide-mouth jar for my sourdough starter, and it’s been brilliant. The wide opening makes it easy to stir and feed, and the seal is strong enough to keep things fresh without any mess. I bought these because they have a wide mouth which helps when mixing sourdough starter. Quality is great as expected with Kilner products.

Perfect for making Sloe Gin!

These jars are great for fermenting with. I find with the regular kilner jars that even with glass weights some of what you are trying to ferment will manage to sneak up the sides and float at the top meaning that a layer of nasty cling film needs to be used to keep everything submerged. Doesn’t happen with this as the weights fit snuggly against the sides. So far I’ve made several sauerkrauts and hot sauces with no issues.

It’s easy to fill and clean but quite heavy to pour. I bought it to make Kefir but have gone back to the plastic one! Using this jar for bottling fruit now.

These are nice jars but as with many other reviews I found it difficult to match up lid sizes, contacted Kilner twice but as yet no reply. Adding simple measurements as with other manufactures would take the guess work out of ordering, needless to say my order didn't fit existing lids, also disappointed with marketing displaying Union Jack along with ' invented by John Kilner and Co. in England' It clearly says 'Made in China' on the bottom.

Not really sure what you can say about it. I brought it to put degreaser in and it hasn’t evaporated serval months later so the lid sits tight, I couldn’t tell you if it’s fully airtight but it seems to be good enough. Would I buy it again? Yes sure if I needed more I’d definitely get this one again!

At this point this is around my 250th Kilner jar. I have every shape, size and volume. I have some that are over 15 years old. I’ve never had one break or crack or smash from thermal shock. They are brilliant jars and worth every penny.

Excellent jars

Wir lagern darin Trockenfrüchte. Die Gläser (1Liter) sehen sehr wertig und nostalgisch aus, was uns sehr gefällt. Mal was anderes, als die üblichen Plastikboxen und -dosen. Wir sind damit sehr zufrieden und können sie wärmstens empfehlen.

Just no words for it. The material is excellent and the jar is very tall and wide mouth really very useful for canning vegetables. The packaging was well done and no damage to the glass item.
