I’m curious, what are the syringes for?

I’m not sure what it is used for, but you are correct. It clearly says in the item description portion of this page “syringes“. Not sure what for or even if it is a syringe, but you’re not crazy it is right there.

Does anyone make a cotton thread sewing kit?

I don't know. This thread is impossible to put through even the largest needles without the extra wire attachments.

How do you start the thread? There is no starting point sticking out.
