The Amazon Basics Female-to-Female HDMI Adapter is a handy thing to have if, like me, you have loads of 1-2m HDMI cables that are thrown in with everything these days. Need a bit more reach temporarily to work on or test something? Chain those puppies together. Got tired of seeking out the extra port on the back of my monitor, so now I keep a shorty plugged in all the time with one of these on end. Any time I need to connect a laptop, broken PC, devkit, etc. I just connect to the readily waiting and conveniently located end.

My home setup is more complicated than most with devices that us "standard" HDMI, mini HDMI, and micro HDMI connectors. The "regular/standard" HDMI end of the cable would be what plugs into a television or distribution box where the standard, mini, or micro HDMI plugs into the end device. Rather than replacing the HDMI cable from the distribution box to a device each time I need to connect something different I instead plug the single HDMI cable with standard ends on both sides to the cable to the device that has one of these HDMI female/female connectors on it. That way I am hot hunting around for different cords when I need them, I simply move the single cable to the device I need to grab video from. The bonus is while not in use the cable that attaches to the remote device has the HDMI female/female connector AND a HDMI terminator (a.k.a. "dummy plug"). This fools the device into thinking that it is connected to a remote video device and as such will make use of the internal GPU, if there is one, where if no HDMI cable was pugged int the GPU would go unused. It is difficult to explain but it is very handy. Don't need to do any of that? Get a pack of these things to join HDMI cables together to make a single, longer cable when needed.
