The best was to improve startup time and data transfers.
Great tool to download hdd to ssd drives. Great tool to reduce the time. Not a big investment and very useful today. SSD drive prices went up on 1 TB and bigger, Should go down over time, shop download time (transfer speed) and size to help lower your cost. SSD โs are faster at any price point over HDD and use less power.

Worked well, but have to move USB ports each time
First and most important I was able to fire up and move the data off a very old IBM Travelstar (July 2002) 40GB ATA/IDE drive. So, from that point of view, worth every penny. On my Win 11 HP tower, the OS reports the USB device is not supported or the USB device is not recognized. Moving it to another USB port would work. Did not spend too much time on this, but in three sessions, was the same each time regardless of the port I started with. Makes me worry that it may not work in the future.

SATA IDE adapter that will work with 2.5" and 5.25" DVD drives and not just hard drives
Didn't know exaclty how I'd like this adapter when I ordered it. But I decided to try using an old PATA DVD Rom drive I had laying around on my Windows 11 laptop. Worked instantly after I plugged everything in and turned the toggle switch on the adapter. Tried a DVD with VLC and played no problems. I have a SATA Doc. But this adapter will allow me to check and verify what if any data I have on a bunch of IDE hard drives I have laying around. I was a little surprised I didn't need to bother to find an old IDE cable I had laying around. It will only attach to one device at a time. But it works. And for that I'm happy.

It worked
I had three old hard drives sitting collecting dust and wasn't sure what was on them anymore or if they even would work, one of them is a 20 year old IDE drive. This seemed like a perfect solution especially since I had nothing around anymore that would connect to an IDE drive. This worked on all three drives and I was even able to run deleted file recoveries on all of them. I was actually surprised the IDE drive worked given how old it was, although it seemed like it took a couple of tries to get it to work again after turning it off to swap in another SATA drive, it is great that it came with an IDE power cable, but you do have to really bend the wires to plug it in. It does seem like it can take some time for this to pick up the drives in Windows, I did also have to prop the adapter up for one of the SATA drives as it didn't sit flat and was just enough to not get a good connection to it. I would also suggest not expecting fast transfer speeds, I've seen some comments on that too, the IDE drive was really slow, but it is 2 decades old and it is going to be expected when working with old drives.

Didn't work for me
Did not work on my faulty hard drive.

Works great
This is especially handy if you have old computer drives lying around and want to pull data from them without installing the drives internally. The connections feel solid, and switching between different drive types is straightforward.

Appears to be unstable with optical drives
I purchased this because I wanted a 16x external optical drive that was stable and reliable and needed an interface. I tried this product with two different known-good SATA drives and it failed miserably. It would make the original USB connection and start running normally, then it would periodically disconnect/reconnect USB. I switched to the Unitek equivalent for SATA drives and it's working just fine. I don't know if this is just with optical drives or other devices have the same issue. Their documentation said it should work, but even with the power supply connected it is very unstable.
