Hello MrB my wife and I bought one for our kitchen casue we have a 2 bedroom house and making the best of our room when the table is open it is 45 1/2 inches long and 32 1/2 wide the. Benches are 39 inches long we fit 4 people with no problems it is hand built and made to last a long time

Are the shelves adjustable?

They aren't adjustable, but you can change them with very basic carpentry skills. Great product
