Review: My XXL Cursive Writing Practice Book: KS2 Ages 7-11 Joined Up Continuous Cursive Handwriting - "My XXL Cursive Writing Practice Book: KS2 Ages 7-11 Joined Up Continuous Cursive Handwriting - Supports the National Curriculum is a truly enchanting handwriting activity book that I recently purchased for my little cousin, who has faced challenges with letter formation and fine motor skills. I chose this book specifically because it beautifully aligns with the handwriting program he is learning at school, which emphasises pre-cursive handwriting. This engaging method introduces tails before and after each letter, helping him master the art of joining letters seamlessly. The activity pages are designed in greyscale, ensuring a focused environment without the distractions of overwhelming colours. The quality of the pages is impressive, allowing for smooth use with a Berol handwriting pen. It's essential to know what handwriting scheme your child is being taught in school to maintain consistency, as there are various programs like Nelson Handwriting. For children practicing the pre-cursive style, this book is an exceptional tool. Its thoughtful structure is remarkable, offering tracing lines followed by ample space for independent practice, making it not just a workbook, but a delightful journey toward confident handwriting. Review: Good for practice and well organised - The XXL Cursive Writing Practice Book is such a helpful way to make handwriting practice feel less stressful. The big pages give you plenty of room to try out those loops and swirls without worrying about running out of space, and it’s nice to see progress as the letters start looking smoother day by day. My 7 years old love to practice with this book compared to other ones purchased in the past. One little tip: even just five minutes a day can really build up muscle memory, so it’s worth sticking with it regularly. My son’s cursive is getting so neat that now that even my doctor would be jealous of his handwriting!

My child can now write beautifully… and I can no longer read anything they write
I bought My XXL Cursive Writing Practice Book (KS2 Ages 7–11) with the dream of raising a well-written, academically prepared child. What I actually created is a tiny Victorian-era novelist who refuses to print anything ever again. Page 1: adorable tracing. Page 5: confident letter formation. Page 12: my child starts adding “flair” to letters that were never meant to have personality. Page 20: I am no longer sure if the word “cat” is spelled correctly or if it’s a decorative flourish. The book itself is actually solid: * Plenty of space for practice (which is good, because mistakes happen… emotionally and physically) * Clear dotted guides that my child treats as “optional suggestions” * Gradual progression that lulls you into false academic security What I didn’t expect: * Sudden obsession with “joined-up writing aesthetics” * Refusal to write in print like it’s a betrayal of heritage * My child signing birthday cards like a medieval royal decree Pros: * Very structured, easy-to-follow KS2 handwriting progression * Good balance of repetition and sentence practice * Quietly effective at improving cursive (dangerously so) Cons: * Your child will start signing their name like they own land * School notes will require translation services * You will begin questioning whether you ever truly understood handwriting Would I recommend it? Absolutely. Would I like to apologise to every teacher who now has to decipher my child’s “artistic interpretation” of the alphabet? Also yes.

Great
This is such a great book for my 5YO. He loves cursive writing. It has plenty of space to practice a single letter then words and sentences. Good pursuit.

Great value
My kids are 12 so technically a little old, but missed out on learning handwriting for various reasons. However, they have finally shown an interest and finding a book which wasn’t too childish seemed difficult, but this bridged the gap. Its substantial pagination and great price point make is a practical choice, especially as there’s always the risk the kids won’t take to it. This book has been a massive help, they are more or less teaching themselves with a little initial help. They went through doing a few lines of each letter before going back to the start to begin on the joined up words, which seemed to make more sense. But I can understand how having words interspersed would break up monotony. Having so many pages dedicated to practicing single capital letters seemed a bit pointless when they don’t join up to other letter and will have already been practiced plenty before kids reach this stage. One big criticism is the excessive Union Jack Branding and “England” as a word to practice. Very off putting and makes it irrelevant to a non-English market even within the UK. I would love if there was a follow up book with narrower rulings to encourage practice of smaller handwriting suitable for secondary education.

Good, but not so nice!
The book quality and the quantity of exercises are good. But not so happy with the type of calligraphy. Doesn’t look handwriting actually.
