Hatch Rest 2nd Gen Baby Sound Machine & Night Light (White)

We’ve been using the Hatch Rest since our baby was a newborn, and honestly, it’s become a non-negotiable part of our sleep routine. The brown noise is like magic - it helps drown out all the little household sounds and signals to our baby that it’s time to wind down. Now, when it’s on, she knows it’s bedtime. And honestly? It helps us sleep better too lol, but be careful in the very beginning with a new born - we slept TOOOO good due to lack of sleep and were lucky my mom was there to feed & change her because we were dead to the world. What we love: • The sounds are soothing - brown noise is our go-to, but there are lots of options if you want to switch things up. • App control is a lifesaver. I love the option of being able to adjust the volume, light, or turn it on/off from our phone means no tiptoeing into the nursery and being able todo it while rocking baby to sleep. Of course with conveniency there comes a price, which is a monthly subscription lol. • The brightness is adjustable which is good • It grows with your child. We haven’t used the OK-to-wake clock yet, but it’s nice to know it’ll still be useful once we’re out of the baby stage. • Reliable and easy to use. Once it’s set up, it’s very plug-and-play. We have a schedule set and rarely think about it - which is a huge win in the fog of early parenting. What could be better: • The app isn’t always perfect. Sometimes it’s slow to connect, or it randomly logs us out. When you’re holding a half-asleep baby and trying to turn down the volume quickly, this can be super annoying. • Sometimes when you go to touch it to turn it on or off it’s a little wonky, but for the most part it’s pretty spot on. • It’s pricey. If you’re on a budget, you can get a basic white noise machine for a lot less. But the Hatch’s features do add convenience. At the end of the day, this little machine is on every night (and every nap), and we truly rely on it. Yes, it has quirks, but the good far outweighs the bad. If you’re building a sleep routine, this can be a real game changer.

I don't write reviews for things I buy very often, but this little machine has changed my life so much that I have to. Whoever invented this should be nominated for the Nobel Prize. This thing is a miracle machine. My son is 20 months old and I can count the number of times that he slept through the night on one hand-- that is until about 3 weeks ago when we bought this machine. I saw the concept of an "ok to wake" alarm but was not sure if it would work for a kid as young as mine. Then I saw a review from a lady with an 18 month old who seemed to have a similar sleep pattern to my son. My son would wake up 3-4 times every night and need some degree of soothing to go back down. If he woke up after about 3-4 am (what we came to know as 'the witching hour'), there would be no hope of getting him to go deeply back to sleep and the best you could do was get him to lay down and nod off for 15 minute increments for as long as you could. That worked best with one of sleeping on the ground beside the crib. At some point, he would wake fully up, and at that point there would be no getting him back to sleep. You just had to wake up and start the day with him. We tried really hard to at least get him to 5 am, but it didn't always work. 5:30 was a stretch goal and 6 seemed like a near impossibility. Enter the hatch. I followed the procedure used by the lady whose review I read-- I set the alarm for 5:30 on the first night after having a talk with him before bed about how the red light meant it was time to sleep and green meant it was ok to wake up. When he woke up in the night, we told him over the baby monitor that the light was still red so he would need to lay down. To our surprise, he actually did after a few minutes. He whined a little bit but didn't start to cry like he normally would if we didn't go in the room. He woke up fully that morning before the light turned green and started crying out for us. Like the woman described, I reset the wake time for about 5 minutes out so he would not have to spend so long in distress. Then when the light turned green, I went in and made a big production of how the light was green so he could wake up. Each day I set the time a few minutes later until we finally got to where it is currently set-- 6:15. I'm not sure why, but he just gets it. It took a couple of weeks of him waking in the night and whining for us but going easily back to sleep when we tell him over the speaker that the red light means it's still night night time. After a few weeks of that he does it completely on his own. If he wakes up, he looks at the red light and just goes back to sleep. Most nights now he sleeps fully through the night and does not wake up until after 6. If he happens to wake up fully before it turns green, he lays down watching it until it turns green then pops up. He's sleeping so well that he's in a great mood when he wakes up. We are sleeping better than we have in a long time ourselves. The thing isn't perfect-- I find the app a little wonky thought it is reasonably easy to use. I think it's a bit difficult to change the routine or wake time while the current routine is running. When you try, it just turns the machine off. That's annoying if you are trying to make a change while he is sleeping. Some of the more advanced features like the stories and lullabies are a bit too complicated for our boy I think. We keep it simple with orange light and quiet music to wind down with books before bed, red light with the ocean sound effect for sleep (I recommend a pretty good volume) and green light to wake up (keeping the sound going so he won't be woken by the change in sound and will still sleep if his body wants to). If we start wanting to encourage him to wake up at a certain time I think I will have the sounds change to birds chirping. Long story short-- this thing changed our lives, and I just gifted one to a friend who is expecting a baby to give her the gift of sleep.

Fabulous! Stop scrolling and get this one. It's a little more expensive than others, but it is 100% worth it. There's an app for setting up the clock. Yay! It says to give about 10 minutes for set up. I played around with it a lot and had two schedules set up and ready to go in 15 minutes. I was able to program in different wake up times for different days of the week along with different amounts of play quietly time. (Please play quietly just a bit later on the weekend. This Mama needs it!) Music and color changes allow for alerting the kiddos between sleep time, play quietly, and okay to get up. You can adjust the volume and brightness of the light. Loud and bright on days we have places to be and quiet and dim on days we can sleep in a bit. Live in a place where they make you change the time an hour twice a year? No problem. The app has a button for that. Bam! The hour just changed. Schedule changes are super easy to adjust for. When I set my alarm I can go into the Hatch app and make any needed changes. There is a paid membership that you can add to your Hatch. I did not join or use any of the free trial. I was able to set up and use without adding anything. They do look pretty cute and I may become hooked after trying the 30 day free trial. Currently practicing restraint. For reference this isn't the first time-to-rise clock I've used. I purchased a cheaper clock a few years ago to teach my oldest when it was okay to get up when we transitioned her out of her crib. It had a sun and moon to tell her when she could get out of bed. My daughter was pretty good about following it, but making a change on it involved lots of button pushes in the right order. Changing the time on the clock, when it was okay to get up, etc. was too involved for me to keep up with everything I was hoping the clock could do. It became pretty basic use for weekends only. Also, kiddo #2 wasn't as observant of the moon vs. sun. This one needed something a bit more obvious.

*UPDATE* Since I wrote the review below, I have a new complaint that I am furious about. It is now denying me features that I previously had access to! I set up a rule for my daughter that when the rainbow colors turned on, she can get up out of bed. Now it's saying that I can't change the time for that schedule, because I now have to pay for that color. That is absolutely absurd and ridiculous to me, akin to stealing honestly. The older generation is still going strong and is so good, it's very disappointing that they are now getting greedy. It works, but it has some really really annoying quirks that will wake up your baby if you're not careful. I bought the original hatch rest about 4 and 1/2 years ago, and while it's slightly annoying that the physical controls are on the bottom, it works perfectly always. I can change the settings and save them and everything in the app and the hatch will not be change door affected unless I change it either on the app or physically, and it changes immediately. I bought this new hatch rest plus 2 years ago, and while it does seem to connect better and faster, and I like that it has a clock and the controls on the back, every time I save a program it turns off. So I can't edit it unless my baby's awake. Also, every once in awhile, the white noise will just stop working. And I'll say in the app that it's on, but it won't be until I really mess with it for a while. When I try and change the volume it has a major delay, so I click several times and instead of gradually turning down or up, It shoots to the volume I selected, sometimes scaring us with the sudden change. It also doesn't have as good of sounds as the original one did. It does work enough to still use and the touch ring on the top does work to switch them between them flawlessly. So we only control it with the touch ring, because if we try to use the app it has problems. I'm overall pretty disappointed with it.

Update: the Hatch seller is super responsive with concerns and quickly reached out to make things right. Although I was initially disappointed about subscriptions they have made things right. Due to the speediness and helpfulness of the company, I highly recommend and am now happy with my purchase Original review: This sound machine is super disappointing. With all of the positive reviews I expected it to include sounds, music, and soothing. With the price, I also expected for some features to be included. The design is sleek, I like the night light, and appreciate that the time is included on the front. Overall just about everything for this is locked and subscription based. I have basic white noise but can’t access songs, stories, or almost any other features in the app. With the cost of the machine I expect more to be included. I have two other white noise machines that work better with no subscription. I definitely prefer my Vtech over this and it is a fraction of the cost. Such a disappointing purchase.

I got this as a desperate mom of my third baby. We got it hoping it would help our three month old. Maybe coincidence, maybe not, but the night we got this she started sleeping better. We leave it on for naps and all through the night too, and we even sleep with it on too since it’s in our room. You just tap it to turn it on and to change through the different settings which is convenient when you have a baby in hand. It’s slim which is nice on a cluttered nightstand. The colors are all adjustable and there’s a bunch of sounds to choose from too. You can adjust the brightness of the light which is helpful. My baby is 7 months now and is conditioned to know it’s sleep time when we turn it on. We are thinking of getting a second one for our toddlers room to let him know when he can come out in the morning since it has been so helpful for our youngest. The only thing I’m not in love with is the app which is why I knocked a star off. Everything is app controlled it seems now which is problematic when it doesn’t work perfectly. I believe only one phone can hook up to it on the app and so since my husband is the one who originally set this thing up he is the only one who can control it it seems (maybe I’m wrong but in that case it’s just not easy to figure out which is still annoying). I got the app and it isn’t recognizing our hatch to connect to and I’m assuming it’s because it is already connected to his phone. That’s super annoying since I’m the primary person to put her down for bed and I can’t change settings on it. You can still turn it on just by pushing the top but color changes, brightness, volume, sound changes is all on the app. Otherwise we love this and if I can figure out how to make it so we can both use it on the app I’ll give it 5 stars.

So many features its hard to know where to begin. You can set schedules for sounds and light on this. This can be a night light and a sound machine. I have used the subscription and the free version and honestly dont think I got enough out of the premium subscription so the free version is amazing still! Honestly, my wife and I loved it so much we got one for our room after our baby went to his own room. Sound quality is great and a nice variety to choose from. Being able to control it form your phone is nice so you dont have to chance going into baby's room to make an adjustment.

We have been using the Hatch Sound Machine for our toddler since the day he was born, and it has been such a staple in our home that we recently purchased a second one for our baby who is due soon. One of the biggest advantages is that everything is connected through Bluetooth and controlled through the app. The app is very user-friendly and intuitive, even if you’re not tech-savvy. There are many free sounds to choose from, and I love that you can save favourites with the exact volume and light colour you want. For sleep, we use white noise with a red light, and we have it scheduled so that at a certain time in the morning the light turns green and calm music plays. This has been amazing for helping our toddler understand when it’s time to sleep and when it’s okay to get up. It’s made mornings much smoother for everyone. Another feature we really appreciate is being able to control both sound machines through the same app. It’s so convenient to adjust volume, sounds, or lighting without needing to go into the room and risk waking a sleeping child — something you can’t easily do with many similar products. If you prefer not to use the app, the buttons on the back work perfectly fine as well. My toddler is even able to use it independently now that he’s out of the crib — tapping the top ring to turn it on and holding it to turn it off. Overall, this sound machine has been reliable, easy to use, and incredibly helpful for establishing sleep routines. We’ve had ours for years and it’s still working perfectly. Highly recommend, especially for families with young children.

Always wanted to get one with my first baby. I got to get one with second and absolutely love it. Being able to see the clock is brilliant. Still figuring things out as it arrived today but so far so good. My newborn slept within seconds each nap. Also thanks for quick delivery 🙌🏼
