The Blood Covenant is the most solemn, binding agreement possible between two parties. Perhaps one of the least understood, and yet most important and relevant factors in the covenant relationships that God has chosen to employ in His dealings with man, is the blood covenant. This covenant of life and death spans the entire sacrificial system of the Old Testament, and is the basis for the act of Communion in the Church today. โThe author seems to prove beyond a doubt that the blood covenant is one of the most ancient and universal institutions. This idea is founded on the representation familiar to Old Testament scholars, that the blood stands for life.โ In this volume, which has been sold out and unavailable for generations, you will find truths that will bless every pastor, every teacher, every serious Christian desiring a deeper knowledge of God and His covenants with man. Review: Concise explanation of the seemingly universal idea of blood covenanting. - The author gives a very compelling discussion for the reason that most if not all cultures practice some sort of blood covenant. The author also illustrates that the reason for the universal idea of blood covenanting can be tied to the "original" blood covenant discussed throughout the Bible. Jesus Christ, more correctly, gave of his life. The life of the flesh is in the blood. It is the giving of life that should be the central focus instead of the taking of life. Review: Five Stars - Excellent in every way. a Must read.

The Blood Covenant
We have been studying Kay Arthur's "The Covenant God". She has been referring Trumbell's book and it has helped us to understand the Covenant order of God. Even though it is an older book, the material is true.

Great Book.
I am a theology student and read this book for a class on Covenants. The book does an excellent job of explaining the origins and practices of a Blood-Covenant, becoming "Blood Brothers" and how blood has been used the world over for centuries in regards to all humankind and not just in the biblical era. The language is a little hard to follow and is from the journals of an 1800's theologian so be prepared to encounter language like you would in the King James Bible (which is why I gave it only 4 stars). The examples are ubiquitous so you get the extent of what he is saying about it being a world-wide phenomena so it can get boring at times, but one can easily skim when they want. Better too many examples and cases than not enough. A rough read but great at explaining the act of Blood-Covenants and its origin.

Critical for deeper understanding of the Bible
You should read this if you want to understand more about the blood covenant. First hundred plus pages are about instances of the blood covenant in cultures around the globe. After that Trumbull turns his attention more to what will directly help you understand the Bible on a deeper level.
