Absolutely the best quality
Thirty years ago I bought a simple 2-pocket, front zipper canvas no-sleeve vest by Carhartt. It was made in Vietnam. That vest has no tears, no zipper problem, and the Sherpa fleece is intact. That Carhartt experience plus recommendation from family encouraged me to buy a new jacket by Carhartt. In the Pacific NW, I spend plenty of time outdoors, more doing yard work and auto or home repair than for play. Finding this jacket online took me at least an hour, but it was time well spent! My priorities were quality of materials and quality fabrication, with functionality and style tied for second place. This jacket hit all the Yes buttons. It fits perfectly, feels and looks extremely well made, and it has pockets galore, with great fasteners. The zipper is heavy duty! I expect the jacket to last thirty years. People who rarely praise my apparel say this Carhartt looks really great on me. It should, since it IS great. I agree with others who say the fit is just slightly big. Mine is 3XL, and has enough slack so I could wear a sweater between shirt and jacket on subfreezing days. It has wrist cuffs that are unseen while being worn, but keep the wind from blowing up a sleeve. The only tiny flaw for me is that the hood, though very comfortable, isn't detachable. It warms my head, neck and ears well. My personal preference is the ability to not always have the bulk of a hood behind me. This in no way would discourage me from buying a second jacket, nor does it discourage me from giving a strong buy recommendation. BTW, this jacket was made in Indonesia. Packaging was a generous 2-stars. My purchase was crammed in a thin walled carton, which bulged from the pressure. I opened the box with a very sharp knife. Had I not been very deliberate and cautious, I could have cut the jacket. If I could give the jacket six stars I would!

Will probably outlast me *Usage Update*
Usage Update - First snowfalls and cold temps of Winter '25-'26 I got this coat (I don't think "jacket" does it justice) towards the tail end of Winter '24 - '25, so I'm putting it through its paces this Winter. First off, this garment rates a "2" on Carhartt's 1 to 4 Warmth Rating Scale. Don't let that scare you off. I am really curious about their warmer rated outerwear, because this coat is pretty decently warm alone, and layering underneath significantly improves it. I layered an Amazon Essentials lightweight puffer coat underneath, and was comfortable shoveling snow in 19 F weather. The elbow pleats and shoulder gussets make maneuvering snow removal tools easier. The choice of buttons and or the zipper is a plus. I button it when I'm driving, keeping the lower couple buttons open. In windy weather, I zip and button it. And I really love the hood, because it's on the smallish side, cradles my noggin in sherpa, and doesn't feel like I'm wearing a pillow case over my head. If you have a larger sized head, and use the hood, this may be this garment's main negative for you. Me, I couldn't be happier with this coat. Here's my original review: I've been eyeballing Carhartt gear for some time, and I finally went ahead and got this Carhartt Utility (aka Bartlett) jacket. Really nice. I think they thought this out well, and nailed making it look stylish while still keeping it a genuine work coat. I just had to get the 'Moss' color but I couldn't find that color in a regular medium, so after reading many of the reviews, I took a chance and ordered the medium tall. I'm about 5'10"ish, around 160lbs and the medium tall actually fits my torso quite well. Not a crazy amount of extra material, and yet enough room to accommodate a low profile puffer vest when needed. The drop hem in back goes just a little past my butt, so as someone else mentioned here, the medium tall drapes the backside like a parka, which is going to be appreciated on cold, gusty days here in MI. The sleeves are where I really notice the difference between 'medium' and 'medium tall' - I have slender arms, and so the cuffs on the medium tall do extend over my hands a bit more than I'm used to, but again, I'd rather have them a bit longer than shorter. Other reviewers had remarked that the hand pockets were shallow, but I can comfortably fit my medium/large hands inside them, even wearing some medium thickness gloves. I really like the hood. As others mentioned it's not humongous, and sits well on the back of the coat. I don't have a very large noggin, and the hood covers my head nicely - I will actually use it! It's got the must-have zippered inner pocket, and I like that the velcroed pocket on the opposite side isn't too fiddly. Some folks also commented about the zipper not being robust enough. Yes, it could be bigger (and had a double pull, while we're wishing), but I don't think it's unreasonably small. For short jaunts I'll probably be relying on the snaps more. What makes it a true work coat? Triple stitching at all of the stress points, pleats at flex points on the shoulders and elbows, and reinforced cuffs. Certainly not an inexpensive piece of outerwear, but as Daddy always told me, 'you get what you pay for', and it will probably outlast me. :)

Love the jacket but you never know what size a Carhartt will be
I like Carhartt products but often have a problem with sizing. I'm 5'9"/190 lb. medium build; pretty average. I ordered the extra large and the fit was good but the length was noticeably short in the waist (4" or more) which also made the pockets ride high. So I order XL Long and it was way too large all the way around. Ended up getting a Large Long which did the trick. Have had this problem with their hoodies as well. Sometimes you think you got an item made for someone with a drinking problem (beer belly). As far as the jacket goes I like it a lot. Pockets could be deeper, but it will keep me warm and ride out the cold weather well. It should last a very long time. It's listed as a top seller.

Superb modern jacket with old school comfort and durability.
Great fit all around for me, 2XL. 6' 235lbs, wide shoulders and thick chest. Plenty warm, room for layers underneath makes it very adaptable for multi-season use. Fairly light for the level of warmth and durability. Great mobility too! Same high quality gear as the originals I purchased 30 years ago, with modern touch & updates.

This is a good one.
This is an excellent coat. Highly recommended. Fit: I’m 6’1”, 220lbs, broad across the chest and shoulders and the regular XL fits great. I saw some concerns about the length but I think it’s probably a personal preference thing. The front hits me a couple inches below the waist and the back is a bit longer. Warmth: I wore this jacket with just a t-shirt in the upper 30’s with heavy wind and felt fine. It blocks the wind very well and it was warm without being hot. Quality: This coat is well made and it looks great. The front hand pockets are a little awkward (they are lined thankfully) but nothing close to a dealbreaker. My other Carhartt jacket is 30 years old and going strong. I’ll let you know if this one makes it that long. Overall I’m very happy.

Perfect Fit, Great Jacket.
I was conflicted between the small and medium size, but I took a chance on the small, even know I normally wear mediums in hoodies and other jackets. I based my size off of a Wrangler work jacket I recieved last year for Christmas that was a size medium. Unfortunately, that jacket was a bit too big, for the sleeves went far past my wrists and the shoulder seams went too far past the end of my shoulder. It felt too bulky as well. So for this Carharrt I took a chance on the size small and didn't regret it. It fit perfect; the shoulder seams lined up and the sleeves covered my wrists perfectly. The length was good as well without it extending too low below my hips. I was even able to wear my favorite hoodie underneath it without the jacket feeling constrained and arm movement still feeling spacious. Keep in mind I have a relatively small frame, anyway so your mileage may vary. I asked my dad to try the jacket on, who is an inch shorter than me and has a more athletic build with slightly bigger shoulders, and it fit him perfect as well. The jacket itself feels high quality and will definitely hold up to some wear and the sherpa will definitely keep you warm. It's now probably the best jacket I've ever owned with plenty of pockets and a lightweight feel to the overall coat. Highly recommend if your considering it, for it is a solid alternative if the Detroit jacket lacks too little features for you.

Worth the name brand cost
Great, warm, heavy coat! But doesn't feel excessively bulky. Blocks wind well and light rain. Looks great, I've received several compliments. The fit is great for me (xl, long) even though I have rather long arms. I bought two cheaper coats, which I had to return (one fit weird, the other had a cheap zipper that broke in less than a week) before landing on this one. This coat's quality is worth the extra cost. But, if you have pets, this coat is a fur magnet! I always immediately hang it in the closet when I come home, but it ALWAYS has cat and dog fur clinging to it no matter what. So it's a bit of a pain to keep it looking clean. Also, the inside left breast pocket opens from the side, rather than the top, which is a bit weird at first.

Warm and comfortable!
First impression of this jacket is AMAZING! It looks and feels AWESOME! Very impressed with both the quality and sturdy feel of the jacket. I will update my review after I have gotten thru a few cold mornings, however I am very hopeful that it will be a great experience!

Väldigt nöjd
Bra kvalitet. Bra pris.

The jacket I always wanted
I'm 5'11 225lbs muscular build. I ordered the XL tall. I live in Ottawa Canada so I needed a warm roomy coat like this. These reviews on here are all over the place and very inaccurate, some people say it's too big, it's too small . It's tough to go by all these *cough* wonderful *cough* reviews. For reference I wear large size t shirts from Walmart. I got an XL tall because L tall was sold out. The length of the coat is perfect but the sleeves are a bit long on me, I feel like the standard would have been too short on the coat as many have said, but the sleeves would have been better so pros and cons there. I'm not super tall but I wanted a longer coat. I would have preferred the large no doubt in my mind but I'm not swimming in the XL. It fits just how an XL jacket should fit. Next time I will get large, no biggie. Jackets are always going to be a bit bigger than t shirt sizes to allow for layering you silly people. Duh. The material is nice and tough the lining is very nice. The zipper is good quality. The front pockets are for HANDS not GEAR(stuff will fall out sideways) The strings to adjust the hood have an interesting design. The little beads you squeeze to choke up on the strings and keep them from moving are actually hidden inside the trim of the coat which is a classy little feature, they aren't swinging like every other coat out there. The gussets on the back of the shoulders allow full movement, you are not constricted in any way. The elastic in the cuffs is pretty tight but should loosen over time. Overall it's a fantastic jacket and I really have no real complaints. It's beautiful and built exceptionally well. I will have to see how long it will last. I'm a mason and work outside often in the winter so that will be a good test to the longevity of this coat and I will report back here when it receives damage for you guys. I have had bad experiences with Carhartt pants. The pants are so expensive and they did not last in my trade at all. Better off going dickies at half the price FOR PANTS that's just my opinion on that. I will be buying the Bartlett again 100%. At the $174 I paid here on Amazon I think I the quality surpasses the price.

Bon investissement.
