I have 2 licenses for pcm pro; love it. but, not for every stinking little file transfer. can the cable transfer a file w/o running the app?

The answer is ‘no’ BUT such a cable is available. The cable type you want has several names: ‘bridged USB cable’, ‘networking USB cable’, and ‘USB Pc to Pc cable’. Both PC’s want to be the master USB device and some electronics is needed in the middle to negotiate this. The pc-to-pc cable is available here on Amazon.

Does the laplink usb 3.0 transfer cable also transfer programs when there is no software disks available, and can it transfer selectively?

I Used the cable with laplink software to move to another computer and it transferred all programs. worked great. do not know about individual programs only. Joe

Yes, however you'll need to get a link to download PCmover Pro v10 from Laplink's 24 hour live chat. The latest version of PCmover v11, only supports network transfers from XP to higher. If you want XP to XP, or in your case XP to Windows 7 via USB, you'll just need a different link to download the software and a valid PCmover Pro Serial number.
