how do you know what piece is what grit?

The grit number is on the back of each piece.

Will this work to smooth glass?

No, this is sandpaper and will scratch glass surface, so unless ur talking bout edges it may work at 120 -180 grit, you didn;t give nuff info of what type of glass smoothing. remember the lower the grit the more coarse/ruff it is. In my wood crafting I use 60 & 80 grit to get wood ready for 120 grit final smooth prior to stains or polyurethane coating. whatever ur need in glass, if edges, try 80 on a scrap piece, then 120 for final state b4 on reg job. Is this alkali resistant?

I am sorry do not know the answer, but I like the sandpaper for making and finishing pens.

Is this C weight paper back8ng or something lighter?

C weight as far as I know, its handles tough sanding jobs and is def not A or B, the 60, 80, & even 120 grits i get at Amazon are top grade. you'll be very satisfied is my opinion. good luck my friend

My husband and I recently refinished and honed our black granite countertops. We did the bulk of the work with an angle grinder and 5 inch diamond pads however, there were some residual swirl marks and scratches that we needed to remove. I watched several YouTube videos that offered a variety of solutions and one of them Was to use wet dry Sandpaper. This sandpaper was just as described and seemed to be good quality. The sandpaper did not fall apart when wet and was fairly durable. It didn’t do much to remove the swirl marks and scratches on the granite countertops, but that’s not the fault of the sandpaper. I just don’t think it was the right material for our job.

Pretty sharp and durable dry, but the paper is not completely waterproof. Used for wet sanding, the paper degrades long before the abrasive wears out. Recommended, with caveats.
