Good Product.
After trying other cheaper brands, well, this 3M product is worth every penny. One side helps to reduce glare (matte); the other makes the text look sharper and easier to read (gloss - iMac look). You choose. I placed small pieces of the double sided strips provided on corners to fix the screen. Privacy is perfect using either side. You need to make sure you have the correct length/width before ordering, though - do NOT trust the display overall diagonal measure! These screens are roughly as thick as an X-Ray plate; I do not know how they would work on a laptop, though.

A wonderful solution if rubber-neckers annoy you
This filter prevents people seeing what's on your screen, and it does its job well. Although the plastic filter does seem to reduce screen quality a tiny bit the lack of annoyance from people staring at your screen in public places makes it more than worth while. The filter is attached by a few plastic tabs that stick on the space around your screen. I don't know if this works on all laptops but I didn't have any problems. If you are annoyed by people trying to read your emails or watch your movies get one of these.

Does what is says however implemented in the worst possible way.
After trying hard to like this product, especially having spent 30 odd pounds for a product that looks like it was made back when laptops had parallel ports, I have to express my extreme dissatisfaction with it. Firstly there is the model number etched into the filter at the top right. This makes looking at any windows title bar extremely annoying. There is no reason other than advertising that this label had to be permanently etched in (rather than a simple sticker) The next issue is the little carved out thumb whole on the sheet. This is more of a minor annoyance but having a spot on the screen where its really bright is very distracting. The final and biggest complaint is the tacky, disgusting, useless little sticky strips they give to stick around the laptop screen to old the plastic in place. There are just not enough words to describe how utterly pathetic these are and how bad an eyesore these are. I could never recommend this product to anyone who needs to look at their laptop on a daily basis.

Don't expect too much
The screen may be fine for most 17" laptops but is not really suitable for the MacBook Pro Unibody. Pros: 1) The filter does prevent people seeing data on your screen 2) the filter has a gloss and a matt side so you can use it to reduce the glare on your screen ( main reason I purchased it was to reduce the glare on my Macbook pro) 3) Is removable (the tabs do get a bit loose if you do this too often, and you will get finger prints all over it) 4) the quality of the plastic seems to be fairly good Cons: 1)The connectors that hold the filter in place look VERY cheap and tacky, on a sexy laptop in this, it looks like a do-it-yourself job. 2)If you have a high "dots per square inch" (DPI) resolution (like this17 inch screen) you will notice the separation of red green and blue, so it looks like a bit like you're looking through some kind of multicolour mesh. So not great during graphics or colour matching work. Does not produce the gauss effect so much for lower DPI screens, just tried it on my Samsung monitor. 3) There is a small piece cut out at the bottom of the filter so it looks a bit odd (its to help you remove the filter off the screen, still duff design) 4) I had to keep my screen on maximum brightness to match my previous monitor setting of 50%. 5) The battery life gets reduced by about 30% due to extra power consumption required to keep screen bright enough. Overall it does what it says on the tin but don't expect it to do it in style or efficiency. It doesn't fit the MacBook Pro well (wasn't expecting it either), I purchased it to reduce the glare on the screen without having to put the films on it and it does that well. In short, buy it but don't expect too much from it, if you want a privacy filter this is fine, as a basic anti glare this will also works for non high dpi screens. Its a little pricey for what seems like some sort of polarised plastic, but hey, most of us can't make them at home for less then what you pay for this.

Close, but the tabs need help
This is a quality product, but I do have mixed feelings. The sticky tabs that hold it on worked for a few days and then just started falling off - in the end, they're pretty useless. I'm now using extra-strong post-it notes to keep the screen held onto my Apple monitor, which of course looks silly. As far as the functions of removing glare and creating privacy, that works well enough. It doesn't remove all the glare, but it certainly helps on reflective monitors, and the privacy filter is about as good as could be expected. Overall, I'd say they could seriously improve how the screen is held on... for this price, it's a bit crazy that it ends up as just a sheet that you have to MacGyver on yourself.

FIT FOR PURPOSE Screen clear for me, black for train passengers next to me
I've seen others have these same screens for their work laptops, on the train. I could not see their screens at all when sitting beside them. Purchased for my own laptop. When working I can't notice the filter, even with brightness on low. Yet people beside me can't see my screen. Works great! WELL RECOMMENDED! have not tried GOLD VERSION

Great
The glare can be strong but I like that it had the self adhesive stickers for your laptop to make it removable easily.

This was a perfect fit for my 24 inch monitor. Very good privacy filter.

These were a necessity for my organization's HR Specialist as her workspace is in an area with more traffic than would be desired. These provide ample privacy for her displays as almost any movement from center obscures the screen. Installation was straight forward; each filter included several strips of double-sided tape. This was applied near each edge of the inner side of the filter and the it was attached directly to the LCD surface. Adhesive tape was not my optimal choice for installation, but the tape is generally not noticed. I have not had any instance to remove theses filters, so I do not know if there is any difficulty in removing the adhesive.
