I'm going to use the rear entry hole. Is what size of grommet will I need to waterproof this?

I was dismayed to find that no grommets (O rings) were supplied with this socket as required by law to protect the electrics. I was unable to purchase grommets on Easter Sunday so had to use builder's silicone to waterproof the socket. An electrical shop should be able to advise you what size grommets are needed to fit the rear entry hole if you take the socket with you.

Do i need a separate rcd for this

No but it is good working practice I think to install a 13 amp fused spare inside before you run cable through to the new unit outside if your connection is on a wall say 2 metres away I would use steal wired armoured cable hope this helps

Can anyone tell me is this item white as the description says or is it grey and black ?

The sockets are white, the surrounds are grey and the cover is black.

Would this be suitable for embedding in soil (power led xmas lights on garden trees)?

The waterproof external double electric socket would be ideal on a wooden post, which could be cemented into the ground; make sure the post is a good 24 inches out of the ground and treated...ideal for xmas lights and caravan or anything that takes your fancy really!
