Perixx PERIBOARD-407 Compact USB Keyboard, 11 Multimedia Keys, Easy Setup, Piano Black, UK Layout

This is a great little keyboard ! Highly recommended, 5 stars ! Great for one hand typing, it has big clear lettering, a nice positive feel to the key presses, all the necessary keys and none of the ones I don't need ! All the keys are consistently sensitive and responsive and the lettering is big and clear which makes it perfect for typing in low light. I quickly got used to the size and spacing of the keys and now only a few hours later I would not want to go back to that old Logitech KB ! Key spacing is very slightly tighter than STD spacing but it's a great KB to type on especially if you prefer to type with one hand like me. It's not at all clattery or creaky like some KB's, I do like the slightly muted sound of the keys. It has all of the important keys such as Left CTRL, Right CTRL, left and right Shift keys, Delete, Insert, Home, and End Keys and a good sized well placed Enter key plus full size Arrow keys, most compact keyboards don't ! I'm replacing my old Logitech keyboard because it's noisy, clattery, creaky, hard to see the letters in low light and some of the keys are getting a little sticky, I found myself making more and more typo's and having to correct them which makes typing a bit of a chore. I have been wanting to replace it for some time and had this one on my wish list for months while I searched for a replacement. It had to be small because I use it on my lap not on a desk and I wanted something that would feel right, it also had to have really good customer reviews, this was a great choice ! UPDATE, 3 years later it has given me no issues whatsoever ! It has been dropped on the floor dozens of times, I have sometimes trodden on the cable when standing up and it got dragged off my lap and it still works like new, the cable is undamaged and there are no signs of it pulling out ! One of the biggest benefits is that the gaps between the keys are too small for crumbs and dust so you don't have to clean out under the keys, the HP keyboards I use at work are terrible by comparison !

OK, I literally only just opened the box 15 minutes ago so it's probably not the best time to be writing a review. Nevertheless, I am typing this review now, on the Perixx Periboard-407b in black, because I am so impressed with it! It's exactly what I was looking for, in the sense that it has really nice keys, with just the right amount of resistance... not like many regular membrane boards that are very low profile and you only have to tickle the keys. This has keys that are mid-height profile and very solid and stable, giving it a very tactile feel. Ok the case is plastic, but it is impressively quiet. Better than any 'branded' full sized keyboards I've used in the past. I was thinking of purchasing a mechanical keyboard with either red or brown switches for between £50 & £100, but after trying them out at the stores a couple of days ago, I realised that wasn't the way to go. I'm sure they're great, but i'm not a touch typist (or a gamer), and have exclusively used a laptop for the last 10 years, so I needed something that was lower profile, but with the same tactile feeling of mechanical keyboard. I found it after reading other review here. And the reviews were spot on. I work in customer support, and they have full-sized keyboards at work, which means that the mouse is in an incredibly uncomfortable position, which gives me repetitive strain in my fingers, up my hand and all up my arm to my shoulder. This effectively 73% sized keyboard is only 2.8cm wider than the POK3R 3 mechanical keyboard I was going to buy, which is touted as a 60% board. This one is actually the exact same width as my MacBook Air 13" (see the picture). Other things I like about this keyboard is that it has static rubberised feet, not flimsy fold-out feet at the back that are easy to break, making this feel solid and stable. It docent slide on my kitchen granite top, but I'll test it on my work desk later, but I imagine it's pretty unmovable. OK, it's a windows-centric keyboard, but I'm using it on my MacBook and it works absolutely fine. On the plus side, it doesn't default to Numlock on, like is usually does on Windows machine (apparently, according to what i've read). In fact, I can't even get the Numlock to operate using FN+Numlk keys. No biggie though, who even uses that. So considering it wasn't designed for a Mac, and considering other people have posted here that it doesn't work on a Mac (that's BS), I am pretty impresses with how it has performed. It even allows me to control the brightness and volume keys. My only gripe is that they didn't install a usb port for a mouse connection, or USB stick, but aside from that I think for £15, how can you go wrong with a product like this. Let's hope it lasts more than a few months before the keys start to fail (as some other people on here have testified) because I won't be able to return it for a replacement as I am in Cyprus. On the plus side, I ordered it on Monday night, and received it Wednesday afternoon via UPS even though it was estimated to arrive tomorrow. Just in time for tonight's shift at work... winner! (OK UPS option was £11.50, but still worth it).

Needed a keyboard as I'd moved my laptop to a stand, and when I'm typing while on video calls, the whole thing wobbled. Had a cheapo compact keyboard in a box, but soon found out it didn't have a backspace, PrtSC or # keys- all of which I use. Plus it was hard to use properly. Bought this keyboard, and it's great! Keys are just right in sponginess, it has the keys I need, UK layout, and it's just lovely to use. It's not backlit, but that's a minor quibble and at this price-point, not surprised. It was just plug and play, it's a nice compact size and fits on my limited space desk very nicely. Definitely recommended!

I’ve been using my new keyboard for two weeks – didn’t want to give feedback too soon. I use the keyboard for work in my office at home with it connected to my laptop (Lenovo Laptop with Windows 7). It gets used pretty much every day, including typing for substantial documents as well as the usual email, web forms and general use. The big positive for me after two weeks is that my mouse is now much closer to my right hand (I’m right handed). This purchase was to get a keyboard without the number pad and other keys which are at the right side on a standard keyboard. As a result my mouse use feels more comfortable as the reaching and stretching for my mouse has reduced. I am hoping that the arm and wrist discomfort I was having reaching for my mouse, due to the position of the number pad and other keys to the right side, will now fully resolve. For the keyboard itself: The keys seem to work well. I like the feel of them. Although the keys appear to be a little further apart than a standard keyboard I think that this might just be an optical illusion because of the key shape and there is a visible part of keyboard between the keys rather than on the standard keyboard I had where I could see the bottom of the keys all next to each other. The key strokes are a little noisier than my standard keyboard (an hp) but not a problem. The ‘number lock’ was easily switched off using ‘Fn’ key and the ‘NumLk’ key and it hasn’t come back on as a ‘default’ setting. The keyboard is a little thinner and lower, with a flatter angle, than my previous keyboard. I use a gel wrist pad in front of the keyboard and it felt as if I’d need to do something to adjust the height and angle of the keyboard, so I did – positioning the front edge of the keyboard on the lip of my wrist support pad and the rear feet /edge of the keyboard on the front of my laptop (which is closed and flat in its docking station) has given an increase in overall height and a slightly greater tilt which is feeling more comfortable. Whilst I am not that fast I use a ‘touch-typing’ style with forefinger resting on ‘F’ and ‘J’ for left and right hand respectively and other fingers covering centre line keys and moving from there with the thumbs on the space bar (space bar is big enough for both my man sized thumbs). I’m already getting used to the slightly different arrangement for the ‘Insert’, ‘Delete’, ‘Home’, ‘Page Up’, ‘Page Down’ and ‘End’ keys. So after two weeks of work use this is looking like a good purchase. I might even take the delivery film off the keyboard now.

Purchased this as needed a small keyboard to use with a laptop as that keyboard stopped working. Nice size when opened knowing it would fit in my back pack. Opened up and all looked good, plugged in, had power started typing so far so good, until I got to the number 0, defective, didn’t work what so ever, bagged back up and returned. I ordered a different keyboard but same brand thinking I’d been unlucky. Second one has come, opened up and plugged in and whole keyboard doesn’t work. Another return! Avoid!

I bought this for my main workstation, as I have got tired of wireless keyboards missing key presses etc. I wanted something that wouldn’t take up too much space as I also have a graphics tablet and a Tourbox controller (for photo editing). This one fits the bill perfectly, it is reasonably small and the keys have a good positive action.

* Update - was 5 stars but after using it for 4 months all the numbers and letters smudged away. I had to buy stickers to glue on which works a while but it looks tacky and dirty. * Just what I wanted. Full size keyboard without the number pad on the right. It's very pretty (in white) and well built. Really happy with it

I am a software engineer and type 8+ hours a day, so I wanted an ergonomic mini keyboard with a low profile and a standard UK layout and apparently this keyboard is one of few keyboards out there that ticks all these boxes. The only non-standard thing in this keyboard is that because they squeezed the arrow keys right below the enter keys, the right shift is shorter and it's actually the up-arrow key that is placed immediately under the enter key (not the long shift), but so far I did not have any problems with this (I thought I would). The layout of this keyboard is almost identical to that of old pre-numpad UK Toshiba Satellite L300 laptop (sigh), which I think was perfect. I just find it very difficult to see any reason why other vendors decide to customise the layout so that their users are no longer able to use "normal" keyboards efficiently afterwards and there will always be context switching involved - I think it's counterproductive. Anyway, back to this keyboard, it has very low profile, short key path and a very low actuation force (lower then most membrane keyboards IMHO). I have a Das Keyboard Ultimate soft-clicky, and in terms of actuation force it's very similar - and together with the shorter key travel and no numpad wasted space - it's a very comfortable little keyboard. I have had the keyboard for one day only, but I'm very pleased with the purchase so far. Some of the multimedia keys that are supposed to work with Fn button (eg. play, volume +/-, etc) are NOT working on in OSX and mostly either have no function or some other function not in accordance with the icon on the button, so if it's important to you please be warned. Update: It's been some time since I've bought this keyboard and I am still very happy with it. Overtime the keys got a bit less steady, so I switched to Lenovo Thinkpad as my main keyboard and use this one only as a travel keyboard. Also I had to re-glue all the rubber legs after some time, since the factory glue got liquid and messy at some point. But still, after couple of years of using it as my main keyboard, I can say it's a great keyboard expecially considering its price. I am pretty sure it's the best keyboard in this price range.
