Busy, busy, busy
Iโm a beginner here but wanted a machine that can take me from this stage and to help me build skill and experience. Iโm pretty sure this is it and Iโve been really enjoying getting started. It was easy to set up and to work out. The instructions were pretty clear. The quality is of a lightweight yet robust model. Lots of stitch variety and all the basic accessories Iโm going to need so far. I did have a fuse go and wrote to customer support. They responded within the hour which was really impressive. All in all, I love this machine and I would highly recommend. Great value for money.

Nice machine
I am a total, absolute novice at sewing. I bought this machine as it was on a 'Black Friday' Amazon deal as I know nothing about sewing machines so don't know whether one is 'better' than another or not. It comes with both an instruction manual and an instructional DVD. In order to get the machine ready for sewing I had to use both. I tried just watching the DVD and pausing it every few seconds to do what was shown but in some cases I couldn't work out what was being shown because it wasn't shown in close up. I had to look at the diagrams in the manual - especially about threading the needle and picking up the lower thread. Note to Brother if you read this review - for the DVD show some very close up video footage of threading the needle and picking up the bottom thread. It is a little fiddly threading the needle and I had to use a torch to get sufficient light on to it so I could see the holes through which to thread. To wind the lower bobbin and thread it all ready for sewing initially took me just over 30 minutes from when I had it all unpacked. Note that there is already a lower bobin in place which you can take out and use - rather than using a spare one that came separately. I only found this out when I came to put the wound lower bobbin in place and found one there! The instructions and the DVD don't tell you this. Once you know what you are doing with threading the machine, it should take no longer than about 5 - 10 minutes to rewind the lower bobbin and re-thread the machine ready for use. In use, I found it fairly easy to sew using the basic stitches (which is what I wanted it for). The foot pedal controlled the speed fine and pulling the material through whilst it's sewing was fairly easy. The problem I had was keeping the material straight as it was fed through - as there's no guide rail to keep things straight. It did miss a lot of stitches on one particular piece of material I sewed but I put this down to how I was using it and not always keeping the material flat and taunt under the needle (I said I was a novice!). Repeating the sew where it had missed worked OK. In summary, this seems a decent sewing machine for the beginner but the initial threading is fairly fiddly to undertake.

Brilliant machine for home use
It just arrived and I was surprised by how easy it is to set up. I had some expecting with an old Singer machine and this seems a piece of cake in comparison! It's lightweight and it doesn't take to much space and it has a pleasant appearance. I tried it right away with a cotton t shirt and I was able to tailor it in half an hour. Straight and zig zag stitch worked pretty well on the elastic material. It's not to noisy and the pedal has a nice control. Also I'll mention that arrived in three days and because I bought it with an offer it has a great value for money. It's a brilliant machine for beginners and home users.
