Is this product similar to sainsbury's own brand sweet and tender coconut?

no, Sainsbury's coconut is tiny, Bakers are large coconut flakes that are very moist and sweet, there is nothing else like it anywhere that matches the bakers brand. I haven't found anyone who stocks it here, only in the USA its so gorgeous!

How long is the sell by dates

Hello, I bought this product in Sept 2020, the use by date on packet is Sept 2021. I haven't used any yet but it looks nice quality but I must admit I was shocked at the very small amount I received for the price. Once used these will be the most expensive coconut macaroons on earth!

Can i use this to decorate the top and sides of a coconut cake or will it start to render liquid when it contact with cream cheese icing?

It is great stuff, very sweet and does not melt, but it is a little wet so may cause some problems, although I use it as a topping to glace icing. You could use dessicated coconut.

Is this shredded coconut and not desiccated?

It is shredded and sweetened and slightly moist. Perfect for making buns.
