This RSPB-endorsed book is a practical, exciting and comprehensive introduction to watching birds, for children aged 8-12 years. Lavishly illustrated throughout with full-colour photographs and paintings, it begins by discussing general birding - where to go and when, what equipment to take with you, tips on attracting birds to your garden, how to take field notes etc. The second half of the book comprises a field guide to more than a hundred and thirty of the commonest species of Britain and Ireland, using clear illustrations backed up by concise, straightforward text describing key identification points, such as behaviour, voice and habitat. This informative and lively book will greatly enhance children's enjoyment of birdwatching, and will help to engender a lifetime of enthusiasm for birds and birding. Review: Childrens Bird Watching Guide - Bought this for my 6 year old daughter along with some binoculars. She loves the book...she has been able to easily identify various birds in our garden and loves the information in the book. She understands the information and has great fun trying to imitate the birds call (as described in the book). Definitely recommended for budding enthusiasts. Review: Encouraging an interest in ornithology. - This wee book has helped our grandson expand and develop his growing love of birds. My only issue is the birds are not alphabetical. But it doesnโt bother him. Heโs 9 years old.

Nice little book
Great book for a child - I think it just needs more for them to find picture wise because the list at the back is far greater than the pictures inside so confusion sprang to my little one after a while.

Great starter book!
Perfect for 6 year old and his granda to bird watch together. Good illustrations. More detailed and better laid out than many other similar books but still very accessible by younger readers.

Excellent book. I gave it to my seven year ...
Excellent book. I gave it to my seven year old grandson with binoculars made by a specialist binocular company that produces a version for children. Dan is the sort who loves bugs and insects and birds. A few months earlier he'd borrowed a pair of my binnies to get a close-up view of a snail. Unfortunately he dropped them with the inevitable result. That's why I bought him these for Christmas. The magnification is good, they fit his hand and they're robust. He was very pleased, all the more so because he wasn't expecting them. And immediately he pulled the book out of the wrapping paper, he spent at least a quarter of an hour reading it. Result!!!

It is a perfect Christmas present for our 9 year old granddaughter
Initially I felt disappointed with the size of the book but in hindsight realised it was perfect for taking out whilst exploring the great outdoors as it is a perfect size to fit into a backpack

Good guidelines.
Bought this book for my 9 year old grandaughter who was just becoming interested in bird watching. She loves it and has been going through it to identify birds in her garden and finding out tips on what to feed them. She loves drawing too, so has taken inspiration from the illustrations and photographs to copy them for her own note book.
