Onkyo TX-SR444 Receiver

Having been using an Onkyo av amp for a number of years and been impressed. When it started to break I decided to get a more modern one. Had a look around and this ticked all the boxes ( high street retailers either did not have or were very expensive). The choice was between buying from Richer Sounds direct or via Amazon. The unit itself does a great job in decoding a variety of sounds e.g. Dolby Digital and DTS etc. And from a number of sources e.g. game consoles, blue ray player, hdd recorder etc. My only quibble is that it's not clear that you need a powered ( active ) subwoofer from the description. I had a passive sub so have ordered up an active one from Amazon. So be warned. Having said that this is a great av reciever at a very good price. Would certainly recommend it and Onkyo products in general. They are not a well known brand but certainly do produce excellent equipment at reasonable prices.

Been great for the last 18 months but now stopped working - this is my second Onkyo amp and both have stopped working after a few years so will move on to another brand now for sure. Under 2 years working is simply not good enough.

Bought and set up for use with my projector setup. Worked for 1 hour before the sound cut out. Tried everything to get it back. Very disappointed as I have an old TX-NR414 that still works great and wanted to stick with the Onkyo brand because of this. Maybe I got lucky with my 414? Returned for refund. Do not buy this model! Try to find a more reliable receiver.

Bought as replacement for an Onkyo TX-SR578 which was not 4K compatable. Sound quality and definition vastly superior to other makes at this price point and above . Unit is very well featured and addresses issues with speech clarity that are common with modern TV programmes. Connected to Sky Q, Amazon Fire, and Blu Ray and sound and picture quality are superb. Word of caution - early models of this unit suffered component failure due to overheating which has been addressed in a recent upgrade, but I would still avoid housing within an enclosed cabinet.

Just what I wonted inhanced my surround sound brilliant

When it arrived I was looking forwards to an easy life not having to change wires when I watch uhd and 3D movies because my old Onkyo could not pass these signals. Had the unit about 1 week when the front left speaker stopped working, so thinking it was the old speakers spec was not up to the minimum 6ohms. Went and got a set of Onkyo speakers within the next 2 weeks both front speakers had blown. Today I sent it back and am unsure if I will buy a new one but I wouldn't recommend it to a friend.
