DevaCurl Ultra Defining Gel (355 ml)

WOW! This product is amazing. I've been a user of Aveda Be Curly Curl Enhancer for 12 years. I've never been able to find anything that came close, until this. Ordered it Friday, had is on Saturday and went out with the most amazing defined curls on Saturday. You do have to use it as directed though and fluff it up once it's dry, that gives volume and gets rid of any crunch leaving soft bouncy spiral curls (well for me it did). I'm a total convert now and ordering another bottle today as a standby! I've now also ordered the conditioner. Check out the Curly Girl Handbook, it really helps with naturally curly hair technique. Another point, I was short on time, I always am, so I used my diffuser on really low heat to speed up the process and then massaged the roots once done, I also dried my hair mostly upside down. I hope this review helps.

I have type 3C, dark blonde, top of the boob when pulled out, length hair, humidity changes the amount of fuzz! Also used in conjunction with DV No-poo and One Condition. (reviewed seperately) I ditched the Moose after 30 years! This feels sticky on the hands, trial and error with the amounts to use (Heaped 10p size for me) too much could make it heavy on finer curly hair so be careful. Definitely defines the curl more, I usually get more frizz on the ends where the hair is dryer, this has not happened. Odd to use after so many years of hair moose but worth the money. After applying the gel then wrapping is a soft towel I also topped up with the Supercream Coconut curl (See seperate review). My hair is so much softer and looks in better condition.

I was expecting a miracle balm which would offer great control and which would also free me from the many products I put on my hair. First, let it be known that I am a product junkie. Naturally curly hair is a beast to care for, and I have used everything from Kerastase to Aveda to Garnier. The DevaCurl offered very little hold the first time I used it, and based on the helpful comment of another purchaser, I thought perhaps it was my Kerastase oil that I had put on my hair that made it less effective. The gel worked a little better without the oil, but my hair felt dry. I think this gel works best if hair is not blow-dried with a diffuser and is left to air dry and if you don't want too much definition in your curls. As many of the other curly girls on this site have said, I really wanted to love this product. Alas, the smell reminds me of cheap drug-store gel that I used in my teens, and the hold leaves a lot to be desired. I think I will stick to my Aveda Brilliant gel, or Garnier Fructis bamboo gel.

I'm a little more on the fence about this product than the Coconut Super Cream Styler. It's not as hard as most curly hair gels. It takes a long time to harden up, in my opinion, so it's very hard to avoid messing up curls while you wait for it to dry. With my hair being low porosity, this takes a long time, so it's difficult to avoid diffusing. However, the finished product is very voluminous, the curls are separated and have body and the gel cast truly is soft yet it does have hold. As my hair is super curly however, I would prefer the hold to be a touch stronger, so I will try the Arc Angel Gel next time.

I love this gel! Expensive but worth it in my opinion. I co-wash (wash with conditioner) or use sulphate free shampoo then follow with this. I used to use all sorts of products...serum, mousse/gel, finishing product...but this is the only one I use now. I gently squeeze my hair dry with a microfibre towel or cotton t-shirt, apply the gel then diffuse or leave to dry naturally depending on how much time I have! It can leave your hair slightly crispy, especially if you leave to dry naturally but you can gently scrunch or run your fingers through to release this and it holds your curls well. If you're going to try this, I recommend reading Lorraine Massey's Curly Girl Handbook or doing some research online about how to treat your curls. Good luck with your curly journey!

I've used this about three times now, just to give out a proper chance. However, this product makes my curly/wavey hair feel very dry and straw-like with no shine. So disappointed as it gets a lot of hype and created by the author of The curly girl method, which I follow. Boucleme is much better for my hair type...

First you MUST understand something vital: bringing out your curls requires **technique!** You can't just slap this stuff on your head and expect results. I highly recommend you avail yourself of: -Curly Nikki (website) -Curly Girl the Handbook (or a similar curly hair bible.) THEN grab yourself a bottle of this stuff and be prepared to be blown away! IT WORKS! It works so well that even the shocker price tag is worth every penny. I've spent almost my entire life, up until basically this last year, hating my frizzy crazy ugly hair. Now I have awesome hair and I no longer feel like an unkempt weirdo when I walk out of the door.

My daughter has very curly hair (just past her shoulders) and this is the only product that makes her hair look manageable and nice looking. I can always tell if she runs out of this product because her hair will look dry and messy. I have just received the new bottle for her and am pleased that there is actually a product that works. It is difficult for her as her hair has always been an issue and she has spent a small fortune on products only for them to land up in the bin. It is best to save up for this than spend money on products that don't define and moisten your curls and leave your hair looking beautiful. It is expensive but it is worth it.

Ottimo prodotto, se usato in maniera corretta (su YouTube trovate molti video di riferimento) aiuta a definire i riccioli lasciandoli morbidi. Sicuramente costa parecchio ma se considerate che dura diversi mesi (poi dipende dalla lunghezza e quantità dei capelli che avete) ed è possibile evitare di usare 50 prodotti diversi, alla fine è un investimento ;)

Many gels are sticky and leave a residue or dry flaky.. this one does not. Once the hair is dry and the cast has formed on the curls, it scrunches out to soft curls with good staying power. I have not tried the new bottle and formulation yet, so I’m not sure if it will be the same, so I purchased a couple of extra “old style” as pictured, from this seller which arrived quickly and clearly had not been opened or tampered with. Thank you for the good service!

Works very well on my hair

Lo encontré en rebaja y me animé a pedirlo, debo decir que es muy ligerito, si tu cabello es fino con tendencia a que todo le caiga pesado este gel es 100% para ti. Si tu cabello está muy seco e indomable, creo que lo más adecuado sería tratarlo primero, a mi me gusta para refrescar mis ondas al día siguiente y el acabado es genial, para nada pegajoso, el producto es bueno, solo hay que saber usarlo y claro, que a tu cabello le caiga bien.
