I am writing this review after having used the product for about a week, so these are initial impressions. I may add to them as applicable.This KVM (keyboard, video, mouse) switch allows you to share the common periperals of keyboard, monitor, and mouse between two computers, which can be the same type (such as two PCs) or different types (such as a PC and a Mac, as in my case). There are cables on one side that connect to the monitor via VGA, and the keyboard and mouse via USB. If you have a PS/2 keyboard and/or mouse, you will need a convertor into which you plug the peripherals, and which itself plugs into the ports on the KVM. Be careful - such simple (and cheap) connectors will provide a physical connection, but may fail to work.Back to the KVM. On the other side are two pairs of cables that connect to the two computers, again via VGA for the monitor and USB for the keyboard and mouse. They are nearly 3' (0.9m) long, so your computers don't have to be right next to each other.The final component is a button at the end of another cable, which is used to switch the peripherals between the computers. After you have connected everything (with the computers off) and booted the computers, just click to switch to whichever one is not currently connected. It's significant that this is a physical switch - many KVMs work by emulation. There are upsides and downsides to this - you should be able to use smart mice (and maybe keyboards) that a normal KVM could not support beyond their basic features (I intend to try this out). On the other hand, switching can take slightly longer on PCs, as Windows goes through its usual routine of registering the switch as the peripherals being connected and disconnected, so switching back to Windows results in a delay of several seconds while the devices are detected. This does not apply to Mac OS X.In use so far, the KVM has worked very well, with just a couple of glitches: one where a Windows error said that a device attached to the system had malfunctioned, and the other where after a reboot Windows 7 failed to identify the monitor correctly (resulting in the resolution being lower). Happily, these have been transitory, with normal service quickly being resumed. The monitor issue may have been due to the Mac having been the active computer when the PC was rebooted - the problem did not reproduce when I clicked Restart on Windows, and did not change the KVM connection until Windows was back.Regarding build quality, I disagree that there is anything flimsy about the construction. In particular, the cables (including the remote switch) seem perfectly adequate. The remote switch even has a soft pad underneath, to help keep it in place on your desk - to me, this is a clear indication of the thought that has gone into the design.As the minor issues encountered are probably due to Windows (I've had no problems at all with the Mac), there is no reason for this inexpensive and useful product not to receive the full five stars.

Retired my Windows 7 pc from the internet as no longer supported by Microsoft and invested in a Windows 10 pc. Nothing wrong with the older pc and I have loads of music, games and documents on it (backed up of course) which I will no doubt get round to transferring, but still a perfectly good machine which I will continue to use. Wanted the ability to switch between the 2 pc’s and a kvm switch looked ideal. Bought a similar product from Amazon (reviewed elsewhere) and was disappointed as it didn’t work. Bought the Aten product and could tell the quality was much better when I opened the box. The unit comes with 2 vga cables and 4 usb cables already attached. I have 1 pc on the top shelf of my workstation and the other below so that they have plenty of air circulation around them. Set up was a breeze. Connected the 1st pc to the kvm unit with one of the vga connectors and the 2 usb connectors to 2 spare ports on the pc. You can peel the usb cables back a little if required so that they are not stretched. Same installation with 2nd pc and then connected the vga cable from the monitor to the switch. The kvm unit currently sits on the bottom shelf of my workstation where I can see the lights easily. Switching is controlled with a push button switch in the shape of a small mouse. The cable for this is thin and very long, easily reaching the upper shelf of the workstation. My new pc came with a wireless keyboard & mouse but I don’t like using the flat keys, so updated my old equipment with a Logitech wired keyboard & mouse set which you can also buy on Amazon. The mouse and keyboard both connect to ports on the kvm switch. The switch recognised both pc’s immediately and by clicking the switch I can alternate between the 2 with keyboard & mouse both operating satisfactorily. Have only came across 1 glitch. If I start my Windows 7 pc alone and the switch is set to the wrong pc, when I click to select the correct pc, the quality of the picture of the desktop on the monitor is fine but the resolution is set at 1024x768 instead of the default of 1680x1050. If I restart the pc it reverts to the default. This isn’t a deal breaker for me as I can also reset the resolution without restarting and to be fair, the Dell monitor is getting on a bit now and is on my list for replacement. In summary, happy with this product so far.

Brilliant piece of kit (shame about the button)I've coupled it with the Patuoxun 1080P HDMI Male to Female adaptor and it works seamlessly.I use it at work as the computers we're provided are s***ty old WYSE terminals that regularly lock up. The WYSE box feeds into the KVM switch, as does my far nicer laptop (via HDMI -> VGA adaptor) and then into my monitor by VGA from the KVM.One thing to watch out for when you're connecting it all up is that the KVM switch does NOT act as a USB hub, i.e. if you put two signals (mouse, keyboard) into it, you'll need both USB leads to be inserted into your laptop, unless you connect these leads to an independent hub. When installing I was cursing my purchase until I realised this, plugged in the other USB to the laptop and hey presto, no issues.On resolution.. The laptop is an ASUS UX32A Zenbook Prime outputting to a 24" 1080P screen by HDMI->VGA c/o the KVM switch. No issues with graphics lag or ghosting, no issues with high resolution video in full screen on either the laptop's monitor or the bit screen. The WYSE box is outputting 1860*900 to the same screen (stupid thing, it doesn't support 16:9 screens so I don't get the full resolution) -- but it works fine too.The button.. well, its a bit naff. Its very lightweight plastic and there's no spring mechanism other than a millimeter strip of malleable plastic inside to provide the 'button' any kind of give.. so it gets stuck a lot. That said, it still works and the switch from one source to another takes less at most 2 seconds.Overall a solid piece of equipment for a great price, I hope it lasts for a while.

I use this to connect my 24" monitor, wireless keyboard and wireless mouse to my laptop and desktop PCs.It works perfectly!To cover some common objections:* captive, non replaceable cables. Come on, how long before a cable breaks, really? A set of cables would cost nearly as much as this whole package anyway.* captive cables too short. May be an issue if you have a big desk. My laptop and desktop are at opposite ends of a small desk, and cable length is fine - Though another 0.5m would be useful to allow neater routing of cables.* Display quality. Cannot be faulted - however, my desktop PC reverted from 1920x1200 to 1024x768 after connecting for the first time - so this might explain some users' loss of quality. Windows had even detected the monitor incorrectly, as if the maximum resolution was 1600x1200. A quick trip into Device Manager to delete the Monitor and then Scan For Hardware Changes, and the correct PnP monitor was detected, and I'm back at 1920x1200 with perfect quality. Note I only had to do this this first time.* Flimsy switch - it works, stop complaining!Undocumented Feature...You can use this device to share more than just the keyboard and mouse. I connected it to my Belkin 7 port USB hub to which my scanner, keyboard, mouse were all connected. I expected Windows to have to re-find the scanner driver after each switch in this configuration, but that doesn't appear to be the case. Switching is still between 3 and 7 seconds even with the scanner.Top Tip 1The first time you access each PC, Windows will install drivers again, as the USB ports have all changed. Leave it connected to that PC long enough for it to finish before switching.Top Tip 2Always plug everything into the same USB ports. Each time you plug a known device into a different USB port, Windows installs the driver again, which takes time.Overall, a highly recommended device

Purchased this on Thursday, it arrived Monday with free postage so can't fault Amazon at all. The item itself comes securely packaged in a small box, along with an instruction manual which isn't really necessary at all. It's very easy to use, simply plug in all the cables and away you go.My only problem with this product is that the cables themselves could do with being slightly longer. I use this to switch between a laptop and a desktop and had to rearrange my desk a little to make it work. Saying that, however, I think this product would be ideal if you have two desktop computers sitting under your desk, so if that's what you're after this product is perfect. The image quality is great. Windows might initially select a lower resolution but change this back to your monitors native setting (desktop>right click>screen resolution) the first time you use it and it'll remember that every time.Switching between computers takes next to no time, perhaps five seconds at most and both keyboard and mouse work as normal (though they might need to be reinstalled the first time, Windows 7 will do this automatically).Overall, a fantastic product at a great price!

I have a laptop and a desktop, both running XP Pro. The laptop is in fact a mobile Workstation running high end CAD software. The monitor being used is a 26" Flat with a resolution of 1920 x 1200. Mouse/keyboard connectivity is by USB and for the video I have used the monitor and pc DVI ports with adapters.I tried three different Belkin switches and they all had problems. On one the audio was not only bad but sometimes suddenly screeched out of the blue sufficient to get me off my chair - not a pleasant experience. The other two tried simply were not reliable. They either didn't switch when commanded (one had a wired remote, the other a wireless)or had problems with screen placement and resolution. The worse thing was resolution where I would have to switch back and forth between computers until the resolution sorted itself out and I could see the whole screen. Even when it did work, it would always take many seconds of beeping before the keyboard and mouse were recognised and started working. Sometimes as long as about 15 seconds or so. Very frustrating.I spoke to a number of KVM suppliers including ATEN. They offered various alternatives including devices costing over £100 and more. Some had separate power supplies and had to have software installed. I didn't want any of that. I also wanted a remote switch as pressing a hot key is not so useful. In addition, most use the Scroll Lock key and my keyboards don't have one! I want to keep using my keyboard / mouse combo (Logitech MK300). They all said that wireless keyboards and mice were not recommended and especially a Combo. Anyway, I decided to forgo the audio and select a KVM without as having 2 sets of speakers was not a problem to me. I selected one of the cheapest KVM switches I could - this one - to give it a try.It works perfectly! Even with my keyboard combo. No problems with resolution or video clarity. Reliable switching. Mouse and keyboard work within about 2 -3 seconds. Have been using it for a few days now.All in all much better than stated on the tin. Although of course it isn't in a tin but it does say it's simple and it is! I would recommend.

OK its not expensive at £15 and does the job so ill rate it bearing that in mind.I have to 'work around it' as my PC's will not boot correctly showing 'keyboard errors' if the KVM has the PC im booting up from selected.(laptop does not recognise the K/B and PC shows POST error)After powering everything on i need to boot up the non active PC past POST before switching the KVM to that machine otherwise the keyboard will not work. If i dont then i have to unplug and re-insert the K/B (then it works) !It might be due to the mulitmedia keyboard im using, i dont know.I use a 24" screen at 1600*900 with VGA connections. (slight ghosting but far less than my previous scout KVM switch, you realy have to look for it) so im impressed.The cables are shorter than previous KVM's so i just placed this KVM in the middle of the two machines (no problem)Switching speed is about 5 seconds (fine for me !)How i have to work around.1: switch on the mains supply to everything2: power on the second PC3: Wait about 5 seconds and switch the KVM from the `default first pc' to the second PC (I have just booted up)4: power the first PC on wait 5 seconds and switch the KVM overOnce working i have had no problems so am happy with this purchase.All the keys work correcly such as the '\' key unlike some others i have had.Only 3 stars because of the K/B problems, without channging my K/B i cant say if its the KVM or K/B problemI use a DELL m4300 laptop / DELL dimension 4800 PC with a HP mulitimedia Keyboard.

My setup involves two screens.- Screen 1 auto selects the active input (or I use the buttons on the monitor)- Screen 2 is plugged into this device to switch input via the KVM- Single USB dongle mouse and keyboard (Microsoft)The Good- Easy to set up- You can hide the KVM away and just have the remote switch out which is exactly what I wanted- Works very well with no problems/issues with any USB device plugged inThe Bad- Uses TWO USB ports on your computers. Every other KVM uses one, this one uses two as each seems to correspond to a USB port on the switch so there is no hub built it.- With other KVMs, when I switch input, the KVM still lets the PC know that a monitor is connected. With this device, it acts like a monitor is disconnected. This causes me issues as when I have my layout in using two screens, switching between the two PCs on the KVM automatically rearranges every application from Screen 2 onto Screen 1 as my PCs believe that Screen 2 has been disconnected.Had there been just 1 USB port needed or the issue of sending the No Signal to PC didn't exist, then this would definitely be 5 stars.

El aparato cumple con lo que dice y funciona sin problemas. He trabajado con otros conmutadores (usb y ps2) y este con diferencia es el mejor.- El conmutado es bastante rápido (~2-3 segundos).- Soporta FullHD.- El mando a distancia, con cable, para conmutar es un buen extra que te permite esconder el conmutador y dejar en el escritorio solo el mando con el pulsador. El cable del mando es bastante largo.- Viene con el juego cables, aunque no son 'desmontables'.- Se alimenta del puerto usbComo contras pondría lo fino que son los cables, especialmente el del mando a distancia. El cable del mando se ve frágil.En cualquier caso es un buen producto; lo volvería a comprar.EDITO 2018/06/02: Después de 6 años con el conmutador, mantengo mi opinión. El tema de la fragilidad del cable del mando, lo sigo manteniendo aunque por suerte a mi no se me ha partido, en parte porque lo fije por debajo del escritorio por lo que no ha tenido más guerra que pulsar el botón. Si estas en duda, este conmutador es una buena elección.

Ich habe das Gerät erworben, um meinen Monitor (Benq G2750) mit meinem Desktop PC und meinem Arbeitslaptop (Lenovo Thinkpad T440s) und der miner Logitech Funkmaus / Tastatur bequem zu betreiben. Installation ist kinderleicht. USB Kabel und VGA Kabel verbinden, USB Funkstecker einstecken; fertig. Computer an und alles funtioniert einwandfrei. Das umschalten über den kleinen Taster geht flott und Mankos in der Grafikdarstellung sehe ich keine. Einfacher geht es nicht.Punktabzug:Mein Laptop ist nun schon sehr klein, aber da auf der Seite, an der der VGA Stecker angeschlossen wird nur ein USB Port verbaut ist, müsste der 2. USB Anschluß auf der anderen Seite eingesteckt werden. Dies funktioniert nicht, da das 2. USB Kabel nach dem Anschluss der anderen beiden Kabel nicht auf die andere Seite reicht. Hier müsste man sich eine Verlängerung besorgen.Da ich nur den Funkstecker für Tastatur und Maus benutze benötige ich den 2. USB Port nicht unbeding (wäre aber schön) und immerhin sind die USB Stecker auch grafisch gekennzeichnet, so daß man sie wenigstens auseinanderhalten kann und nicht durch try and error schauen muss, ob man den richtigen Stecker angeschlossen hat.Nachtrag: Ich bin nach wie vor begeistert und es gab nichts zu beanstanden. Immerhin läuft das Gerät ohne jegliche Probleme nun schon seit über 1 Jahr. Es ist einfach super so zu arbeiten, da ich oft zwischen Computern hin und herschalten muss.Fazit: Ein Super Produkt zu absolut fairem Preis. absolute Kaufempfehlung

Most KVM makers don't recommend or provide support for wireless keyboards and mice, but this works flawlessly in my application (Microsoft Sculpt Ergo Keyboard and a separate Logitech mouse that accompanies a keyboard/mouse combo set). I had trouble with one of my iogear KVM models that didn't support my wireless mouse and keyboard (the iogear KVM with a similar setup other one works fine). I didn't like the Logitech ergo keyboard so I switched to the Microsoft. Works flawlessly and put my challenges attempting to make the iogear one to rest.
