NRS L36201 Ready Reacher - 81 cm (32 inch), Grey Reaching Aid, Grabber Stick & Litter Picker

I bought my first ready reacher two years ago as a replacement for a similar item which had broken. On the plus side, it did exactly what I wanted it to do. I had experienced significant back problems and found it brilliant at picking up items when I didn’t feel I wanted to bend. It was precise enough to pick up the smallest things as well as the larger items. I found it brilliant for such things as picking up apples in the garden and even reaching up to pick them from the tree! One or two negatives that I found were these: First, I found that the plastic insert that ran along the underside was able to slide along and it fouled the grabbing claw such that it wouldn’t open very wide. Once I realised the problem, it was a simple matter to push it back into place and then fix it with a self-tapping screw. The second minor criticism was that it was easy to nip the skin of my finger where the trigger mechanism met the aluminium frame. I just had to learn to keep my finger lower down the trigger and out of harm’s way. However, I was still very pleased with the ready reacher and have just ordered a second. This was because I have just broken the the trigger on my original purchase. I can’t really complain though as it has given me two years of good service and I was trying to pick up a heavy brick at the time! Probably a little beyond its design capacity.

I don't have any mobility problems (touch wood!), and have just purchased this reacher to keep handy for occasional use: e.g. for removing obstructions from my guttering. Having read the other reviews, I was quite confident. On unwrapping, I was a little doubtful, because the reacher seemed very light-weight; the claw grip was mostly in yellow plastic, and was connected to the pole by a fabric cord a bit like a narrow shoelace (perhaps this is standard). However, when I tested it three times by picking up a sheet of A4 paper, a Wellington boot (by gripping the sleeve) and a £1 coin, it was very impressive. It didn't crease the paper, and the grip was good. (The coin doesn't seem to be magnetic). The magnet attached to the reacher picked up and retained a bunch of 3 keys on a ring very easily -2 Yales and a Chubb. I'm pleased to have such a useful object which takes up so little space! To avoid disappointment: I'd like to mention about changing overhead light-bulbs - you'll still need your step-ladder! The reacher won't be able to remove a traditional-style (incandescent) ceiling light-bulb, either bayonet or screw-in. I'm sure this must be the case for other types of bulb too. This is not a fault of the reacher itself. Even a dedicated light-bulb remover I purchased recently was totally useless, because you need to climb up to the level of the light-fitting so that you can use one hand to hold the fitting steady while you twist and remove the bulb by using your other hand. I hope this is of help!

No grabber is indestructible or perfect but this is the best of the lot. Simple and strong as it has no folding joint in the middle which no matter how many designs I've gone through mean you can barely pic anything up than paper. The straight screw at the on top of the tip is ridiculously useful in its own right as long as you keep tightening it. Might be worth designing it with a stronger nut to keep it on. I've gone through 4 of these but it's over a period 8 years of robust use. The other designs rarely last beyond 8 months. These last until the upper rubber jaws erode/disintegrate. The yellow rubber skin on the lower jaw perishes quite quickly but does little to diminish the jaws purchase. These could still be made of more rigid aluminium but are already more robust than the rest. A couple of design tweaks and they could last a lifetime. Top gizmo.

Another product bought to help my less sprightly Mum, it is perfect and really useful for picking bits up and moving things which are lower to the ground. Its sturdy enough but probably couldn't manage too heavy an object as its very light weight. Good for people without much upper body strength.

Absolutely essential for anyone who has had a hip replacement and cannot bend, and jolly useful for someone who has had a knee replaced and is limited in bending and reaching for some weeks. It is sturdy and very well made, really good value for money. It has coped with anything from lifting a slim slip of paper from the floor to pulling rubbish bags behind me to the bin. It is great for opening and closing curtains, lifting down boxes or bags with handles from high shelves, and I will continue to use it long after I return to full bendability for getting things down from high cupboards and shelves.

This product was well made for an economy reacher. I have a mixture of premium and economy reachers in different parts of the home and the car. For me the premium brand is "Helping Hands" and their particular reacher. However, with an entry RRP of £14 upwards, premium has to be complemented with economy. The price of under £6 including p&p was good value. This particular economy reacher is what I would call lightweight use. I used it in a heavyweight role and broke it. No reflection on the manufacturer who makes these reachers for NRS, I was over ambitious. With all these reachers (Premium V Economy, Heavyweight Use V Lightweight Use) I tend to get my carer to hot glue neodymium magnets as I am unable to bend.

I much prefer this design and materials to the plastic versions which look more like a toy and have I feel a poorer grip. This works great to save bending in the house for may item but I bought this specially longer one for the garden as my whole estates crisp packets and bus tickets seem to end up in my garden. It does the job with lack of back ache and as the picture shows a nice grip. Not suited to picking up heavy items just light rubbish or small household items. Have two different sizes now for different purposes. Highly recommend.

Fantastic product! Very lightweight and easy grip. Excellent grab - able to pick up husbands shoes to move them out of the way. It will also pick up very small pieces. Husband spilt a small amount of grated cheese on the floor and the grabber was also able to pick this up and pop it in the bin with ease. In addition the magnet is strong enough to pick up a large bunch of keys! I had to email NRS on a couple of occasions with a query- excellent and prompt customer care! Would definitely recommend.
