Solid budget-friendly hole saw set for light-duty wood and plastic
I bought this Bosch 11-piece hole saw set during a recent home renovation project, mainly for installing downlights, running copper pipe through cabinets, and routing cables through MDF panels. With Bosch being a trusted name and the set priced just over a tenner, it seemed like a solid choice for light DIY work. I didn’t expect professional performance, but I hoped for something reliable for soft materials. After putting it through a good range of real-world tests over a few weekends, I’ve got a fairly clear picture of its strengths and where it falls short. I tested this set on a range of materials with varying thicknesses. On MDF sheets in 12mm, 18mm, and 25mm, the saws performed best when used with a slow drill speed and backed with scrap wood to minimise exit tear-out. However, I did notice faster dulling on thicker sheets, especially with the 51mm and 63mm saws. Plywood in 9mm and 18mm thickness cut well with moderate pressure, though on thicker boards there were occasional burn marks if I didn’t clear the debris regularly. On soft pine boards (22mm and 38mm), cutting was smooth and consistent with no burn marks or resistance. The set also worked nicely on PVC trunking and backboxes (3–5mm thick), producing clean holes without cracking. Chipboard cabinet walls at around 15mm were easily handled too, though I found pre-drilling a pilot hole gave much better control. I also used it on 10mm plastic fascia board with good results at low RPM to avoid melting. To really test its limits, I attempted a cut in 1mm galvanised steel and, as expected, it failed badly. The teeth skated on the surface, quickly overheated, and the tool bound up almost immediately. This confirmed that the set is completely unsuited for metal, despite what some buyers might assume from the Bosch name. In terms of real projects, I used this kit to install ten 68mm downlights into MDF ceiling panels, drill 29mm holes through kitchen units for 22mm copper pipe, cut 38mm and 44mm cable-routing holes behind a TV unit, and make 51mm air holes for a cat enclosure. I also modified a caravan drawer unit with a 32mm hole for fitting a 12V socket. In all these applications, the saws performed well when used thoughtfully—slow drill speeds, regular clearing, and minimal force. Overall, I’m impressed by the value this kit offers for light wood and plastic applications. The saws lock securely into the arbour and feel stable during use. However, there’s no carry case, only a flimsy cardboard tray that won’t last. The plastic construction around the mandrel doesn’t feel particularly durable either, and you’ll need to be careful not to over-torque it during use. Larger sizes dull faster with repeated MDF cutting, and the pilot drill can wander if you’re working without a starter hole, particularly on smooth or hard surfaces. If your needs are light-duty—occasional woodworking, basic electric or plumbing work, or furniture modification—this is a very usable kit for the money. For under £11, it offers better reliability than many unbranded alternatives. Just be aware of its clear limits: it’s not designed for trade use, frequent cutting, or anything involving metal or hardwood. For casual home use, though, it’s more than capable.

a very reasonably priced set of decent hole saws from Bosch
If you need to drill an above average diameter hole you basically have to choose between a hole saw, a spade bit or an auger style bit. The latter are a fair bit pricier but generally more effective. This is a very reasonably priced set of hole saws from Bosch. I thought the case was OK. Used two sizes so far - a clean cut but hole saws do blunt pretty fast as a rule. Probably easier to control than a spade bit but depth is obviously limited. With any of the different types of hole saws mentioned here I would highly recommend fitting a side handle on the drill or at least gripping very firmly with your non-trigger hand - if these bits bind or jam, which they often do, you get pretty vicious twisting kick back on your wrist, so be careful. The saws come covered in loads of oil - and for a reason, hole saws are prone to rusting. Can't comment on long term use at this point.

Not the usual Bosch quality, but OK for light DIY use
Basic quality and only really suitable for light use. I bought these as the set contained the exact size I needed to cut the holes for LED down lighters. They were fine for cutting holes in thin pieces of wood, but I doubt that they would handle any heavy amount of use.

Perfect
Really useful for a job in my bedroom. The instructions are in picture format on the cardboard outer box so keep the box. They come covered in oil so have a rag or tissue handy. I used them on my mains powered electric drill. Great value for money and should last for years. There are lot of different sizes of circular saw type drill bits with size of 22/25/29/35/38/44/51/68mm. These bits are really quality product from Bosch Hope this review will help you choose the better product.

Seem like a good hole saw set
First time i've ever used a hole saw and it worked a treat. The bits are not deep enough to drill straight through a standard worktop, but drilling from the top and then the bottom worked perfectly using a pilot hole to centre the drill and it made a very clean and neat hole. First use and working at an awkward angle, it was fairly easy to drill through the top. How long lasting these saws are, I can't answer, but you do get a lot off them so should come in handy again.

Good quality and silly cheap
I recently did a job where I had to use a hole saw. I needed quite a large size and because it was just a one off job I bought a cheap discount store set. I regretted that fairly quickly because it was so poorly made. I actually didn’t finish the job without turning to my jigsaw. So I saw these at silly money and thought I would try them. I have found that they are really good quality certainly against the nasty set. Easy to use and good to have, except for one thing. All the sizes are too small for the job that I needed the saw for in the first place. Still useful to have as I do get jobs where I find the need for a holesaw

Easy to use
I had to drill 2 holes in a new internal door for the handles and the lock. I'd never done anything like this before, so was a bit hesitant to try. However, I read up about these drill bits and decided to buy the set as for the price, I couldn't really complain if it all went hideously wrong. It didn't. They worked great. So for anyone wanting to try something like this, or for making large holes in things, then get these. I haven't tried on metal and don't know if these are suitable, but for wood, great. Recommended.
