Rip Kirby Volume 7

John Prentice and Fred Dickenson has done this series as good as Alex Raymod, even better in some cases. I hope IDW publishes these books on a more frequent schedule than once a year. Really reading worth every page. If you love detective crimes, this is for you. Try any of the volumes and you won't be disappointed. The story line as well as the artwork are simply superb. Great book !

Excellent artist and excellent stories. This book is worth buying and reading over and over again. RIp Kirby meets one of his most dangerous enemy: Scorpion - the pirate who looks like Rip!!! Desmond gets a surprise visit informing that he has inherited some rich relative and has estates all over the world - but he will eventually find out that friends are worth gold in difficult situations.... If you have not read Kirby before then this book is one of the best ones to start.

The art work and story-telling is outstanding. It makes me wish I was born in another time. Al Williamson (who was John's apprentice) seems to have drawn himself as the protagonist in the first story. I can't tell who drew what, but the combination of these two master artists is amazing to say the least. The stories are compelling and exciting, and the cast of characters are fun to read. I wish there was more stuff like this out there.

This series is consistently better than most others that ever appeared in newspaper dailies, particularly the art work. Every male fiction character of that day was expected to be a man without strings playing the field, and around 1960 the writers made Rip more true to that mold. Honey Dorian and Pagan Lee are never seen nor mentioned, and much of the continuity built since 1946 was replaced by predictable story lines and routine situations and women who disappear conveniently at the end of the story. Everyone wanted to be James Bond I suppose... John Prentice's artwork is very good. It rarely provides a panel that makes me stare and soak it in like Alex Raymond, but there are also no panels that look rushed or sloppy. The last few stories were the best of the book. I wonder if this relates to Prentice leaving a remote Mexico location and returning to the USA. The book is of good quality with dark inks printed on thick, white paper. I hope there is a volume 8 as Prentice won several awards for his work in the mid to late 60s.

When great American comic strips are reprinted in sequential order from the beginning...it is awesome. Getting to read the entire length of the strip from the beginning through to the ending is a great experience. Now publishers are beginning to spend more time publishing these classics. Li'l Abner, Phantom, Peanuts, Dick Tracy, Miss Fury, Mickey Mouse, Rip Kirby, Hagar The Horrible, etc. are all being reprinted. Get these while you can. It'll keep them printing more. Great material in this volume.

My only regret i that I read this book in one weekend. Now, waiting for vol.8...

Il Rip KIrby di John Prentice e Fred Dickenson è una delle migliori strip di sempre. Stupendo graficamente (Prentice non ha nulla da invidiare ad Alex Raymond), sempre ben congenato, con trame intelligenti e dialoghi brillanti, e due protagonisti accattivanti, rappresenta un ottimo esempio di commedia gialla. Dell'edizione IDW sentivo dire bene, ma il prezzo, alquanto sostenuto, mi ha ha sempre scoraggiato. Approfittando di un momentaneo sostanzioso sconto, ho acquistato questo volume. Nulla da dire, ottimo prodotto con un'interessante introduzione e vignette in gran formato, che consente di apprezzare la bellezza del disegno. Ineccepibile il servizio Amazon. Bene, resto in attesa di altri sconti.

As is the case with all previous volumes of Rip Kirby archives from IDW, this one is no different! Splendid reproduction values and effort from the publisher. Just loved it!
