Very bright
This is a compact and powerful flashlight that is an ideal everyday (everynight?) carry item. It is extremely bright for its size and is capable of producing enough illumination for the vast majority of applications. The beam will easily dazzle somebody across the street and thus is an excellent tool for security applications. The small size of the flashlight means that it can be easily concealed and can be comfortably carried on the belt even while driving. The body is made from steel and the flashlight has a built to last feel. The belt clip is strong and slips over the end of the flashlight and is then tightened. This makes it very strong and eliminates any chance of it coming off while being carried. The light is activated by a switch on the back of the flashlight. The way the switch functions means that it is possible to activate any of the three modes instantly without having to cycle through them. The switch, like the rest of the flashlight, has a solid built to last feel to it. The are three settings. A quick on/off flash, continuous on and then a strobe that people with epilepsy should probably avoid. I'm not sure what function the strobe serves other than to possibly assist when defending against an attacker. Overall a nice little tool for a variety of uses.

Great torch
Easy to operate, feels great in your hand, very rugged, beam focus is fantastic. Much brighter than even the 2D or 3D. You could easily disorient someone with this, especially on the strobe mode. It's also small enough to be placed into an everyday bike light mount. The clip included if made of a reinforced plastic and is fairly bendable but I can assure you than it won't break any time soon. The batteries for this are pretty expensive and they don't last all that long. So I don't know how many of you would want to use this as an everyday torch because it will quickly become cumbersome having to constantly replace the cells. You can buy rechargeable but these will of course be inferior to proper lithium ion cells by Duracell or alike. They take a special type of cell which is usually used in things like alarm systems. CR 123 type. They're also 3V batteries, so 6V in total. That is the reason why this little thing is so much brighter than the bigger D cell torches. Still, I keep this by my side all the time now, I might buy another just to have in the car. Excellent piece of kit and highly recommended to everyone.

Love this Torch.
Smashing little flashlight I own about six Mag-Lites so I had no trouble choosing this one. At 320 Lumens it's nice and bright. It only gets 4 stars because batteries don't last very long, and there's no strong case or pouch.

Great Torch. Love it so much
Great Torch. Love it so much. It's unbelievably powerful and compact and although it burns battery pretty fast, because it's so easy to turn on and off, it changes the way you use it. You tend to turn it on to investigate something rather than to just walk along. As a result the torch actually lasts quite a long time. And again, it is SO bright. I had a competition with a maglite of similar size and the magtac wins hands down. It has a far brighter beam, wider andle of cover and the light that it gives off is much whiter than bulb torches because of the LED. As a result you see much clearer colour. Torch is light and ergonomic and sturdy as anything. Feels like it will last 1000 years. Good buy. :)

Owned for 8 years
Looking at reviews I felt I had to jump in on this. I purchased this model in 2015 when I imagine they were quite new to the scene. This is a torch I use on occasion as it will use a lot of battery power up. I own less powerful torches also for longer use but this torch does really blow everything else away on power an I love it. It’s definitely my favourite and the power really is military grade. This is a specialist torch and certainly delivers. I change batteries every couple of months or so and yes they will die without warning and yes they won’t last as long as your regular torch but this is a class above. I recommend you also own a less extravagant torch and enjoy the strength of the mag tac with your back up torch on hand.

Just.... no.
I'm not a review writer - this may be my first. But I've just had enough of this product. As a review reader, I tend to discount 1 and 5 star reviews - they're generally biased or unreliable, or don't relate to the product but to the service, or packaging, or something equally trivial. This is a 1 star review, and relates to the product. Oh, also, just to clarify something that seems to be a common question.... There are 2 models of this torch - I've got the more expensive Mag Tac Crowned Bezel, which is slightly more powerful and has the strobe mode rather than the low power mode. The low power mode version may better handle the problems I've had with this torch, but please make sure you know what you're buying - the Amazon questions and blurb don't really make it clear that they're different or why one is more expensive! Lets start by saying that I've always loved Maglites - I've had D cells, mini maglites and aaa mini maglites since the '80s. They're robust, reliable, powerful and long lasting. This torch is perhaps 1 of those 4 things, and only for a very short period of time. I'm incredibly disappointed. The one positive thing it is, straight out the box with fresh batteries, it's powerful. Wow, what a light! It feels like main-beam-headlight powerful, so has a great reach as well as power, though I'd argue is too powerful to use around others without irritating them or blinding them, and it will destroy your night vision however you use it (though why do you need night vision if you've got such a powerful torch...hmm... yeh....) I don't see any option for filter use on this torch, so I don't see a tactical application for it at all, and anyway, it's too harsh a light, would be seen for miles and, unless the filter is nearly opaque, it wouldn't protect your night vision anyway. I guess that this is marketed more at law enforcement or guard use, so being a gucci / ally super bright "military grade torch" is one of the attractions. The torch is also well made and feels robust and solid. However that's all it really has going for it. It's not long lasting. I bought my torch with a 10 pack of Duracell Ultra Lithium batteries at £22 - a third the price of the torch. I'd say I've used up ALL of those batteries with less than 4 hours use in total. In actual use, I've tended to use it in short bursts (to see enough to open a gate, pick up a dog poo, be seen by a car, find the dog, find something on the ground, get round an obstacle, tree roots, etc, illuminate an area just to see how far it'll reach) rather than for long periods of time. If I'm lucky, adding it all up (we'll be really generous and say 1 minutes use on a 10 minute dog walk), I'm getting maybe a month - 6 weeks of dog walks, so half an hour - 45 mins use out of it in total, not the 4 hours runtime suggested in the blurb. Given the cost of batteries, this is crazy. Maybe I've got a faulty model, but having read some non Amazon reviews, I'm not so sure. Maybe you'll get more on continuous use? but that leads on to..... It's not reliable. The battery does not run down in a predictable manner. With batteries straight out the pack, the torch is super bright. Give it 10 minutes or so, and there is a subtle but noticeable drop in brightness, though still gives a great light. I think is suggested / advertised behaviour. It'll run like that for most of the batteries life. And then suddenly you'll turn it on and you get less light coming out of it than a phone torch, or even a phone screen. It's barely usable, and you get no notice or predictable dimming - it'll just happen. One second you turn it on an everything is fine, next, up a hill in the middle of nowhere, its useless. This is not predictable, reliable behaviour for a torch in any situation, but particularly not in a military or law enforcement situation, although I guess if you're in that position, your employer will be buying your batteries and they'll always be fresh at the start of a shift, and your pocket will be full of them. Elements of it are not robust. Whilst it's a solid, well made bit of kit, the supplied pocket clip is useless. You can tighten it all you want, but after 5 minutes of use, the clip will be loose and fall off (or you'll drop the torch if its not inside a pocket). It cannot be relied upon. In terms of general niggles, unlike a standard maglite, this beam can't be focussed or widened. So you have one beam and that's it. It's a fairly decent beam to be fair. I'm not a fan of the power button on the end cap, as you tend to find yourself holding the torch over hand and over your shoulder, which isn't comfortable long term, and you look stupid (unless you're in law enforcement, obviously! ;) ) I'm pretty sure you can take the lens cap off and sit the end cap in it to use like a candle (as you could with mini maglites) but the bulb is too bright for it to be of any use in that situation. And the strobe is useless really, though I did see someone suggest they used it as a bike light. Hmm, a bright 12mhz strobe designed to disorientate attackers coming towards you whilst your driving a car.... yes, sounds safe and sensible! My advice? Unless you really want this or need the power or strobe application, look elsewhere. Personally I don't know what to look at as an alternative yet. Though even my 20 year old mini maglite with a cheapish replacement LED bulb is a better, more reliable, long lasting and robust option than this, though obviously not as powerful as the Mag Tac. But do you really need that power? really?????....???

10+ Years later and I’m still living this light! Highly recommended.
I’ve owned this torch for over 10 years now and I can say with certainty that this is the perfect compact torch for any use. Really bright, great grip, strong and solid construction, and lasts a long time. Nice weight to it too. You won’t regret this purchase!
