Absolutely superb low profile cooler
This replaced a Scythe Shuriken, in Silverstone ITX case, socket 1155, with a second generation i5 rated at 77 watts. The Scythe is also low profile but was large enough to touch the memory on one side, and it blocked the PCI slot at the other, thus making it impossible to install a graphics card. This comes in exemplary packaging, a sort of double box, which makes damage in transit just about impossible. It also includes a long screwdriver and thermal paste. There are two separate packages of materials, for AMD and for Intel. It turned out to be harder than expected to release the Scythe, which made me wonder how on earth I had managed to get it installed in the first place. You have to turn the usual plastic Intel rods anti-clockwise, and in the tiny space available this is quite awkward. The contrast with the Noctua system of fastening is very striking, and I will never use a cooler with the plastic push rod system again. I was thinking of using the Scythe on another build, but after seeing the contrast with the Noctua mounting system am having second thoughts and may drop it off at a charity shop instead! To install, you have to take everything out and lift up the main board enough to be able to fit the backplate. This is very simple, you just push the bolts up through the main board holes, then drop it back and attach the mounting strips on the top side using some knurled nuts, which you tighten up fairly gently with a cross head screwdriver. The result is a very solid mounting base. The instructions are very clear. The mounting strips can be installed on either pair of sides, and depending which way you do it, the heat sink will be differently oriented. The difference is that the heat pipes project a few mm on two of the sides, so if space is very crowded you might need to choose one way rather than the other. It is however so compact that at least on my own installation it comfortably cleared the memory and the PCI socket whichever way it was oriented. In terms of vertical clearance, my own installation is in a Sugo5 case, using a Silverstone power supply. This is a little larger than a standard ITX supply and projects out over the cpu. The Noctual fits with a couple of centimeters clearance under the PSU. The PSU is mounted with the fan at the top, so it vents externally through the top of the case. It also is just about silent. On the front of the case there is a large Noctua case fan, also very low noise. I cleaned off the old thermal paste from the processor using cotton buds and surgical spirit, then finished off with paper towel dipped in surgical spirit. Apply a small heap of the Noctual thermal past in the center of the processor, then remove the plastic cover on the contact plate and drop it onto the processor. The backplate and mounting strips are very robust, and the method of attaching the heat sink matches. There are two threaded rods which project upwards from the mounting strips. Two spring loaded sockets project downwards from the heat sink, and you attach these to the rods using a cross head screwdriver. It is not necessary to remove the fan for this, you can reach through the fan blades. To connect, you can use the low noise adaptor. I did not bother and doubt it will be necessary for many people. The reason I didn't is that the processor is a little out of spec for this cooler, high by about 12 watts. Its now mounted with plenty of space around it for access to the rest of the board, and the questions are noise and temperature. In terms of noise, its just about inaudible. I am not doing any very demanding graphics work or anything that will really stress the processor, but in normal use of office or home media applications its inaudible. So far its never risen to any audible level. Cooling is exemplary. Its at least as good as the Scythe, and quieter with it. Temps at idle are in the high thirties, rising to the low forties on one or two cores in use, and as I say, in just about complete silence. Writing this for instance the hottest cores are 38 and the cpu fan is at zero. If I were assembling an ITX today, I'd, get a Silverstone 13 case, mount the biggest Noctua fan it will take in the front, use a 35 watt processor, a smaller power supply, and cool it with one of these. It will be silent and low power and will last forever. Reservations? None. There is a comment in these reviews that the supplied screwdriver is chromed down to the tip, and that small bits peel off in use. It is indeed chromed, and just to be safe I used a standard cross head screwdriver with bare metal tip in most of the installation, but I used the supplied on on a couple of the heads with no problem. To anyone considering this I would say just get it. Its a real quality item, does exactly what its supposed to, well designed and built and great performance.

Quality Cooler
Used this on a small PC build, on a MATX motherboard. The cooler is nice and small, so fits anything. For my motherboard (an Asus) there was tons of room for the RAM and large heat-sinks the motherboard has. There was also plenty of clearance from the M2 slot, which makes a pleasant change. Being Noctua, it is expensive, but the quality is high. It arrived well packed, with everything you need, including a long reach screwdriver. There are instructions inside, and also plenty of videos online. Instructions are very clear and precise. It assembles easily and with little chance of a mistake. The backplate is metal, not cheap plastic. The only difficulty is trying to get the tension in the two main screws about the same. It mentions how to tighten up the screws in the video. In short, tighten them until they stop moving but do not use a lot of force. As soon as they stop moving, they are done. Everything does as it should. Mounted normally, the cooler blows air out of the left and right sides. But the fan slightly overlaps the top and bottom, so it blows some cold air down those sides too. So all sides get air, which is good for surrounding components, especially any M2 SSD you have fitted. I ended up replacing the 15mm fan with a 25mm fan. The Noctua NF-A9 PWM chromax black. It’s basically the same fan as supplied with the cooler, but 25mm thick instead of 15mm. It happened there was enough room, so why not? I didn’t measure the difference, but the NF-A9 Static Pressure is better than 50% more so it must make a significant difference. Oh, and by the way, 25mm fans do fit because Noctua are really clever and there are two sets of indents on the heat-sink so the fan clips work with both sizes of fan. This is a mid-range cooler, and I think it's real strength lies in the fact that it is so small, it won't have many compatibility issues. It is not the most powerful cooler, but for low power builds it's perfect. Highly recommended.

Attention to detail
Fantastic quality heatsink and fan as always from Noctua. I wouldn't buy anything else. All of my Noctua reviews will have a star knocked off until they stop including that terrible dangerous screwdriver. The included screwdriver is needed if you want to mount the heatsink to your motherboard without detaching the fan (as it's skinny and long). The problem is it has a very poor quality chrome plating that flakes off on the first use. If you're not very careful you'll end up with conductive chrome flecks on your motherboard just waiting to cause a short and kill it as soon as you power your nice new machine on. It didn't need the chrome coating - be careful. It's a shame as my first Noctua (over 3 years ago) also came with the same terrible screwdriver which flaked chrome that time as well so they've had long enough to fix it. You should still only buy Noctua.

Uno dei dissipatori migliori a questo prezzo, forse non il più bello esteticamente, ma esiste anche la versione black per davvero pochi euro in più. Silenziosissimo, e rispetto al dissipatore stock a carico massimo ho in media poco più di 10 gradi in meno. Può essere utilizzato anche per un leggero overclock della cpu in qualche caso, ma per l'overclock si dovrebbe comprare il noctua che sta al doppio del prezzo e se si ha un case/scheda madre che consento il montaggio, è ingombrante. Io l'ho montato su una gigabyte z370, ci entra benissimo. Consiglio di montarlo in 2 persone, e se non avete il case aperto dietro, e avete già montato il pc, dovete smontare tutto, siccome ha la "griglia"dietro. Montaggio spiegato passo per passo davvero molto bene in un comodissimo e piccolo libretto di istruzioni. in oltre nel pacco sono inclusi anche il cacciavite e pasta termica della noctua, non la migliore in assoluto, ma comunque è davvero molto buona. Assolutamente consigliato come prodotto, silenziosità e basse temperature, uno dei migliori best buy, se non vi interessano colori e lucine, ma una dissipazione che funziona davvero.

Everything is missing.. the toolkit was missing.. the screws were missing.. the cooler was used and had a thermal compound on it.. the thermal compound itself was missing ..n the main Mount was missing.. it shipped from Calcutta XRIG sales ..

Acheté pour remplacer le ventilateur de base qui avait beaucoup de mal à garder mon i5-10400F en dessous de 80°C en pleine charge, et donc entraînait un bridage pour stabiliser la température. Montage très facile mais attention parfois le socle de maintien du refroidisseur est soudé à la carte mère. Sur ma P03-600 de chez Acer c'était le cas. Pas de panique, il suffit d'acheter 4 vis à têtes cylindriques M3 0.5x12 pour fixer le bloc. Montage ultra facile et rapide. Les résultats sont très impressionnants, 70°C en pleine charge (ce qui arrive rarement maintenant, puisqu'il n'y a plus de bridage), sinon je tourne en moyenne à 50°C. Mon système est à 21°C. Très compact il est vraiment super bien pensé et son ventilateur est très silencieux. Noctua mérite très largement sa si bonne réputation.
