Winsor & Newton Series 7 Kolinsky Sable Water Colour Brush, N2

I don't know whether I just got lucky after reading all the negative reviews on series 7 brushes but mine arrived in perfect condition. This is my first Kolinksy Sable brush and I wanted to see how much difference there was with synthetic brushes. I think the main difference is the amount of paint it will hold which allows me to paint for longer without reloading the brush. Also, for such a small brush it can cover quite a large area, making it very versatile. The fine point allows me to paint very small details and fine lines. When dry the brush has quite a fluffy appearance unlike synthetic brushes, but as soon as it is dipped in water it regains it's sleek shape, also it doesn't have the snap that synthetic brushes have but that is to be expected. Overall, a really nice brush that has become my go-to along with my larger Silver Black Velvets.

More affordable brushes are available but after noticing many of my favourite artists using this brush I took the leap (I know, peer-pressured by instagram - the shame!) Pleased to say I'm extremely happy with this item in terms of quality and functionality. Ideal for detailed hatching and line-work in my comic art.

Windsor & Newton Series 7 are the benchmark for great brushes in my opinion. I use them to paint miniatures and they last for a long time when taken good care of. A little bit on the more expensive side, so not suited for people on a budget but overall a good investment. The brush arrived well protected in a plastic tube, and the tip was well formed upon receiving.

If your painting Models then buy this brush . The detail you pick out with this brush is amazing. Tip stay's as a tip and the size of the brush means you can carry so much more paint so less dipping into the pallet. These were recommended to me by a friend who has had some of his brush's for over 10 years and they are still fit for use. People you are wasting your money on other brushes stop and buy these

Poor quality for the price, I have had 3 of the w&n brushes point go on me now and will not be buying anymore. The last one was barely used before the point split and is now unusable. For the premium price they are not premium quality and do not last no matter how well you look after them. Will stick to other premium bands from now on.

Completely amazing brush. Size 2 is perfect for not too many loads and holding lots of paint. Tip is the best I own

I have used Windsor&Newton series 7 brushes for many years. As a professional artist, only the best will do. I've tried other watercolour brushes, but nothing else comes up to the standard I require for my finely detailed work.

This was the first time I tested these brushes and now they are my new favourites. Really like the fine point on them

I've used WN Series 7 brushes for a long time. They're the best brushes I've used. I've tried pure Kolinsky sable brushes from Raphael and Escoda as well but the WN ones seem to hold up better than the other brands. I'd recommend getting a brush soap to maximize the life of these brushes but honestly, they should last for months of regular use and still hold a point regardless. For you miniature painters out there, don't use this brush to scoop paint out of the pots or drybrush. That will ruin it. Also, try to avoid using metallic paints with this brush as the mica in metallic paints will also ruin the bristles on this brush.

Maquettiste, je suis amené à réaliser de très fins détails au pinceau avec des peintures acryliques (Prince August) ou enamels (Tamiya, Humbrol, Revell) et ce pinceau est d'une précision fantastique. C'est simple, il vous obéit aux doigts (pluriel volontaire) et à l'oeil. Il m'avait été recommandé par un des plus grands maîtres de la discipline, Juan Manuel Villalba, à qui je voue un véritable culte! Bien sûr, ce pinceau n'est logiquement pas donné mais la qualité a un prix et, bien entretenu (nettoyage par simple trempage dans la solution appropriée en cuve ultra sons), il va se rendre fort utile fort longtemps. Noter que le pinceau est conditionné dans un tube protecteur transparent, en plus de l'habituel petit tube protège-poils. Noter aussi que, au premier abord, le pinceau peut sembler gros, mais en fait, sa pointe est aussi fine qu'un pinceau 5/0 et la masse de ses poils en amont permet justement de bien charger le pinceau en peinture, comme dans la calligraphie japonaise. Il faudra, après prélèvement de la peinture, drainer le pinceau tout en le tournant sur lui-même, sur du papier absorbant, et à vous de jouer...
