Would this product be suitable for a small child to use getting in and out of a (fairly) steep back door?

Very strong, obviously does not fit right across the step. Our back door is 9.5" high and the step rests on a rubber mat which is fine for my husband who is very unsteady and has problems walking. He holds onto the door frame too. The width of the base of the door frame must be taken into account with a child, walking or crawling, even when holding the door frame to ensure door does not close on fingers. as ours is 6" wide from inside door frame then the raised sill and then the door ledge but as the description says the step is a half height step, which is correct for our front door 7" high. You do not mention child's age. You could try the mobility shops they might sell one that will fit the door width. Even if you buy 1 you could always return it if it is not suitable. Nevertheless we could never do without our two. Hope this helps.

Can you tell me if the top of the step is grey as I do not want it white.

I actually need it for indoors as I have rather a high step to get out onto my balcony, Want to know if it would slip on my kitchen floor tiles.

We have two, one indoors and one outside.They are both very stable so I do not think you will have any trouble with it slipping.
