No joke - it's my life saviour
Update after 4 days of use: I'm devastated again - it only works for a couple of hours when the puppy is tired and he's back on normal... he's been barking and howling for the whole 3 hours after the first couple of hours (where it worked) when left alone... Not sure if I should give another chance at this and purchase diffuser or not :( -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I am seriously about to cry out of hapiness. My 4 months old whippet puppy has a severe separation anxiety, which is likely to be because I got him during the christmas holiday where I made a huge mistake of not getting him used to be left alone. He would whine, howl and bark nonstop the whole time I was out, even if it was just for 1 minute. I had to figure out the way he can stay alone so I researched so much, read almost every article on internet about separation anxiety. Spent the whole two weeks during christmas/new years time working from home and trying to train him using all different kinds of methods including behavioural modification suggested by behaviourist but he just couldnt stay calm for more than 10 mins and bark and scratch the door which broke my heart as I really wanted him to be comfortable without me. I tried to ignore him a lot and crate train him etc so that he can be more independent, but he just continued to be clingy and anxious when left alone. Neighbours began to complain about the noise and I was getting so stressed and devastated as I really had to start going into office soon and I couldn't keep asking my sister to dogsit him during the day nor could I put him to daycare as he was too young for it. Apart from the behaviour modification I also tried: thundershirt, crate training and spray collar. Non of them worked, and I came across this while searching for my last resort solution. The same day I also consulted vet about the issue because I was simply desperate, and they also recommended this. But I was very very skeptical that this would work... It's the second day he's wearing this today, and as usual I gave him some toys and food and came out of my house leaving my facetime on with my macbook and iphone (which was why I knew he had separation anxiety). He normally would follow me to door and try to come out even if there were delicious food lying around at home, but this time he started eating food while I was coming out. Now that was the first surprise. He would then just eat it for 15 mins and didnt even notice that I wasnt around anymore. He then finished the food and he would just check out the door and entire house and realise that I wasn't around anymore, but he just went to his usual spot and just sat down elegantly. And after a couple of minutes he just went to sleep.... and it's been 2 hours. He's just sleeping, and if I make some noise outside, mimicking people passing by, he would wake up to listen, check out the door once again briefly, then go back to his usual spot and sleep again. I seriously just cannot believe what I am seeing right now. As I am out watching over him using face time now I am writing this insanely long essay review cause I am simply blown away. I never really write review especially not an essay like this but I just had to given the amount of time and money I've invested to cure him from separation anxiety and the stress I got over the past 3 weeks. Now, I am not saying this would work for every dogs out there, just like how thundershirt apparently does wonders to many dog with anxiety but did not do a thing to mine, but I highly recommend to at least give a go at this if you tried everything like me and really want to calm your dog long term (not using things like spray collar which doesnt calm your dog but rather scare them). This is seriously my life savour, will also purchase the diffuser as theis thing just works on my dog and it’s more than just worth it. Thank you so much Adaptil.

This product has transformed my life and that of my 2 yr old cockapoo!
Rarely do I leave a review. I work on the principle that if in the 'old days' of pen and paper I would have been compelled to write a letter of commendation or complaint, then I will 'leave a review' in the modern world! When my now 2 yr old cockapoo came to live with me as a 12 week old pup, both my mother and daughter lived with me. My mother never left the house. When Covid struck I immediately moved over to working from home. When restrictions were lifted, my daughter moved out and my mother moved into a care home following a long stay in hospital, but I was at home all day everyday. So until March/April this year, Topsy Wiffle Waffle had never spent any time alone. Ever. Consequently, the attachment issues have been extensive, with TWW screaming and crying if I even go into the bathroom and shut the door. Her panic and trauma when I left the room was immense, and on my part, soul destroying. If I went outside to put the bins out, for example, she would paw and scrape at the window whilst howling. I tried to ease her in gently, and used lots of different tips and techniques to occupy her, but my Hive hub was sending me around 60-100 notifications per hour when I was out of the house to say a dog was barking. Each notification has a 1or 2 second sound recording and every one was TWW screaming and howling. The distress was devastating and worrying. I purchased this collar and popped it straight on. Within one day, the constant, agitated panting had eased. Within a couple of days, TWW would watch me go upstairs, shutting the stair gate behind me, make a pathetic little whimper and then go and lie down in the lounge. Yesterday was recycling day. TWW didn't move off the couch whilst I went in and out with all the recycling bins. And today, my gosh, today really has been an incredible turning point. I left TWW at home alone for an hour and a half whilst I did some shopping... I received 7 notifications! In less than a week this product has changed our lives. I have gone from feeling sad and hopeless about our future to feeling so positive about my wonderful little friend. I have kept my eye as I know some reviews have mentioned irritation around the collar, but so far I see no sign of any issue. I cannot sing the praises of this item enough.

Disappointing results
I don't normally write reviews but felt I should for this. This product gets a lot of mixed reviews. I have a Jack Russell who is a rescue dog from our local council run kennals. She is our 4th Jack Russell so we know the breed very well. We have had her 2.5 years and she is only 4.5 year old. Fire works scare her and make her pant and tremble. We have tried building her a den in a cage for her own space, holding her and talking to her the reassure her, medication which she will not take no matter how hard we try and hide it in treats / food etc and adaptil plug in also. None of these have worked. This collar is the same does not do anything. When we were at the vets for a yearly booster we spoke with the vet who said to get the collar. Which she said should also help in trips to the vet. As she gets stressed going to the vets also. I think next year we will talk to the vet about them giving her medication to combat the way she gets. In my view its a waste of money but not all dogs are the same the way humans are all different. This may work as some reviews have said but it may not. If you're happy to try fingers crossed you get a good result because it seems like that's the way it goes.

Unlisted Side Effects, False Pregnancy Triggered. Use with caution!
Seems to be a number of side effects that can happen, yet none are listed which is very concerning when clearly from reviews here and our experience, there are many. Our dog didn’t have the skin symptoms and we thought it might be helping her be calm at first, keeping her “under threshold” more easily so we could work on her reactivity training. It lessened her reactivity to dogs and bikes, but started creating weird new behaviours two weeks in: Hugely reduced appetite (would go full day without food) Stopped taking chews/chewing (from pigs ear, pork bone with ham on, pizzle bone etc) Not settling in evening at all (usually would settle with a chew) Shaking excessively before walks, at squirrels and random times like when let out for loo Wanting to play before bed Previous trained behaviours disappeared (settle in bed when were eating, going to bed at night with dentastick) Nesting more in bed and on blankets Carrying dentastick/toy and crying Trying to bury/hide dentastick/toy in bed or outside Crying at toy to be let into her crate at night And then by week 3; she started lactating. She’s had a “false pregnancy” previously which can happen after a season. This collar seemed to trigger it again (it was not directly after her season, definitely not coinciding with when we put it on). Within an hour of taking it off, she was settling better, eating and within about 24 hours she was completely back to herself. I’d say it’s worth trying and that every dog is different. It certainly has hormones that can trigger an effect; I’d just forewarn any owners with dogs that have previously had false pregnancies, keep a close eye on them as this clearly triggered it in our poor pup.

It definately works, off to buy another!
This adaptil collar has been brilliant for my puppy. He wasn't over anxious but did display certain traits of separation anxiety. He has had the collar removed now as it stopped working after about 6 weeks although it is advertised as only being effective for 4 weeks. I can definately see a difference in him as he has become very clingy and whines and barks if separated from me in his crate for house training and travel, even if he can still see me. I will definately be ordering another one as I feel it has really helped. However it is not a cure for just any arising misbehaviour and I have taken my puppy to a training class which is run by an association of pet dog trainers (APDT) qualified trainer to make sure I am training him correctly as he is hopefully going to become my assistance dog eventually. As regards fit Of the collar I found that once set to the correct tightness (touching the skin) I found that when we had to get hold of puppy the collar did keep slipping even though we had gotten hold of his normal dog collar, however this was easily solved by wrapping a peice of micropore tape around the fastening to stop it from slipping, we also secured the loose end with micropore tape. You must keep checking every few days though that the collar wasn't becoming too tight and to loosen the collar to the appropriate fit as the puppy grows. Also note that it is not a collar to put a lead onto, it is worn in addition to that. As we are getting him to swim now and the fact that he sometimes needs a wash we do take it off when he is going to get wet so it doesn't become ineffective. This is a brilliant example of how science helps and I can thoroughly recommend it.

Caused itching within 30 min of wearing- allergic reaction
My dog wore the collar for 1 hour and has been scratching non-stop for a day days. The Adaptil collar caused an allergic reaction. My dog is very uncomfortable. It was a mistake to use the product. I’ve been trying to find more information on side effects and there is not much on the web which in my view is more of a sign of lack of transparency than anything else.
