More like a School-M(aru) - Great for fine detail, but unsuitable for general inking work.
The School-G comes in two (as far as I'm aware) nib sizes; fine and extra fine. This review is for the 'fine'. Perhaps it's too small a niche to generate competition but whatever the reason a cartridge-powered G-Pen remains a curious gap in the market. The School-G offers a partial solution. Technically it behaves as a G-Pen should - more pressure increases the line weight - but because the nib is very stiff the pressure needed for the boldest lines is excessive. The nib is also very sharp. In combination this means that unless you're using some quality Bristol board then it's likely to tear up the surface. And even using appropriate paper you can run your fingers across your work and feel just how deeply the School-G leaves its mark. If you're looking to do some bold inking work with this pen then you've bought the wrong tool. However.....if you ease off the pressure then the School-G excels at fine detail work. It responds best to gentler handling and rewards you with incredibly fine lines, really beautiful (I've ordered the Extra Fine on this basis). Because the ink flow is relatively dry, hatching, for example, comes out really nice - there's no ink blob at the end of each stroke that a regular fountain pen might leave behind. On the other hand the miserly ink flow means writing and rough sketching are best left to other pens in your collection. So - it's stiff, designed for thin lines with some variation, and will rip your paper to shreds if you're not careful. Yes, despite the misleading name the School-G is in fact a cartridge-powered Maru-Pen, and a good one too. But it's not a G-Pen - if you want G-Pen performance look elsewhere. If you work to its strengths rather than try and force it into a job for which it's not designed you'll likely appreciate the results the School-G delivers.

Good product and good price
I was supposed to get this until early August but it arrived a lot sooner when I ordered in mid July. It took some getting use to as it is a proper old fashioned ink pen and these days we are used to ball pointed, etc but once I got the hang of it I loved it. I'm still waiting on the refills which I read they do take longer to deliver but not sure why my pen arrived so quickly when my refills are still not even here yet.
