I’m not sure where this author came from but all of a sudden my 10 year old is obsessed with these books. Taking storylines from all sorts of fairytales wizard of the Oz and all sorts of other fantasy stories it creates a complete fantasy world where anything is possible and everything is intertwined. My daughter is absolutely obsessed with these books and has read at least six or seven of books from them and Many of them multiple times. I have not personally read any of these, but feel that I could probably tell you most of the stories based on what my daughter tells me while reading these it is a genuinely interesting composite of many storylines you are completely familiar with however, it feels completely new and exciting as you were listening to them .

My daughters LOVED this series! Bought for Christmas and she couldn't put it down & has borrowed to her friends who also enjoyed it. 10/10.

An excellent prequel to The Land of Stories. Mixed on the last book.

Nice stories exactly what it shows

First I’d like to say that everything came in good condition and brand new. I also read this series pretty much immediately after I reread The Land of Stories This series is a prequel to The Land of Stories. It kind of feels like a series meant for readers that read TLoS when it was newer and have grown up a bit. I read the original series around 9-10 and I’m now 18(and still a huge fan of TLoS and definitely still enjoyed this story). It definitely brings that same magic and excitement as the original stories. However, it’s definitely a bit more mature covering more serious topics such as religious trauma, sexuality, race, gender, loss of faith+. Some are outright and some are very take it as you will. Although I think the topics are handled carefully enough, parents might want to look over it before letting young kids read as it feels a lot heavier than TLoS. It wasn’t what I was expecting but personally I’m not complaining about it. Setting as a prequel I think gave more space for those serious topics than I think a sequel would. This is my only issue. There are plot holes. I’ve finished almost all of the last book by now and none of the plot holes are explained so far; I’m assuming they won’t be. I do think it’s nice that Colfer tried to mix in as many little hints/references/allusions to TLoS as made sense, but some of those made what seemed to me like plot holes. It added a lot more world building but kind of sacrificed some of the original information. I’ve personally just tried to mentally fill them in however I can, but even those don’t make complete sense. If you’re just looking for an interesting story with magic and don’t get too hung up on plot holes (or haven’t read TLoS yet/don’t plan to) its definitely a good read. I don’t mind it too much and I’d definitely read it again.

These books were very much enjoyed by my 9 Yr old and 11yr old sons. Would recommend!

One of the best collections of stories I have ever come across! What a wonderful imagination the author has, putting his own spin on stories we all know and love. If you want to feel like a kid again, you have to give these books a try.

The print is the prefect size. Books are easy to read and captures you in.
