If you are looking for a keyboard to replace the discontinued Microsoft Ergonomic keyboard, this is it. Its keys don't have as much resistance as I'd like, but once I trained myself to not strike the keys as hard, it was acceptable. Where the keyboard excels is in 2 areas of design: (1) You can separate the number pad from the rest of the keyboard. This means that the keyboard balances perfectly on my lap when I type; (2) the keyboard is SLEEK. I can fit it in a backpack, no problem (especially since it doesn't need to have the number pad attached), which is HUGE. I have gnarly cubital tunnel syndrome issues, so typing on a laptop is a no-go. being able to bring this keyboard with me wherever I go (conference room, airport lounge, etc.) is a game-changer!

Been using wave, split keyboard style keyboards for maybe decades. Forget when I got my first Microslop Natural Keyboard Elite but still have three PS2 ones that are working fine. The key strokes are pretty long on those so was looking for maybe a mechanical switch board and would have spent up to $200.00 to get one that was a split design and a waive, like this one. But guess what? Couldn't find one at any price. Was going to go with the new Microslop wired ones, not a fan of baby sitting dongles and batteries, for roughly twice the price of this one, but saw some scary reviews. You don't know if they are for real or just someone with a personal problem. Then saw some good reviews for this one and for the price, was thinking it has to beat the stock Dell sub $20.00, maybe sub $10.00 even, keyboard that was given to me by my work. So actually ordered 3 of these thinking what the heck, I can send them back if they blow, and then I can keep them and happy day for me if they are OK or better. Happy Day! They are better! One review stated that they feel cheap. They weigh just about exactly the same as my MS boards are almost exactly the same size and shape. Just so I could say I did it, I torqued them from the ends. My natural 190 lb frame could likely snap it but they are just about as solid as the my old MS boards: talking about the range of a few pounds of pressure difference nothing major. That is, if all you want to to is type on them, thinking that they are plenty solid enough to last for years. When I checked all three boards, one had a slight separation between the top part and the bottom on the underside of board where you can't see it while using it on the left hand side, [the top and bottom are screwed together much like a laptop computer is] but again, very minor, maybe .005 - .010 of an inch for about 3 inches. Think maybe you could work a match book cover into it if you spent the time and tried hard. This turned out to be a result of the twist I gave them as the top and bottom parts are "keyed" and the male tab came out of its slot. A small push and it was back in place. The other two were perfect and don't see how that is going to make any difference anyway. They are well built and the key action is shorter than the old boards. It uses almost exactly the same layout as the old boards with the arrow keys being closer to the delete buttons. All this works for me. Can type faster, but for me that's maybe 80 - 90 wpm in bursts. If you want the worlds fastest keyboard, them maybe go with a mechanical switch type. For me, this is a very satisfying keyboard. The buttons on the top also work with Linux a bit so another plus if you too use multiple operating systems with the same keyboards. Ordered two more. These are great and for the price I was willing to pay for one mechanical switch board, I have 5 of these. I have been using one of these daily at work 8 hours a day for months now and no issues.

UPDATE: I was about to really get a new keyboard but wanted to try one last thing, which involves actually popping keys off. I did not want to do this, and I imagined the keys would either break or would not go back on again successfully. But actually, on this keyboard, it's easy to pop keys off or on, and by doing this I was able to get the cat hair out of the keyboard which was causing so many problems. So, now I have upgraded my score to 4 stars and I'm very happy with the keyboard again. ORIGINAL REVIEW: I was very happy with the keyboard. In fact, yesterday I was showing it to my coworkers and telling them how good it is. It's very comfortable and easy to type on. The left CTRL key on mine was slightly sticky, but this was super minor. After 22 months, today most of the keys started printing very random things, or taking other actions like opening file explorer. I have another keyboard which works perfectly, so it's hard to see how this could be a software issue. I also tried cleaning this out with an air compressor, but it had zero effect. Oh well, it was great for a while.

Long review ahead: short version, just buy it and try it. You won't be returning it, trust me! This is not only an absolutely fantastic SPLIT style keyboard, but also one of the best in terms of key/tactile feel I've ever owned. I've tried all the usual mechanical keyboards, blue & brown switches (way overrated IMO) along with the legendary buckling spring switches. Yes, this is a rubber dome keyboard, BUT, it feels to me anyhow like a quiet and lighter touch buckling spring keyboard (think IBM Model M) without all the racket a buckling spring or cherry blue switch (or even brown) keyboard can make. It has a nice tactile snap to the keys and sounds similar to a Topre keyboard (youtube it) and has a nice muffled "thock" type sound, no clacky-ness at all. Even the larger stabilized keys are mostly quiet, and the one or two that aren't can be made quiet by adding a little white grease lube (search amzn for elite keyboards grease) to the metal stabilizer underneath the key after carefully removing it with a keycap puller or very carefully prying off. This keyboard has a little shorter key travel distance than a full key height keyboard; about 80%, but is just enough shorter that it is actually a better travel distance IMO and allows for a very quick and light touch to the keys, but still gives that satisfying "press" you get on a full travel keyboard. As noted above, the key feel is light, but not too light and has a nice tactile snap (think buckling spring) that you will not get with the overrated mx brown style switch. The split of the board is perfect and puts your hands, arms and shoulders in a very natural position for typing, and also has a full size wrist rest to place the palms of your hands when not actively typing. One thing some folks may complain about is the arrow/home key cluster; do not let that deter you from trying this board. I actually prefer this layout as it allows your trackball (or mouse) to come in closer to your hands than if they used the standard ibm layout. Once you get used to the more condensed layout of the arrow keys and home/end/delete cluster, you'll realize it is very very logically laid out and actually makes more sense. So IMO I believe it's truly a better layout than the older IBM format. Your mileage may vary. I've been using split keyboards since the original MS one came out in the late 90's and this Perixx split keyboard is very similar to the old MS elite version, but much better. The key feel and overall construction along with a split spacebar make THIS keyboard the best split keyboard you can buy, not to mention it's an incredible value also. I pair this board with a Logitech M570 trackball and it's a match made in heaven. My hands and wrists never experience pain and typing on this board is so comfortable and the muted/quiet, light snappy tactile feedback is incredible. I have never enjoyed a keyboard more than this one. It hits ALL the checkboxes. I'd happily pay 2-3 times what they charge for it also. And have for other boards that couldn't hold a candle to this one. If you are new to split keyboards, use this one solely for a week and you will not go back to a non-split board ever again, and when/if you have to use a "normal" keyboard you'll wonder how you ever did. This board has full-size keys, though (as a previous reviewer noted) the keys between the main keys and the number keys are skinnier (up/down/left/right, etc). The ergonomic split between the hands is perfect. The keys have a lighter touch than the ergonomic keyboard I used to use (spilled orange juice on that one, took it apart to clean it up, but putting it back together again caused the keys to malfuntion, so I'm now in this new keyboard). I'm getting used to the lighter touch, but to me it is not a negative that they feel lighter (just different). One thing I simply could not get used to was the three keys at the bottom left: "Ctrl, Windows (corresponding to Mac's Command key), Alt (corresponding to Mac's Option key)." Since the Mac keyboard has the Command and Option keys the other way around, and since I've used Macs for so long, I simply could not get used to the new configuration. So I went to the Apple menu, chose System Preferences, chose Keyboard, then clicked on the "modifier keys" button at the bottom right of that screen. That brought up the ability to switch the Windows key into an Option key, and the Alt key into the Command key, thus reversing those two keys. At first, I thought I'd paste the correct designation onto each key, but quickly realized that if I simply relied on muscle memory, I'd be fine. So I've got a perfectly usable keyboard working, and for a great price. I tried the little silver buttons at the top, and the only one that worked was the "sleep" button. I'm guessing there's a way to program those to work with my Mac, but those are extras I never expected, and don't have time to worry about, anyway. That sleep key will come in handy, though! Being an electronic device, I did take out the insurance offered, since I could not find any brand of keyboard for which at least someone did not complain about it suddenly stop working. BTW, I got the black keyboard since it reduces the light that comes to my eyes (I have my display's color on a less bright mode, and I reversed my Mac screen to have black instead of white on anything I could. This makes it easier on my eyes for all the hours I spend writing.) Also, BTW, I've had better luck with Perixx products over the years.

WOW! That is the word that comes to mind when I think of this ergonomic keyboard by Perixx! I have used an MS Ergonomic 4000 keyboard for years and when my last one finally bit the dust I decided to give another brand a try. I am over the moon with that decision now! This keyboard COMPLETELY EXCEEDS the expectations I held for it!! It's a plug and play board and worked IMMEDIATELY with no hesitation whatsoever straight out of the box! I didn't have to program anything for it at all. It immediately directed the hotkeys to where they needed to be and everything worked flawlessly. I am so impressed with this board I may never return to MS for another Ergo 4000! The keys are easy to use with its touch-type functioning and I don't have to pound away at them to get them to work. The ergonomic split of the keys is more comfortable than the MS 4000 and the way the board sits a bit higher is actually much more comfortable on my wrists. I'm a writer and after working for several hours straight, my wrists were not aching like usual. I was beyond impressed! The overall look of the board is nice as well, with plenty of space for your essential typing and everything between the letters and the number pad arranged in a better side by side configuration that shortens the overall length of the board making it a space saver on top of everything else. The feel of the keys and board itself is nice as well. You know it's plastic, but it's a higher quality and the slight texture of it overall is pretty nice. My first reaction is Perixx has gained a new lifelong customer if this keyboard stands up to the grueling workouts I will give it on a constant basis!

Unfortunately missed my return deadline by 3 days so I guess I'm stuck with it now. Trying to replace the old MS ergonomic keyboard, which I have had four of. Calculated, and my average price (over a number of years) was $20. Unfortunately have the letters off half the keys on all of them. Tried the new MS model - which I really disliked. Mushy and doesn't tilt and various other unfortunate degenerations (as MS does almost every time they "improve" something by making it worse. Do they ever have actual users test this crap? Same issue making Windows 11 more "efficient" by making everything all the menu and system settings take two additional keystrokes to get to where you need. Ditto the clipboard.) So I ordered this Perixx keyboard. Ahem. Love the touch. Love the sound of the keys. Keyboard seems sturdy and made well. So I tried to get used to it. BUT: the spacebar keys are too high. My fingers keep bumping them, which puts spaces in between letters. I thought I might be able to get used to it, but it means I have to keep my hands/fingers slightly arched up above the keyboard. Can't really leave the heels of my hands resting on the "landing strip" below the keys. Which is DEFINITELY not "ergonomic." Also the keyboard doesn't have a dedicated calculator key, which I use constantly, so I have to switch to the mouse to access it. Also - the two "halves" of the split keyboard are not angled out enough at the bottom, so my wrists wind up angled just slightly too much toward my thumbs. Not so much that it was immediately obvious, but enough that after using it for a while it has become uncomfortable. The worst thing though (to me) is that the home/end/page up/page down keys have been switched with the delete & insert keys which are now below them. I thought I would be able to get used to that - but the six keys are directly above the arrow keys, and so close to the keypad and main keyboard that there is no where to rest my fingers. Which means I have to hold them up above the keys (see space bar), and my fingers can't stay oriented to the keys. So overall I'm having a lot of trouble using the keyboard and am sorry I ordered it, given that it's taken me this long to really think through the issues and realize they are not going to go away. Have been working a lot the past few days, and am having pain in my left wrist as I write this. But as I said, my thirty days ran out three days ago - so I'm stuck with it. Guess I have to find something else. Give this one to the Goodwill? Stick it in the closet for emergencies? Us it as a very large paper weight? Sigh. I'm sure the designers meant well (obviously). And as I said, I love the touch and the sound. So maybe it will work for you, but it's kind of a lemon for me. So if you order it - put a tickler in your calendar to remind you when the return date is coming up.

This keyboard is exactly what I was looking for. It is bigger than a normal keyboard.

Overall the keyboard is good BUT you need to get used to the placement of the arrow keys and Home, End, Delete etc. Because they are not located as usual and it is quite hard to use them blindly/automatically.

Este teclado facilita la escritura rápida, y por su diseño ergonómico tan bien pensado evita mucha de la tensión que se acumula en períodos largos de trabajo al utilizar un teclado normal. Es un poco grande ―aunque no el más pesado que he tenido―, pero esa misma característica lo hace más cómodo. Lo único que le faltaría es que fuera inalámbrico, pero aun así estoy muy contento con él. Lo recomiendo ampliamente.
