Hi CNA,I had a similar problem with the Proxxon but I was soldering 4mm brass rods together and the Rothenberger was the solution. Important is that you heat up the entire object before you solder the actual part together and the Rothenberger was perfect for that. It might be a bit scary in the beginning but you will get use to it and it can be quite fun. I used Borax as flux by the way. So the right flux for the wire is important too.Good luckF.

Can this microflam be locked on, as in a continuous flame without having to hold a switch own?

Yes, with the valve turned to the open position, the gas flows continuously. The pushbutton on the back is only to make a spark to light the flame.

This torch is delivered without gas. What gas canister do you buy for it to work - is it Butane Gas and what size of canister fits?

Your best option is to buy one of the butane cannisters that comes with half a dozen different adapters to press onto the cannister's outlet tube that will fit any butane device. The one that works is a medium-sized cylindrical shape. Be sure to buy the most highly-refined butane available. Cheaper brands will eventually clog the gas orifice in the burner, rendering it useless.
