Sort yourself out
I've had terrible posture for a number of years now, brought on by a sporting injury and compounded by 7-8 hours a day sat behind a monitor, the rest slouching on a sofa. To some degree this book told me things I already knew, about how bad posture can affect bad health and why. What it did tell me is that while Osteopathy and Physiotherapy is good, it's treating the symptom, not the cause of pain. The cause of pain is generally laziness, because sitting with poor posture is comfortable! The exercises are very easy, and provide great relief. I'm only on week two, but I feel a slight improvement, I've also invested in the posture aids suggested in the book, a must if you're going to improve your posture. For the price it's worth it, but this book alone wont fix you. Dedication, exercise and remembering to hold the correct posture (which this book shows you) will do that!

Cured my worst pain and gave me confidence to look forward to normal activities
I had the intense pain of a broken arm just behind where a watch would be every day as a result of referred pain from my neck. It did this in the early hours so my sleep was badly affected. This pain eased with movement but it and other pains occurred through the day. Four weeks of physio didn't help. Three weeks of Mckensie exercises has solved this pain problem. I found I went back to the book every week to take stock as there is a lot of very specific detail which I didn't absorb fully until underway. This is partly because, done properly the exercises require an unusual muscular action you develop over time. In effect he advises that the exercises are done hourly (while awake). This book enabled me to substantially cure my neck and gives me the confidence to resume my nornal activities. I assume these exercises will always be necessary for me, regularly and after activities which challenge my neck.

For neck pain - really useful!
I was recommended to buy this book by my GP and it was good advice. For anyone who wants to know how to ease chronic or acute neck pain and prevent further problems, this is a very practical and useful book. It reduces the need for pain-killers, saves money and also reduces the possibility of unwanted side-effects. The book contains useful anatomical background information as well as exercises which can be used daily to prevent problems from occurring or recurring. Standing, sitting and sleep positions are covered and all the exercises are straightforward and realtively safe.

Treat Your Own Neck FABULOUS book
Amazing book - by Robin McKenzie, I highly recommend. Lots of helpful photos & diagrams, easy book to read a little at a time, it's fab if you don't want chapters and chapters of unnecessary waffle. Totally described my pain (arthritis in neck) and the simple exercises it recommends really do help. It's a slim A5 size that fits in your handbag if you wanted to read whilst travelling! There is also one called "Treat Your Own Back" which I'll also be buying!

Exercises for your Neck
This book Treat your own neck, falls short of being very helpful to sufferers of muscular neck pains, like myself. I learned only one useful tip, that was to utilise a small foam roll on your pillow to enable a good nights sleep.

Everybody should have a copy of this book!
I have the kindle version of this title and just bought this paperback for my mum. I think it was my GP who recommended it. I have poor posture and work at a desk, so I tend to build up a ton of tension in the upper back, shoulders, and neck. This can go on further to lead to tension headaches, which lead to a habit of taking anti-inflammatories. I try to improve my posture and I used to think I was doing some useful stretches. Then I came across this book and realized why the stretches I used to do were not much use. I started implementing the stretches detailed here and the difference is like night and day. If I'm good and do them regularly they prevent problems building up. If I neglect my posture and tension does accumulate they allow me to recover and get everything moving again. When I think back to how often I used to take NSAIDs for tension headaches, given what I now know about how bad they are for my body, I wish I'd found this book years ago.

Delivery took a while but worth it
Ordered 2 Aug and arrived 10 days later, not good when you're in pain and desperate for the book. But since arrival, and reading it, it is very helpful. The exercises are very clear and I now have almost full movement in my neck. The information contained in the book is in depth and you will quickly be aware of the importance of posture etc. I would recommend if you have persistent neck and shoulder issues as this book outlines preventative methods going forward long term.
