Essential tool, whether you're decorating, rearranging or building!
Just bought a condo and starting from scratch on furniture, area rugs, etc. I have drawn out some rooms already, and am finding it very helpful with designing the furniture arrangements I want and take it with me when shopping. Some have criticized the scale of graph paper, and I think they are just using it wrong. Two squares equal 1 foot, there are darker lines showing a foot with a lighter line in middle, making it much easier than regular graph paper. Once I get the wood flooring down, I am going to use painter tape to outline exact furniture placement, which I think will help the movers greatly, and keep me from struggling to rearrange after they leave. When shopping, I take this book, a measuring tape, paint color fan, fabric samples, a small camera and notebook in a fun fabric tote. I have received several compliments from store decorators, they say it's very difficult to help someone without a clear idea of size needed, placement, etc. This is a very helpful item at an inexpensive price, I highly recommend it.

Great for configuring furniture for a room.
Great for reconfiguring furniture for a room. We had a huge sectional & several other large pieces in family room. Wanted to update entire room, but wanted to make sure any new furniture would fit. This kit was perfect. We were able to lay out entire room w fireplace, windows, etc, & see exactly what size furniture would fit. We looked high & low for this kit, as they used to be easy to find. Thank heavens Amazon had it!

Not perfect, but useful and easy to modify
For decades now I have used graph paper and cut out furniture shapes to plan room arrangements when I move. In this day and age there are computer programs that will allow you to do this, but for me it is helpful to be able to manipulate things in a more hands on manner. Although this kit requires some modifications, it is inexpensive enough to be worth it, since it saves me making everything from scratch. The paper used for the furniture pieces is thick and durable enough to withstand repeated handling. As others have mentioned, you might not always find the little cut-outs that match the size of your furniture exactly, but the kit provides a generous amount of furniture pieces so it is quite easy to trim another piece to size. For example, my dining table is larger than the ones provided but it was easy to trim a sofa bed that I didn't need to the exact size of my table. My first tip: I removed everything from the book and made an envelope for each room, with the room dimensions and location of windows and doors and their measurements marked on the graph paper and all the furniture pieces that I want in that room. In an additional envelope I placed all the pieces I don't need to use, just in case I need them in the future. My second tip: When I come up with a room arrangement that I like, I simply take a photo with my iPhone, and save it into a "New House" album.

Did not have pieces/dimensions for a LOT of our furniture
Worked well enough for the project I bought it for (mapping out furniture in a newly-renovated living room + dining room), but not quite as useful as I had hoped. Unfortunately, Iโd say between 1/3 and 1/2 of the furniture we own did not have representation in any of the provided options, ESPECIALLY when it came to any sort of shelving/storage/display.I expected I might run into a piece or two that didnโt have a corresponding cutout (โpop outโ is more accurate), but not nearly as many times as I did. I ended up cannibalising other furniture pieces and cutting them to the dimensions I needed, or just using some scrap paper to make them from scratch. And unfortunately, this book does NOT come with any extra pages so that you can do a similar make-your-own piece/template. Just that addition alone would be nice!I ended up making my own bookcases, recliner, entertainment center, coffee table, end tables, standing lamps, different electronics (subwoofer, tower speakers, etc), and SEVERAL different โcube storageโ units of variying dimensions. Oh, and the large โcat treeโ and stationary bike that I already expected to have to improvise. All in all, itโs a great idea, and it was somewhat helpful, but it was unfortunately NOT the time-saver Iโd anticipated it being. But it didnโt cost much, so Iโm not torn up about it (just a little annoyed)

Super Awesome Product ~ Saves Time & Man Power (moving furniture)
TO ALL THOSE COMPLAINING OF THE SCALE OF THE GRAPH PAPER AND/OR FURNITURE PIECES.......Look at the graph paper you have and find a piece of furniture that is an even 24" which is 2 feet on one side. I used the 24" x 24" chair but there are plenty of other pieces you can use.Place the piece on your graph paper and see how many squares it overs on one side, drawing around the piece or the one side onto your graph paper.I have the few sheets that came with the set, plus I bought a package of "quad" graph paper as well as another that is bound in a notebook. The sheets that came with the set as well as the quad sheets both are the same and the 24" side covers 4 squares. (24" / 4 = 6") So that means each square is a half a foot or six inches. The other paper that I have is on a smaller scale and the same 24" side covers 5 squares. (24" / 5 = 4.8") So that means each square is 4.8 inches. If you require exactness without any room for error than you will want to buy the quad paper. (I got mine at walmart and it was inexpensive.) But if you want to use what you have you can go ahead and use this. Chances are you are not going to be measuring the exact distance between your chair and the wall and the coffee table (for example) so it will be close enough to still use and appreciate this set to make the most of it.I absolutely love this set, and I can't believe I waited so long to order it. It makes my life easier because I'm not asking the hubby to move everything a dozen times before I am happy with a room layout. I can experiment on paper first. Marking the areas for windows, closets, doors etc.If you don't find the size of furniture that you need by words, go by measurements. I can't remember if it was a review on this one or another product review that I read. But someone put they couldn't find the size of their sofa, but they found another piece that did work. I believe it was a bathtub. So either flip the piece over and write on the back or trace around the piece on another piece of paper and cut it out writing what it's supposed to be. Either one will work. Or just make the piece you need based on the measurements on a spare piece of graph paper and cut it out.For items that I knew was the only place in the room for such items, such as the entertainment center or bookcases, sectional sofa. tub, toilet, bed, dresser, etc, I actually drew them into place or traced the piece on a piece of white copy paper or construction, labeled it and cut it out. Gluing it into place on my grid of the room I was working on. This just makes it much easier to work with without having pieces slide all over should you move it or bump it. Once I was happy with the furniture placement I did the same as above gluing all my pieces into place. But you could draw around the pieces to get the same effect. This way you won't lose your spot until the furniture is actually in it's new spot. Keeping it as a reference, or giving yourself several options to look over until you decide which one you want to go with. Leaving you with the actual pieces to use at another date or give to someone else to use.Because measuring each room can be daunting I did order this which made my life a whole lot easier.Laser Distance Measurer .... AKA laser tape measurehttp://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FKMS2WG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1It has a little red dot that goes across to point out the space that is being measured. The down side of using a regular tape measure is that it can sag over longer distances unless your floor area is clear to lay it straight across. But with furniture already in place this made my life easier as I could just go above the furniture and measure straight across. I highly recommend this for home projects, or anywhere you need to measure. When I measured the furniture I used two cutting boards. One on each side, held straight to get the measurement of the length and width. Just a little tip if you are needing this for the same purpose.I hope this review helps you decide if this is or isn't the right product for you.I just know it helped me out a great deal.!!!!!

a HUGE help!!!
We moved from a four bedroom house to a small 2 bedroom apartment. We had a lot of furniture that we needed to sell or donate, but we needed to know what to keep. This kit was a HUGE help!!! The kit includes many punch-out furniture pieces as well as several pages of graph paper. We measured each room of the new apartment and found punch-outs in the kit to serve as different pieces of furniture. If there wasn't a punch-out for a certain piece of furniture we had, we used another piece in the kit and relabeled it. If the punch-out wasn't exactly the right size, we measured it and cut it to size. We planned every room in our apartment using this kit and we only brought the furniture that we knew would fit and still look neat and cozy. I would STRONGLY recommend this kit. It will save you a lot of time in the long run. We are so glad we used it and are very happy with our new space.

The Scale!
Every other product here was the 1/4 to 1โ I searched for. Except this one which is 1/2โ to 1โ. So if thatโs the scale you need, great! This is probably your only option. If like the rest of us you need the standard 1/4โ this is useless. Wish it had been labeled more clearly.

Itโs very easy to work with.
It made it very easy to position and design the furniture in the new room.We thought it was great.

A waste of money
This note book arrived crinkled, as though it had been dried after being left in the rain. So not a good start. But more importantly, this is an American product, so the furniture measurements are all american. Also there are not enough rooms: one master bedroom, another bedroom and a nursery. Not helpful if you are looking to do the layout for several teenage bedrooms. But this disappointment was my doing, I should have read the details carefully before buying it. Have now bought a graph notebook and designed all the rooms perfectly myself. Should have done this in the first place.
