Not just a Great toy. Great for art & crafts too. But can be tricky to use.
Bought the ‘Original’ Spirograph set for a child. Had so much fun I bought myself this Deluxe set and I’m not disappointed.I’m using it not as a toy but as a serious piece of art equipment to create designs and greetings cards. It’s particular effective when you colour your patterns in.The Deluxe edition comes with quite a few more rings and wheels to create hundreds more pattern combinations. It also has the addition of 4 shaped wheels. These give a totally different variety of geometric shapes. It’s worth it for that alone. The box it comes in is a fairly sturdy carry case and the pens supplied are OK, but I’ll be using a whole range of coloured gel pens that I bought separately. They work particularly well.Only 2 things to be aware of.The putty they supply to hold the rings in place is not good. I prefer to use the old method of pinning it to the paper. The rings still have the holes for that. All the pieces work together beautifully, but when picking a pattern with tight bends, it does take some dexterity to keep the pen moving smoothly and not jerking across your drawing. Particularly with the shaped wheels. All in all, brilliant!! And though some younger children may struggle with some of the patterns, it doesn’t matter. It’s fun anyway.

tried and tested retro toy, a great set in a handy storage case
I loved this as a child and just bought it this year for my 5-year-old daughters Christmas. It is way more complex than I remembered, but a lot of fun. She is getting the hang of it slowly (as am I) I hope this will be a toy that keeps entertaining for many years. It is a great set, some sheets of good quality paper and 3 excellent pens are also included. the pens red, green and blue are just the right shape for the wheels (standard ball points are too large) and leave a sharp clear line with no bleeding or skipping. There is a good range of shapes and wheels in his set (some more challenging to use than other) and a guide book with deceptively simple instructions to very complex designs. It is blue tack now to hold the wheels in place instead of pins - I find you need use only a small amount or the wheel will not sit flush with the paper. The case is great. I was concerned at first because many reviews on here mention that the storage holes are too small for the wheels and lead to warping, but it appears that the manufacturer has now resolved this. all the parts fit well and would fall out of place if it were not for the plastic covers. there is storage for the pens and paper too and the velcro closure is secure and easy to use.

Good present.
Purchased for grandsons 9th birthday. He was really pleased and within a very short time had started creatingsome lovely patterns. My only gripe would be that holding the discs in place was a bit difficult. Obviously the old methodof a cork board and pins as used many moons ago would not comply with health and safety these days! I managed to survivewithout incident!! The putty like substance used now is not as efficient.Having said that it is still a really good creative product.

Good set with carry case
This is a good Spirograph set with lots of bits of equipment which store nicely in the box which is a carry/tidy case. Very happy with it. It was purchased for my daughter who is 5.5 years old and is probably a bit young to use it. She likes it and the rings can be tacked down so you just concentrate on moving the wheel which is better than the sets I remember as a child where it all moved around. It would probably be better for a 7/8 year old as a bit more control is needed to do it independently. I had no problem using it and support my daughter in her use of it. Think it will get more use as she gets older and can better control the wheels herself.

Kids love it
I have bought two of these from amazon as my niece and nephews absolutely love it.Products like this allow children to be creative which is really important and also allows them to have a lot of fun at the same time. It’s a big case with handles so it is easy to carry and provides many tools and accessories to keep the kids entertained for hours!Highly recommended and great quality product.

Act your shoe size and not your age
As a child I always wanted a spectrograph set after having a go with a relative's. My parents could not afford it. So now an adult and a good bit older. I bought my self this set. My only down side, as with everyone else, is the pins and board used in the older version. They have now been replaced with white/blue tack. Not as good. I have still given this 5star rating, as after all its a spectrograph. It's up to your self to find the pins/board if you feel the 'tack' is not substantial. I'm a bit rusty at using it, however I feel just as thrilled at seeing the patterns emerge. Enjoy this and be a child again

Great retro toy let down by badly designed carry case.
This brings back memories. The blue tac stuff that comes with it is essential to hold the outer wheel in place although you also have to use your non-writing hand to more fully secure the outer wheel. This can be tricky for younger kids. The real frustration is the carrying case - as other people have mentioned. The plastic wheel housings are too small, this puts pressure on the wheels, causing them to warp, which makes drawing more tricky than it ought to be. My recommendation is to throw the carry case away, so that no further damage occurs to the wheels. This is such a basic design fault in an otherwise fab craft toy. And it is annoying because I imagine the case is the biggest element of the cost. Eeeee by 'eck, they don't make things like they used to do.

The one to buy
I bought this set on the back of someone else’s review and I’m so glad I did as I love it. I bought it as a creative tool for making cards and artwork, however it would be equally as good for a child to explore as well. I loved Spirograph as a child, now the child in me is loving it as an adult too!

Fun for 5-year-old or older.
My 5-year-old granddaughter had never seen one and was not excited at first. When she learned to use it she did not stop creating and insisted on showing me how to make my own creations. It was fun!
