For its cheap price, you receive a lot. All of the classic Tom and Jerry shorts are here from 1940-1964 I think.

I bought this set after I introduced my 4 year old son to Tom and Jerry on YouTube. On there, the best quality videos were just compilations on the Warner channel. It did my head in and I had to explain to my son that when I was a kid, we saw the whole cartoon and not just clips. The cartoons are great and my 4 year old loves them. He laughs big belly laughs at these classics. They are not properly remastered like the ones on the Warner YouTube channel clips though but they are still the best quality I have seen compared to anywhere else. The discs are double-sided. I have never seen DVDs like that before so I initially thought that the first 4 discs were missing the picture. And that some of the episodes were missing. Silly me. They are all there. The early ones, the best ones by Hannah-Barbera and Fred Quimby and also the later 60s Chuck Jones ones which I disliked but my son laughs loudest at! As far as I can tell, these cartoons are as originally shown and include the house keeper that frequently battered poor ‘Thomas’. As we know these cartoons were of their time and the Warner compilations on YouTube seem to have excluded her and other elements. I’m glad she’s in as she is part of the show. Some sequences in the cartoons probably would not get broadcast these days so it’s a good way of seeing them in their entirety. The set loses a star simply because the box broke really quickly and easily in the place where you open the box. And as you know with a 4 year old, you are going to get asked “can I have the one where...” so the box is opened and closed often. I recommend the set to anyone who loved Tom and Jerry when they were younger and if you want to show them to your own children.

First, to clear up any confusion, this set consists of the equivalent of 12 DVDs, which are recorded onto 7 discs, 5 of which are double-sided. That means that you get 14 hours and 48 minutes worth of cartoons or, to put it another way, a grand total of 159 of them. These are the originals, before they were made on a production line for television. In other words they are well-drawn, well-scripted and - most importantly - actually funny. My grandson loves them and, I must confess, so do I. LATER: Having now had chance to watch them all, we found volume 10 to be absolute drivel. Whoever was responsible had no idea of slapstick humour, none whatsoever about scripting, nor of appropriate music. All the episodes were atrocious. Volumes 11 and 12 are rather better, and certainly watchable, although not quite up to the standard of volumes 1-9. Still, that gives nine volumes directed by the great Fred Quimby and so makes the set a good buy by anyone's standards, even with the lesser stuff at the end.

Good quality product

I've always loved Tom and Jerry and watched it as a child. I was excited to find the complete volumes and my son loves them as well. What I don't like are the way some of the volumes of the DVD's are not labelled up properly. I've never liked the Chuck Jones era of Tom and Jerry and this has been included on the DVDs. ....(The characters underwent a slight change of appearance: Tom was given thicker eyebrows (resembling Jones' Grinch, Count Blood Count) or Wile E Coyote, a less complex look (including the color of his fur becoming gray), sharper ears, longer tail and furrier cheeks (resembling Jones' Claude Cat or Sylvester), while Jerry was given larger eyes and ears, a lighter brown color, and a sweeter, Porky Pig-like expression.) Guess what folks - my little one shares the same feelings. After watching the earlier ears, he didn't like the Chuck Jones Dvds so I guess the Chuck Jones era was the beginning of the downfall of the Tom and Jerry and hence the classic and earlier Hanna Barbera era's are the ones to stick to if you really want those classic laughs that you grew up with.

Many people write negative reviews on this product for either the region 2 lock or for the missing two episodes. However this is the most complete dvd collection you will find, for the most reasonable price. Just make absolute certain you have either a region free, region 2, or changeable-region player with which to play them (typically dvd drives can change regions a limited number of times, or if you have a gaming console which can play dvds, check to see if you can change the region). If you wish to find the two missing episodes, their names are “Million Dollar Cat” and “Busy Buddies”. But other than that I love the series and the quality of everything has been more than good enough for me.

I was very excited to have these for my children. Unfortunately, not even one DVD worked. The seller is from England and told me that I should change my regional settings for my DVD player. There is no regional setting on my player though. I tried my comptroller but the DVDs did not work there either. It’s a sham product. Please don’t buy.
