SmallRig Microphone Shock-mount, good mount at low price
They may be cheaper shock-mounts than this one, so why pay the extra?. When you start using microphones that cost hundreds of pounds, you want to know that they are secure and not likely to take a fall, also higher quality mics tend to be heavier and need stronger elastic support. The SmallRig ticks both boxes and the plastic is much higher quality than similar mounts, but trust me, for less than £10 this is a good quality support that feels like it is going to last, and also has a tight grip on the microphone, I also like the hand tightening knob at the side for angle adjustment. Not all pencil mics come with shock-mounts, but it does make a big difference isolating the microphone from mechanical shocks whether mounted on a mic stand or it’s part of your camera rig, so it’s worth it’s weight in gold by giving you cleaner recordings, also I see no reason why it can’t be used in a live performance as these mic shock-mounts are very compact in size, a good feature is the hand tightening knob at the side for angle adjustment. The shock-mount comes with spare elastics and has both 5/8” and 3/8” threads (with a plastic cold shoe mount), but not the ¼” that is commonly used on camera systems, but you can get adapters if that is your only means of mounting. If your stands have the larger 5/8” thread, I always recommend using this as not only is it a more secure fit but the smaller 3/8” along with slim locking nut either stay loose or can become stuck and difficult to remove, I use 2 compact plumbers pipe wrenches to loosen any nuts that become stuck. Pros; Feels well made and durable Has a side knob tension adjuster for angle Elastic grips the mic tight and comes with 2 extra ones Compact for a shock-mount, so could even be used live Brass 5/8” thread Metal 3/8” thread and cold shoe mount Cons; On 1st use the 3/8” thread did get stuck and needed a wrench to release it (a common problem with this thread size) As yet I have only done a very basic test, but in the near future I will update this review as I will be doing extensive testing of all my mics and their supports.

Perfect for the MKE 600
I ordered this primarily to replace the mount that came included with my Sennheiser MKE 600. It's an excellent microphone for the money, but the default mount is rather poor in my opinion, and this one is far better for handling and performance at a very low price. It fits perfectly with a good grip and is so easy to use. For the most part, I use it mounted directly on my S5IIX, but it comes with an adapter for boom usage. A brilliant piece of kit at a bargain price that works with a number of mics.

An amazingly simple design that really works
I was looking for a reasonable priced, well-made microphone holder and this SMALLRIG Shock Mount caught my eye. I am using this with my shotgun mic that I use with my JVC camcorder and it does the job well - amazing to think its basically four ‘O’ rings criss-crossed in a plastic tube/cage but it does work as its so, so simple! As well as the holder you get a spare set of ‘O’ rings but assuming you wanted any more replacements, although I think these should last quite a while, they would be quite easy to obtain easy enough. In use this really does work well plus the base of the cold shoe mount has a standard 3/8 thread - see photos - so quite handy if required to be mounted on a stand or a boom arm plus can be used with a 3/8 to 1/4 adaptor. I can’t think of anything negative to say about this mount as it does the job as required plus is reasonably priced

Good general purpose mount but does not include tripod adapter
This is a small unit, but still large enough for most hand-held microphones. The internal diameter of the rings is 44mm at the front but only 39mm at the rear. This means it is just wide enough to hold the popular Zoom H1 recorder, but you need to centre it properly to ensure the unit isn't touching the edges of the shock mount. The package also includes a spare set of the rubber o-rings. A hotshoe adapter is included, making it useful for quickly mounting on top of a camera for fieldwork. The unit has a 5/8 inch thread and the hotshoe adapter also steps it down to 3/8 inch, so it should fit most stage microphone stands. However, if you want to mount it on a photography tripod, you will need to purchase a 5/8 to 1/4 stepdown adapter. How effective is it? I tested it with two mics on a T bar on a tripod, one in the shock mount, one mounted directly and gave the tripod legs some knocks. This was a pretty extreme test. As you can see from the attached waveform, whilst it didn't eliminate the shock noise entirely, it did greatly reduce the spikes, brought it down to a much more manageable level. For its small size and portability, it gives good results.

Light, solid and easy to use
Smallrig always do the best stuff. Solid mic holder, really easy to use. Microphone sits comfortably but firmly in the holder with plenty of grip. It's light too so doesn't add much weight to the overall boom weight

Will accept a wide variety of different diameter microphones
This low cost shock mount does a reasonable job of ensuring that your microphone doesn’t pick up extraneous sounds caused by movement etc. Whilst it can’t eliminate those sounds completely it does reduce them to an acceptable degree. Made from a durable plastic the shock mount comes with some spare 'O' rings. It’s great VFM and reasonably compact. Recommended! 👍
