VideoMicro II Ultra-Compact On-Camera Shotgun Microphone for Recording Audio with a Camera or Mobile Device

I recently wanted to purchase an external mic for my camera and spent a fair amount of time researching various options. I decided on this model for a couple of reasons. Firstly it is lightweight and small which is important for me as I sometimes mount my camera on a gimbal so need a mic with a low profile and ideally a low weight. This fits the bill on both accounts and doesn't cause any issues with snagging when fitted on a Sony ZV-E10 II mounted on a DJI RS 4 Mini The second reason is that Rode are one of the best-known manufacturers of microphones and have a reputation for quality. This model doesn't disappoint and gives excellent sound quality, noticeably better than the internal mic on the camera. Despite the light weight, the mic doesn't flop around as much as the previous version did - the design of the mount has been updated and this is an obvious improvement over the original. I also own the older version and the mic would flop down in use - this one is a lot more solid. The mic comes with a foam pop filter which is easy to fit, plus a furry "dead cat" filter. The mount fits to any camera hot shoe as well as a standard cold shoe mount on external brackets etc... The supplied cables give you the option to plug into both TRS and TRRS devices. Often the cables are a bit of an after-thought, however the ones supplied with this mic are perfect for on camera use, being short and very flexible. This particular mic isn't powered, so there's no need to fit a battery - this helps keep the size and weight down too. Overall, I've been very pleased with this - it's a great quality mic for the price and a good way to improve the sound quality of your videos without adding to the size and weight of your camera. It's easy to spend a fair bit more than this, but so far I've not felt that I'm missing out on any of the features of the more expensive mics.

I video using an iPhone and wanted to produce a better sound quality than the built in mic achieves. I must say I’m a bit disappointed that whilst I guess it might produce better quality sound, the volume is really quiet and I’ve had to figure out ways to get it really close to my mouth and increase the volume in post production. I should say that this is primarily designed for use on a camera and I also use an extender cable to get it closer to my mouth.

Initially thought this was the more larger Shotgun mic, so do be careful with the wording. Besides that, the audio quality is fantastic for the price, it picks up everything in front and around as it should, and I never seem to have any issue with the microphone.

While this mic does sound good it can and does distort the mic input on the Sony ZV1, Sony AX100 and also the Sony A7iii. Even if you set the microphone input gain correctly on the above cameras so that you are peaking well below 0db. This microphone will distort the input with loud peak transients. The output of this microphone is far louder than the VideoMicro 1 and can be problematic with certain cameras as it can overload the actual microphone preamp and once the preamp has been overloaded, clipped or distorted, this will distort the recording even if the recording levels are good. It is a good sounding mic and is a great kit but just be careful with loud sounds with certain camera inputs.

Bought this to go with my Sony ZV-E10. Bought it as had a 33% discount offer. You get the microphone, shick mount, two cables, deadcat and foam windscreen. Tried it with Sony ZV-E10-make sure you connect it to the microphone and not headphone port. The quality of sound is much better than the internal camera microphone. It will be good for vlogging or close by audio work.

This mic is unusable. There is a constant buzzing sound makes this microphone unusable. I tried it with an iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro, Samsung Phone, Laptop and the buzzing sound persisted. I read some posts and watched some YouTube videos saying it is because the cable is un-shielded , but if that is the case, people do not buy a mic expecting to buy a separate shielded cable for it. Since it is less than a month, I will try some cables I have in the house see if they make any difference if not, I am returning this the buzzing sound is really really annoying and makes this unusable.

この価格でカメラ内蔵マイクじゃ納得できないからと外部マイクに頼る製品としては十分すぎる性能でした。素晴らしい。簡単なコンサートの定点カメラで一眼にこれをつけましたが価格帯にしては十分すぎる音質でした。これより良い音を収録しようとするとレコーダー回す方がコスパいいと思います。

La qualità della registrazione con questo microfono è veramente buona, bassissimo rumore di fondo, ampio spettro di frequenze, specialmente sulla voce restituisce fedelmente ogni sfumatura e la gamma bassa, con grande potere di isolamento laterale. Comodissimo da portare in un set da viaggio perché è di misure contenute, con una buona dotazione di antipop e antivento. Come unica accortezza, dato che è veramente microscopico, occorre tenerlo a un metro, un metro e mezzo dal soggetto che parla, magari su un mini cavalletto dedicato e una piccola prolunga, a distanze maggiori perde il suo carattere di direzionalità e sensibilità. Ma viste le dimensioni e il costo, è un comportamento atteso e adeguato.

The RØDE VideoMicro II has been an excellent addition to my video recording setup. Its ultra-compact design and premium build quality immediately stand out when you first handle it.
